006. the truth comes out

Suddenly, Raphael appeared. "Going somewhere?"

"Raphael." Camille spoke, as the other vampire glared at her. "You should have stayed put." Raphael said as Camille hissed in response. He then looked to Simon, and then Malia "I'm disappointed in you."

Malia scoffed, "Oh haven't I heard that before." She confessed sarcastically, not even remotely offended. "I– I guess it's too late to put her back in the box?" Simon asked, referring to Camille.

"I'm afraid so. Our alliance is finished. The Accords may prohibit killing mundanes, but they say nothing about sunburned vampires." Raphael said as he and his group walk towards Malia, Clary, Simon and Camille, driving them towards the windows. "Simon's betrayed us, just as Camille did. They deserve the same fate. Adios."

The vamps run towards the trio just as the wall breaks. Sunlight shines in, separating the two groups. Izzy comes through the hole in the wall. "Seriously, guys?" Izzy asked before she walked further in and turned to Raphael. "Typical vampire, always underestimating a Shadowhunter. Adios."

Now walking to Camille's apartment, Clary piped up. "Izzy, that was pretty badass!" Isabelle smiled, "I know." She grinned. "Oh cmon, I was just about to portal us out of there." Malia spoke up, as Clary and Isabelle looked at her, not really believing her. "I just didn't want to leave Izzy behind." The Bane concluded quickly.

"I think I'd have been better off just staying in the coffin... I'm already sick of listening to little Bane's voice." Camille stated, as Malia frowned. "You think I enjoy your company? Satan incarnate—" The warlock spat.

"But you didn't, Camille. We got you out." Clary quickly said. "Technically, I got you out." Isabelle grinned, as Malia rolled her eyes playfully, "Alright, Ms Lightwood saved the day." She declared, mockingly.

"Tell us where the book is." Clary ordered as Camille responded with, "Patience, my dear–"

"Enough! Just because we got you out doesn't mean I won't kill you right here." The Fray yelled, visibly annoyed. "Oh please, if anybody here is going to have the pleasure of killing Camille, it will be me." Malia insisted, as her eyes were now their yellow cat like pupils.

Camille ignored both of the girls, before she looked to Simon. "There's still one more thing I require of, um..."

"Simon."

"A Writ of Transmutation." Camille concluded. "What the hell is that?" Simon and Clary asked. "A document stating you asked her to turn you into a vampire." Malia answered, dryly. "Signed and sealed in your blood, of course." Camille chirped. "Haven't you had enough of my blood?" Simon asked. "Never. And I definitely don't want the Clave to falsely accuse me of killing mundanes."

"You want Simon to pardon you? No way." Clary hissed, before stepping closer to Camille with her blade facing her. "You killed Simon. The least we could do is return the favor."

"And yet, the second I go up in smoke, so does any hope of you finding your precious book." Camille simply responded.

Malia felt rage flow through her, as she glared at Camille. She hated her, absolutely despised her... right now she wanted to open a portal and throw her into limbo.

The Bane broke out of her trance, as she found a hand grabbing hers. It belonged to Isabelle. Malia's now brown eyes, met Isabelle's and the girl gave her a sympathetic smile. They needed this book. Punishing Camille was going to have to wait.

"So where do we get this document, huh? I can't imagine you have many friends left." Clary said, as Malia snorted in amusement, suddenly forgetting that she was angry.

"I know a guy." Camille said, before she eyed Malia. Clary, Simon and Isabelle all looked to the Bane, confused, as she just looked at Camille knowingly, with a blank expression.

"If you try anything on my brother I swear—"

"No promises, dear." Camille grinned, as Malia glared again. She opened a portal, and shot Camille one last venomous look, before they all stepped into the portal.

☠︎︎

A portal suddenly opened in the living room, as Malia, Clary, Izzy, Simon and Camille stepped out of it.

Magnus stared at the group in shock, before Malia quickly blurted, "Mags, I'm sorry—"

"So, Magnus, how long has it been? One hundred? One hundred fifty years?" Camille spoke up, her voice sounding sickly sweet. "One hundred and thirty-eight. Oddly, I haven't missed you." Magnus replied as Camille just smirked, "Of course you have, my love."

"I need a drink." Malia decided, as she was already fed up from dealing with Camille. She went to walk into the kitchen to raid Magnus' alcohol but Clary quickly reached out and grabbed her wrist, stopping her. The Fray looked back to Camille and Magnus. "All right, you two can catch up later. Right now, we need to find the Book of the White."

"And you will, but not without payment." Camille said before she looked to Magnus, "You of all people should understand that." Magnus sighed, "Of course. And what is it you require?" He asked. "A clean slate."

