THREE

"You look wonderful, Callie," Victoire said, stepping back and examining her work.

It's the night of the ball. Tomorrow they go home.

Callie agreed. She did look good, better than she had for the past month anyway. Of course, she didn't say so.

Her dress was a turquoise color with a beaded belt. The colors of the jewels were the colors Teddy had his hair most often: pink, deep maroon and bright green. Callie hoped Teddy would notice. It was only a cocktail dress, going just above her knees.

Victoire had straightened Callie's hair with a charm, changing her appearance completely from her normal curls.

Callie hadn't realized her hair was so long, going down to her butt. She slipped on the wedges she had gotten, ready to get this night over with.

Victoire was in a pale blue cocktail dress that was completely plain, save for some flowers on the skirt. She had curled her hair with a charm. She, too, slipped on her heels and followed Callie downstairs.

Teddy was down in the common room, hands down in the pockets of his trousers. He was standing with his best friend, Justin. His back had been toward the staircase, but Justin had fallen silent and was gaping at both Callie and Victoire.

Teddy turned slowly, his mouth agape as he looked at the girl he loved.

Callie's heart swelled as she felt his gaze on her. She concentrated on her steps, as she didn't want to get distracted and fall down the stairs.

She followed Victoire to the Great Hall, where they were going to meet Leah.

When they walked in, they gasped. The Great Hall has been transformed into an elegant ballroom. Tapestries that depicted Hogwarts from a distance had been draped around the walls, with a table of snacks and drinks set up along the back wall. There was a DJ, like what muggles have, set up in the front corner. Chairs and round tables were scattered around, leaving some space in front of the DJ for a dance floor. Candles that let off colored light had replaced the normal floating ones.

Victoire spotted Leah sitting at a table in the corner. Leah waved them over.

Callie kept her eyes open, watching every little thing. Her wand was safe, strapped to her right leg where she could easily reach it if anything happened.

James was with Brady in the opposite corner, both watching as well.

Callie watched for Teddy, who was supposed to stay near the door. At least, that's what Victoire had told her.

Teddy arrived a bit later, right before the DJ started playing music.

He and Callie locked eyes. After a moment, he gave her a nod before breaking eye contact.

Callie had to admit, he looked quite handsome in his tux. His hair was its bright turquoise, with his tie matching.

Callie wished they were attending this ball together. She felt a pang of regret.

Callie watched, making sure she recognized everyone. She seen Blake talking to James and another third year girl that she recognized as a Hufflepuff talking to Brady.

She seen a Slytherin girl their age talking to Teddy. She got the urge to punch the girl. Maybe hex her.

"May I have this dance?" came a deep voice from behind Callie.

Startled, Callie turned towards him. She recognized him as a seventh year Ravenclaw named Wesley Wood. He was attractive, with dark hair and dark green eyes, as well as a sharp jawline.

"Sure," she responded, putting her hand in his outstretched one.

He led her to the dance floor, placing his hands on her waist.

"So you and Lupin broke up?"

Callie nodded, her throat tightening.

"I'm sorry."

Callie nodded again, not looking at him.

The doors burst open, sending Teddy into the wall and revealing a man with dark hair and greenish looking skin, surrounded by Death Eaters. Marvello.

Callie sucked in a breath and pulled her wand from the strap, running to Teddy.

Teddy groaned as he tried to stand. Callie ran to him and put her hands on his shoulders.

"Are you alright?" She asked, worried.

His eyes softened and he put his hands on her arms. "I'm fine. Go, protect yourself!"

Callie looked him over. She heard a crash behind her, making her look behind her.

She seen people in black robes and silver masks. Death Eaters.

She stood up and pointed her wand at different Death Eaters, shouting curses as she did so.

"Callie! Get your cousins and go!"

Callie recognized the voice as her dad's. She looked in his direction and seen him, along with her Aunt Elle and Uncle Fred. All of her other aunts and uncles were there as well, wands out and ready to strike.

"No! I'm helping you fight!" She shouted over the noise.

"Expelliarmus!" She cast at a Death Eater that was rushing towards her.

"Get your cousins to safety at least! Please, Callie!" George yelled again, before cursing another Death Eater.

Callie sighed and gave in, rushing off to find James, Victoire, and Brady. She grabbed Blake and other younger students she recognized along the way. She brought them all to the Room of Requirement before going back and saving more of the younger students. She took five trips with any students younger than fifth year.

Once she had gotten them all to safety, she ran back, tossing her wedges off on her way back.

Her feet slapped on the stone floor as she ran, praying that Teddy and her family were fine.

Elle and Fred were back to back, walking in circles as they dueled with their own Death Eaters.

"Reminds you of when we were young, doesn't it?" Elle shouted to Fred.

Fred laughed. "Yeah, it does! Exciting, isn't it?"

"It is!" Elle responded.

Teddy was dueling his own Death Eater, searching the chaos for Marvello as he did so. He needed this to end before Callie got hurt.

Harry was dueling Lucius Malfoy. "How'd you get out of Azkaban?" Harry yelled.

Lucius laughed evilly. "As if I would tell you!"

Harry's eyes darkened and he started casting curses more earnestly.

Ginny was dueling a masked Death Eater, whom she was able to defeat easily. This was clearly a novice.

Ginny watched triumphantly as their body fell to the floor. It wasn't long, however, before another Death Eater came along.

Bill and Fleur were fighting one Death Eater together. This Death Eater was powerful, clearly an older one.

Percy and Audrey were dueling some Death Eaters as they tried to come in the doors to join the fight.

Molly and Arthur had stayed behind to watch all of the young kids at the Burrow, much to their displeasure.

Draco and Sammy were dueling a Death Eater each. They backed the Death Eaters out of the door.

Charlie had brought a young dragon, who was waiting outside, throwing fire at incoming Death Eaters.

Ron and Hermione were near Harry, throwing curses at Lucius's back in the hopes of catching him off guard.

Callie found Teddy and started helping him fight his own Death Eater.

"You don't listen, do you?" He yelled over all the noise.

"Never!" She shouted back.

Teddy laughed, distracting Callie. It had been so long since she had heard him laugh. She loved his laugh. She looked at him, giving her Death Eater time to throw a poisoned knife into her stomach. She seen his hood come down, an evil grin on his face. Marvello.

Callie gasped, bending over and clutching her stomach. She went down on her knees before reaching down and pulling the knife out. She knew enough to get the poisoned blade out of her.

Teddy seen this and cast a powerful curse, sending the Death Eater to the wall, where he hit his head and slumped over, unconscious.

"CALLIE!" He shouted, rushing over and getting on his knees beside her.

Callie was gasping, the poison already entering her bloodstream. She did her best to keep pressure on the wound to minimize blood loss.

"No, you can't die on me! Callie Elizabeth, you stay with me! You hear me? I love you, you idiot! Why'd you come back for me?" He babbled in anguish. He'd never felt such fear bleed into his bones.

Callie kept her eyes on his, unable to speak through the pain.

McGonagall stormed in, casting a spell so powerful that it knocked every Death Eater away. Marvello had already fled.
