027. by the light of dawn

The past 24 hours had been nothing short of chaotic.

Currently, Madeline and Clary were in the Ops centre, glancing at Jace as his eyes were fixated on the Soul Sword. "Jace... Jace no!" Madi quickly called out, before she started rushing towards him.

Jace glanced at the ravenette, with a heartbroken expression before he said, "I love you, Madeline Lightwood." And then he took no time to reach out and clasp his hand around the sword, before yanking it out.

"No!!!" Madi cried out, with all of the air in her lungs, before she fell to her knees. No matter how much she wanted to, she couldn't tear her eyes away from Jace. A bolt of electricity fired through Jace, making him fall and drop the sword.

"Why didn't that destroy the Sword?" Clary asked, with surprise, but relief that Jace wasn't dead. "I don't know." Simon insisted.

Madi rushed towards Jace and threw her arms around him, but the boy just continued to stare into the distance, wondering how he had done that. The Lightwood pulled away, and cradled Jace's face in her hands. "Jace, are you okay?" She asked, but he couldn't seem to find an answer.

"You're nothing if not predictable, son."

The couple turn around, as they watch Valentine pick up the sword. Meanwhile, the army of seelies, vampires and werewolves rush into the room, prepared to attack.

Valentine raised the sword, and a light ignited before all of the Downworlders within these walls screamed in pain, then they all died.

"Oh, my God." Madi blurted, as she lifted a hand to cover her mouth.

Clary was frozen in shock, before she noticed that Simon was alive. "Simon, you're okay!" She blurted, feeling relieved. "How? Every other Downworlder in here, they're... They're all dead." The Lewis confessed.

"I don't know. I just pray the adamas in the walls contained the blast." Clary replied, before her blood went cold. "Where's Malia?!" She suddenly asked, realising that she hadn't heard from the younger Bane in quite a while.

"Malia wasn't in here, was she?!" The orange haired girl asked, before she looked around frantically. Madeline got back to her feet, before she wiped a tear from her eye. "Malia definitely makes her presence known. I'm certain she wasn't in here." The Lightwood insisted.

Clary nodded, before she turned on her heels and raced away, to find the warlock she loved.

"I don't understand. How did I activate the Sword?" Jace asked, his breathing still unsteady. "Only someone with pure angel blood could have done it.... You don't have demon blood, Jace!" Madeline realised.

Malia couldn't believe what she'd seen. The Soul sword had been activated, but the energy didn't leave the walls of the Institute.

The warlock's skin crawled at the thought of what it looked like inside... bodies were probably piled everywhere.

The Bane felt bile rise up in her throat, as she thought about Clary. Did Valentine have her? Is she okay?

"Malia?"

The girl spun around, facing her older brother. "I need to make sure that Clary is okay." She suddenly said, her voice filled with desperation. "I... I don't think I.... I can't..." Malia stammered, before Magnus placed his hands on her shoulders, "Hey... hey...." He said, trying to calm her.

"Clary needs to be okay... She's helped me so much and... there's so much that I haven't said to her, Mags." The younger Bane admitted. "She means so much to me."

Magnus nodded, "Okay, but be careful. You're going to see a lot of things in there that are awful." He admitted, not wanting to go into the Institute himself. Malia weakly smiled, "I'm sure it's nothing I haven't seen before." She admitted darkly, as she had seen a lot of deceased before, in Edom while she lived with her father.

"Just..." Magnus trailed off suddenly before he smiled weakly, realising that either of them could have died today, and they were so lucky to both be alive. "I love you." The older Bane smiled. Malia smiled back, "I love you too."

"Magnus, Malia!"

The Bane siblings turned around, to see Alec racing down the stairs, towards the duo. The Lightwood rushed into Magnus' arms, as the pair held eachother tightly, relieved one another were alive. Malia couldn't help but to smile, before she heard her own name getting called.

"Malia! Oh thank god!"

The ravenette spun back around, to see Isabelle racing down the stairs, towards her. The taller girl threw her arms around the warlock, holding her tightly. "I'm so glad you're okay... I was so worried." Isabelle confessed, as Malia hugged her best friend back.

"I don't know what I'd do without you, Mals. You're my best friend— my person!" Isabelle choked out, as Malia felt tears prick the corner of her eyes. "You're my person too, Izzy." She said back softly, holding her best friend for a moment longer.

The nephilim and the warlock separated, as Clary came racing over to them. "Malia!" Clary called out, looking worn out from the days events, but not badly injured. That made Malia settle a bit.

"Hey!" Malia greeted, relief visible in her tone, before Clary just about bowled the girl over trying to hug her. Malia couldn't help but to giggle, before she hugged the Fray back. Isabelle smiled at the girls, before she turned around to leave them alone.

The pair broke apart, but seemed to keep some sort of embrace. "You're okay, thank the angel— I mean I knew you'd be okay, you're Malia freaking Bane but..." Clary stopped rambling, as she noticed Malia was looking at her intently, and lovingly.

Clary felt nerves fill her, and she tried to push it aside so she could do what she had wanted to for so long. Barley a moment later the shadowhunter cradled Malia's face in her hands, before she kissed her gently.

Malia's eyes fluttered shut, as she kissed the Fray back. The warlock's hands found their way around Clary's waist, as Clary kept Malia's face gently in her hands. Unaware to either of them, sparks of magic circled them.

The girls broke apart, but gazed into eachother's eyes, before Clary let out a nervous giggle. "Wow... I finally did that." She blurted, "I've wanted to kiss you again for so long." Malia lifted one of her hands to caress Clary's cheek. "Clary..." She trailed off, a tone of sadness in her voice.

"No." Clary began. "No please don't tell me that you're cursed and you shouldn't fall in love with anybody because that isn't true. Malia, I really like you a lot... and I want to prove to you that you aren't cursed at all." The Fray rambled.

Malia didn't know what to say, she was taken back by Clarissa's words. "I want this... I want you." Clary insisted, before Malia had a teary smile. "I want this too Clary, I knew that from the very moment I met you." She confessed, with a giggle.

Clary smiled back brightly, before the pair shared another kiss. The Bane couldn't help but to smile into the kiss before they broke apart. "Will you... be my girlfriend?" Malia finally asked.

Clary nodded, eagerly, "Yes, by the Angel I have been waiting for this to happen." She responded dramatically, causing the pair to burst out into laughter. Malia and Clary then leant their foreheads together, feeling absolutely ecstatic that this moment had finally come.

AUTHORS NOTE

I regretto inform you guys that this is the final chapter of Cursed.

I really wanted to write this chapter up until the finale episode of Season 3, but unfortunately I've lost a lot of motivation for this fic.

So I decided to leave it with a happy ending, and end it here. I may write an Epilogue though, I haven't decided.

Thank you for supporting this story, Malia has been one of my most favourite OCs to write ❤︎