"She wants a Writ of Turning-Me-Into-A-Vampire." Simon explained. "And we need you to draft it." Clary added.

"Hmm. I thought I was done with you." Magnus said, looking at Camille in disgust. "We'll never be done with each other." Camille responded, as Malia rolled her eyes.

Isabelle looked to Clary and Malia before she said, "I'm gonna call for backup."

Once Isabelle left, Clary turned to Simon. "Can I talk to you for a minute?" She asked. Simon nodded, and they quickly left to another room to converse privately.

Moments later, Magnus is creating the Writ on a piece of paper, Malia watching as she had never seen this. Camille approached the Bane siblings, "You're still upset by my dalliance with that short-lived Russian?" She asked Magnus.

"Upset? No. I gave up feeling anything for you over a century ago." Magnus said, causing Malia to laugh. "Hm.. even after I helped you through your spiral after your weasely little sister, abandoned you." Camille spoke.

"What?" Malia asked, looking to Camille with confusion. Magnus stayed quiet, making his sister more confused. "I left Earth because I was nothing but a burden to you two.. I went and reunited with my Dad so in hopes of finding a home where I belonged." Malia said, as Magnus gave her a confused look, "A burden? What are you talking about— you were never a burden to me, Malia." He confessed as Malia looked at her brother confused. All the while, Camille stayed quiet.

"That's not what Camille told me." Malia spoke venomously, as her eyes darted to Camille's. Magnus' eyes widened, before he faced his ex in disbelief. "What the hell did you do?" Magnus asked.

Camille shrugged, "What? The only way I could get time alone with you was by sending your pest of a sister to Edom. The only way I could do that is if I made her believe that we both wanted her gone. She was the biggest burden to us and our relationship—"

"How dare you!?" Magnus yelled now. "How dare you come between me and my family!?" Magnus and Camille bickered, as Malia found herself tuning out, as she remembered one of the last conversations she had with Camille before she left for Edom.

"I don't understand.." Malia began, her eyes meeting Camilles. "Everytime I ask Magnus about this.. he insists that I'm not a problem." She said. "That's because he's your big brother, dear. He doesn't want to hurt your little feelings." Camille spoke condescendingly.

Malia shook her head in disbelief, "If Magnus had a problem with me.. he would tell me." She insisted. Camille laughed, loud and manically. "Sweetheart. Magnus' life ended the day you showed up at his door as an orphan. You may not realise, but your existence is burdening him.. he doesn't want to say anything because he doesn't want to deal with your little warlock tantrums. I can't blame him." Camille admitted.

Malia's face fell, as she processed this. "Malia. I love Magnus, so much. Which is why I'm telling you this. I want Magnus to be happy, but he will never be happy for as long as you are apart of his life."

Malia's eyes filled with tears, and she looked up at Camille and Magnus, who were still fighting. The younger Bane glared harshly, before her yellow cat eyes shone. She waved her hands, throwing Camille around the apartment.

"You bitch!" Malia hissed.

Suddenly, the door opened and Izzy, Madi and Alec stood in the doorway, watching as Malia flung Camille around the room before she charged at the vampire. "Well, this is awkward." Magnus confessed as Madi frowned, "What the hell is going on?" She asked.

Alec ignored them and got to the point, "Where's the book?" He asked. "It's complicated." Magnus confessed, as Malia finally stepped back from fighting Camille.

"I hate you so fucking much— if it wasn't for this stupid book you would be dead!" She hissed as Madi blinked in surprise, watching Malia. Isabelle grit her teeth, "Camille must have done something real bad." She said awkwardly.

Camille got to her feet, giving Malia a harsh glare before she turned to Alec. "To answer your question, I have it. Magnus continued, "And she's graciously offered it in exchange for her freedom." Before Malia muttered, "Which she absolutely doesn't deserve."

"We don't negotiate with prisoners." Alec said, before he took a step towards Camille. "Prisoner? I beg to disagree. You see, I'm your only chance at saving the world." Camille began. "You need me."

Camille then turned to her ex, "You certainly have a type, don't you, Magnus? He's cute. Too bad it won't last." Isabelle and Madeline both glared at Camille before Izzy said sternly, "Say that again, you won't last."

"I'd say he's about 20 years from male pattern baldness." Camille said, glancing at Alec. "I'd say you're about 2 seconds away from getting pushed out on the balcony and into the sunlight." Malia piped up coldly. Madi couldn't help but to stifle a giggle at Malia's comment.

"I don't have time for this. Where's Clary?" Alec asked as Magnus pointed to the other room. With that, Alec left.
