Second Chapter
- Wakey, wakey!
Isobel was shaking by the shoulder her sleeping friend, who was refusing to return from dreamland. She couldn't imagen having to wake Atara every day to at least have a little breakfast before running to class.
Hearing Jason sniggering, she looked up at him.
- Shouldn't you help me wake her up?
- And may I remind you that you're a witch who can use magic?
Probed Jason at the Hufflepuff girl's question.
- You're right. Aguamenti!
Exclaimed Isobel, pointing her poplar wood wand at Atara. A little spurt of water came out of the wand, enough to wet the Ravenclaw auburn curly haired girl.
- I'm awake! I'm awake!
Cried out Atara, putting herself in a sitting position.
- Good, because you were snoring noisily.
Remarked Jason chuckling.
- You said something merely funny! See, Isobel, we teach him well.
Exclaimed Atara with a thrilled voice, followed by a loudly yawn.
- I am funny!
Protested the Hufflepuff, indignation in his voice.
- Sure Jason, keep believing.
- If you little kids would stop bickering, I would remind you to look out of the window.
Said Isobel, the two followed her suggestion and looked out of the window.
The sky was of a deep blue, similar to black, the stars sparkled as diamonds. Nevertheless, that wasn't the real view that took Atara's breath away. A gigantic castle stood out in the sky, with all its windows lit, with its reflection shimmering as the waves moved on the Black Lake.
- During the summer, I always forget how beautiful and magical Hogwarts is.
Whispered Isobel, as if afraid of ruining the enchantment that had fell in the compartment. The three friends remained in the comfortable silence as the Hogwarts Express arrived at the Hogsmeade station.
Walking down the row of compartments, in which students began to file out vociferously out, Jason murmured to his two best friends.
- Last year I found myself in a group of Fist Years that were carrying me to the boat. This time we will stick together, I don't want to find myself soaked wet again.
As they stepped out in the open station, Atara and Isobel were glad that Jason had forced them with a glare to bring their scarfs, the wind was blowing and taking coldness from the north. The three friends found a carriage without much searching, and climbed in, finding repair from the wind.
- Jason, are you okay?
Asked Isobel, when they were all safely inside. At that question the Hufflepuff black haired boy furrowed his eyebrows.
- Yes, why?
At Jason's response, Atara took the moment to erupt and say.
- Because you're so light, the wind was whisking you away!
The two girls started giggling, under the annoyed glare of the scrawny black haired Hufflepuff, who waited the two to finish giggling before responding. However, before he could open his mouth a head popped from the carriage door. It was a girl, probably a First Year seen she small stature, with crispy blonde hair and brown eyes.
Atara and Isobel stopped abruptly their laugh, and moved their eyes towards the girl.
- Um... sorry to disturb, but where should first years go?
When she talked, the initial thing you noticed was her strangely low voice for an eleven year old.
- You didn't disturb us. In any case, you have to follow Hagrid, the big man who's shouting.
Replied smiling kindly Isobel, the type of smile she used to reassure people.
-Oh, thank you! I thought it was another bigger year that was pranking me. I guess I have to go, I hope I can see you again.
With those words, the First Year hopped away, disappearing in the mass of students that were still crowding around the many carriages.
- Do we really need to prank her? I mean, it seems that Roxanne and Michael are going to prank her all year, if not forever.
Commented Jason, while the carriages began their slow drive towards the castle.
- Dear Jason, when I say 'Let's prank the First Years!' I say lets prank all first years. Not just Gryffindors and Slytherins. Everyone!
Retorted Atara, using her hands animatedly around to show what she meant.
- Isn't what you do every year, prank mostly Gryffindors and Slytherins?
Inquired Isobel, narrowing her eyebrow.
- Have you seen their faces when they get mad? It's just, so hilarious! Even if I decided that maybe this year we could... restrain ourselves from pranking First Years, they're just eleven!
Said Atara, for then chuckling at a mental image of a Slytherin that had her face transfigured into a golden mane with her red brilliant robes.
- You've got a point, for each of your statements. Nevertheless, this year lets try to prank even the other Houses.
Mumbled Jason, as if he didn't want to be heard. Unfortunately for him, Isobel had a great hearing, and lighted up at his words.
- Bloody hell! It's a great idea Jas! This year we're going to prank everyone, no matter in what year, House they're in, not even if they're the son of Harry Potter!
Exclaimed delighted Isobel, with her brilliant green eyes shining. Her eyes remained gleaming a little too long at Atara who was laughing at Jason's flustered face. However, before the Ravenclaw could turn and question her best friend's attitude, Jason came at the rescue.
Kind of.
- Look! We arrived!
Atara narrowed her eyebrows, surprised at Jason instant humour change. Even if thinking there was something under, she looked out of the carriage. The castle was many meters away, but still the carriages in front had already come to a halt and students had begun pouring out and into Hogwarts.
As they stopped before the schools entrance, and near all the other vehicles, Atara climbed down and began walking to the castle's enormous doors without waiting the two Hufflepuffs to scramble down the carriages.
- Wait for us!
Shouted the black haired Hufflepuff, as he climbed down and began shuffling to Atara's moving figure. As Isobel and Jason arrived at the auburn curly haired Ravenclaw side, she exclaimed overjoyed.
- We're just a Sorting and a speech away from food. Let's go!
As the three entered with the flow of students into the Great Hall, remaining astound. There wasn't anything special about the Great Hall that evening, no flying bats, levitating pumpkins and pink clouds in the sky, it was the old Great Hall with levitating candles and the stars shining from the roof.
As the Trio sat at their respective tables, Atara at the Ravenclaw table near the Slytherins and the Hufflepuff table, where Isobel and Jason where seated.
- I hope Peeves is prepared to welcome the new students.
Whispered under her breath Atara, grinning from the blue-bronze table and doing a thumbs up at Isobel.
Atara wasn't the only one that waited impatiently for the First Years to burst from the Great Halls doors, in fact all the room was inpatient to start a new year at Hogwarts. Besides maybe not only for the food.
