EIGHT
"Mum, is Victoire going to be at Diagon Alley?" Brady asked as he came out of his room, Ben following slowly.
Pitter was currently following Elle around in the kitchen, his knub of a tail going crazy.
"I don't know, love," Elle replied, "Can you take Ben and Pitter out for me?" she continued, rummaging through the drawers.
Brady nodded. "C'mon, Ben, Pitter!"
Pitter raced to the door, while Ben picked up his pace slightly.
Brady opened the door and they walked out, the door slamming shut behind them, blowing some hot August air into the cottage.
"Fred, do you know what I did with the money I put back for school supply shopping?" Elle called out through the hole in the wall that let out into the dining room, a breakfast bar just below it.
"The third drawer from the right by the sink, love!" Fred called out from the living room, where he and Dylan were watching some muggle TV before they went to Diagon Alley.
Sure enough, there was the blue velvet pouch filled with galleons, sickles, and knuts.
Elle breathed a sigh of relief and put it in her purse. "Reese, Josie! Are you girls ready?"
She knew the boys were already ready, since Brady was eager to get the supplies he needed for his fourth year at Hogwarts. Dylan was his father's son, so he simply puts on his clothes and he's ready. The kid probably wouldn't even have to brush his hair! Fred and Dylan were blessed with good hair genes, much to Elle and Reese's displeasure.
Brady brought Ben and Pitter back in and met his mum at the fireplace.
Elle was relieved to find all four of her children, as well as her husband at the fireplace for once. Every single year since Brady's first year, it'd been a battle to get them all to the fireplace.
"Alright, Brady you can go on your own. Dylan, you go with your father. Girls, you're with me. Fred, you go first," Elle ordered, looking around to make sure everyone had proper clothing on.
Fred and Dylan stepped into the fireplace. Fred threw down the familiar green powder, making everyone cough slightly as he called out, "Diagon Alley!"
Brady was next. He did the same thing, spinning and spinning in the fireplace until he too vanished.
The girls stepped in last. Elle threw down the powder and stated clearly, "Diagon Alley!"
The family all landed in the right fireplace in The Leaky Cauldron.
Fred led his family out through the throngs of families who were eating lunch, taking a break from their hard day of back-to-school shopping.
Elle and Brady split away from the others, as Fred always took Dylan, Reese, and Josie to the pet shop to look at the magical creatures.
Brady begged his mother for a new broom. He only got it on the condition that he would actually try out for the team this year. Every year before he had chickened out at the last minute, much to the disappointment of Fred.
The family owl, Zuko, was getting too old to keep making trips from Hogwarts to the cottage, so Elle also promised him a new owl.
They quickly got his textbooks and new robes, their arms full as Brady pulled his mother to the pet shop.
Elle's jaw dropped when she seen her husband sitting beside a very happy looking Reese, who was holding a golden kitten with yellow eyes.
"Leave your things with your father and head on inside to pick out your new owl," Elle told Brady through gritted teeth.
"Frederick," she muttered, glaring at him.
He got up and came over to her. "You should've seen her face," he started, ignoring Elle's curious expression.
"We didn't talk about that! We only talked about Brady's new owl!" She hissed.
"You're right. I'm sorry," Fred caved. Over fifteen years of marriage, he quickly learned not to argue with her. He also knew that she wouldn't be mad for long; animals held a special spot in her heart.
"What's it's name?" Elle sighed, already calming down.
"It's a girl named Chloe Ray."
Elle smiled at her daughter's use of her middle name. "You are such a softie! Your daughters have you wrapped around their little fingers!"
Fred chuckled and shrugged.
Elle went into the shop, looking for Brady. Brady was standing in front of a cage with a barn owl in it. She nodded and he brought the cage up to the counter.
The tall, lanky wizard smiled and told Brady, "Good choice, lad. She's a young barn owl named Juliet."
"Shakespeare?" Brady inquired. What? His mother is Elle Weasley and you expected him not to be educated in muggle literature?
The man laughed loudly, startling Brady slightly. "You're right, lad! Bright boy, you have miss!"
Elle smiled brightly. "Thank you, sir. How much'll the owl be?"
"She's on the house. A good owl like this needs a good home. One with a boy who knows Shakespeare," he responded, winking at Brady.
Elle's jaw dropped. "Are you sure?"
The man smiled brightly, showing some missing teeth. "Of course!"
"Thank you!" Brady said brightly, staring at his new owl with glee.
"Thank you so much, sir," Elle told him sincerely. She dropped a couple of galleons on the counter before she followed Brady out.
"Ice cream?" Fred suggested.
"Yes!" chorused the kids, who started running to Florean Fortescue's Ice Cream Parlour.
Fred grabbed Elle's hand and they followed their children, glad that they weren't worried about the Third Wizarding War quite yet.
The kids got their ice cream and picked out a booth near the window, with Fred and Elle not behind with their own ice creams.
Fred dabbed some ice cream onto Elle's nose, making her smear it all over his cheek.
The kids laughed hysterically at their parents. The kids would have done the same to each other, but they had already devoured their own ice cream.
Elle laughed and grabbed a napkin to clean off her nose and Fred's cheek. They finished their ice cream before heading back to The Leaky Cauldron just as the sun was setting.
Brady was carrying Juliet around happily, while Fred had his arms full with potion ingredients, textbooks, and robes.
The family Flooed home, Brady immediately going to his room and packing away his things, though he's not leaving for Hogwarts until the end of the month.
