Chapter 7 - Cruel Fate
I slowly shook my exhausted body awake. Oh my head... that crash was hard. My whole body felt sore, and I had a headache. Fluttering my eyes open, I saw the grey and cloudy overcast and I smelled a slight off scent. What time was it? I was with my friends last night and--
Wait! My friends!!
I panicked and glanced around constantly with my blonde hair flipping in my face. "Guys?! Taylor or Jason?!"
No words came back. Last night... they... they... were killed. While I felt myself tearing up, I noticed their bodies were not here. They were all right here before, weren't they? I saw them die in front of me. There was no blood on the ground either... as if nothing happened. No smell of rotting or decay... and no sign of Herobrine either. I was beyond confused.
But I started to smell something. Something... off... it threw Me into a coughing fit. The only time I ever coughed like that... was with smoke. I looked around and saw a small pillar of dark grey in the sky. It looked like it was far off, but if i could smell it, it had to be close. I climbed a nearby tree, the tallest I could find to look. But what I saw was horror...
I don't know how, when I was literally hours from home before, but across the horizon, I saw my small town of LochMill. How in the name of Notch was I this close?!? The place I was before was way far off, on the border between the cities and the Unknown Lands. How was I back at home when I was over 2 hours away last night?!
But that's not what was scary. The smoke... my whole town was a blaze in a glowing red orange fire. I held a gape knowing my parents, my other few friends, my neighbors, were all there. The whole thing looked unnatural. The forest cut off at a sharp, un-natural point, turning from a dense forest into a grassy field of flames that was on fire, then was the outer most homes of my town. Like someone picked it up and placed it down.
I had to get home, had to. I needed to make sure the few I loved were ok. I tried to climb down the oak tree, but fell and landed hard on my back. I shook it off and ran, fast as my tired and weak legs could carry me. I just fallowed the pillar of smoke in the sky, and it grew larger and more ominous with every step.
Soon I was rushing though the field of fire, trying to carefully step to not burn my shoes on embers. It was hard to see anything with the thick smoke. It was almost like everything was in a glass dome, and the smoke couldn't escape, only making everything worse as I went though. My lungs pained with the breaths I took, making me have a coughing fit with each breath. I was surprised I was even breathing and collapsed on the ground.
Houses were burned, bodies of strangers discarded, the sounds and feel of hot embers on my face. Difficulty to see, my eyes burned and watered. Oddly no screams in terror however, just the sounds of flames roaring.
Nothing was noticeable. Not one house or body. Everything looked deserted and bodies looked charred. But I noticed one thing... to my right; I herd a building sound like it was about to collapse. Glancing over, I saw a Silver Chicken on a thin pole with 4 other direction arrows. It was a silver weather vane.
"Taylor's house..." I muttered. The building then collapsed, but I knew where it was.
I stepped faster and fast in the direction of his house. I held my shirt over my nose, I ran around the backyard, and nearly died at seeing the sight I did.
All of our parents... Mine, His, Nate's... all of them were together... and dead.
But that's not what was the worst. What was worse... I found Taylor's body... and Nate's... and Monica's... and everyone else's.
All of them were faced onto the ground, looking as if they have died long ago. The clothes were bloodstained, with brownish-red dried liquid. I rushed to Taylor's body and shook it. I shook it violently as salty tears wept down my face. I felt like I couldn't breathe, I felt like I had literally died... I felt like I was watching someone else in my body.
"Taylor... TAYLOR!!! PLEASE HEAR ME!!!"
I screamed loud, but they fell on deft ears, they were all dead. My friends, Family, neighbors... Everyone.
This... who could have done this? Well actually, I know...
The only person who moved my friends bodies into this position to make it hurt worse then it did. The one person who killed them in front of me. The one who has been after me...
Herobrine
Because of him... because of ME... my friends, family, are all dead. I couldn't hold it in, tears burst from my eyes and fell down my face onto the dead body of Taylor. The dark thoughts in my mind, those I had cast aside thinking it was just guilt... they won me over. They took over. I couldn't win this fight.
"Why?! Why do I exist!? I should have killed myself long ago! This wouldn't have ever ha-a-appened!!!"
While hugging Taylor's deceased body tightly, I looked away into the black smoke across the horizon, and saw two white eyes and a white smile from a dark figure. They took their hand with two fingers out, and went across their neck looking at me. A non-verbal way of telling me 'You're dead' before they disappeared into the smoke. Herobrine... He came to watch me cry over my friends, to watch me suffer. And to warn me I will soon be joining them.
It was hard for me to breathe as I was not only inhaling smoke, but my tears filled up everything I could see. I was the reason they were dead! I should have just let those doctors kill me! If I was gone, NONE of this would have ever happened. I tried not to take what they said so long ago to heart, but now it hurts more then anything knowing they were right.
In my sobbing, I decided I couldn't stay here. I had to run. Run far away, and never return. I need to die. Notch may take me, but Herobrine will never!
I don't want to die here though, not next to them.. I had to find a place to end my own life, and make the world better without me. But how? And where?
Well I knew the first answer; How
Sniffling and standing up slowly with shaky legs, I dashed into what was left of Taylor's house, in embers. Though the smoke and rubble, and as a roof almost fell on me, I went to what was the kitchen; to the medicine cabinet.
Though most everything was burnt or close to it, some stuff was spared, and there was one thing I wanted, and I saw it inside intact,
There, was a green/black bottle of a highly effective painkiller. His father had been using it after surgery a few months ago for pain relief, but they didn't get rid of it. It had to be disposed of in a special way which is why it wasn't gone yet. How stupid he was to leave it here and not depose of it. If only a small amount is used, it stops the pain for a good amount of time, But I also knew if too much was used, it would end a life, dull the senses until your heart would stop. This was it, it would make my death quiet and painless. Just the way I want it.
I pocketed the bottle, And ran. Ran as fast and as far as I could, never looking back with tears in my eyes. This was my fate now, I had to die.
I had to hope to take Herobrine with me to the grave.
And even if I didn't...
The world would still be better off without me
Quick note: I'm sorry if this is a touchy subject for some, but one, you read the trigger warnings I hope and it will get worse from here out
I also do want to apologize for so many paragraph brakes also, but it's mostly due to characters talking, especially when there's more then two characters talking. It's just kinda messy if I left all the dialogue in one mess of a paragraph.
And one last apology for if the story doesn't make a ton of sense right now, (Ranger changing mindset so quickly, the presence of Him suddenly appearing without notation) but it will clear up eventually. These first 10 or so chapters are actually way older then the later ones. Originally it WAS only about 10 chapters, but then a creative spark came up and now the story is a HELL of a lot longer then it once was.
My hope is, while these first few chapters are cringe in my opinion and poorly worded and explained, I hope you'll stick around.
Also artwork for the characters will be coming out soon!
