Chapter 3 - In Pain

*bark bark!*

I heard the barks of a tamed wolf above me, but everything was fuzzy and could only see black. I herd voices, but could not make out any words. They all sounded  like white noise. Where was I?  My arm and head felt a little sticky and stiff.

"Wait! Here! Dig here!"

Someone was yelling in a muffled voice, and I managed to make out words. I couldn't feel much, but I did feel something get removed off my left arm. Like dirt... was I buried? What happened last? I was in a cave... did it collapse with me inside it? I couldn't feel my right arm at all. It felt like it was there, but numb to the point I couldn't feel it.

"Alive! Their alive!"

I felt my body be lifted up from what I could only guess was the ground. I had a hard and difficult time breathing. Trying to open my eyes, it failed. I could feel hands going over me, trying to pick me up or check my arm. I couldn't even make out my surroundings or what time of day it was.

"Breathing is shallow! Pulse is dropping! Temperate low!"

"Were loosing her!!"

I started to only hear white noise and foggiest encased my mind...

I felt something wrapped around my wrist, and something poking in my right arm. I tried to open my eyes, but it was hard. I couldn't feel my right arm completely; some parts I could but others I couldn't.  I finally managed to open my eyes and was blinded by a bright light. After shielding my eyes I noticed where I was, in a hospital room. I was still in my clothes from that night, which were oddly clean.

Ok Ranger, think. I remember being in a cave with Taylor's brother and my friends and... wait... what did happen? I couldn't remember everything! Was I drugged? I just can't remember. My whole body felt sore but my wrist especially. Glancing to it, it was covered up completely in a thick bandage and cast. I may have also had a brace on, but I couldn't tell.

The room wasn't too much. I had windows to see I was a couple stories up, as well as a desk/counter top with cabinets, probably holding medical supplies. I also had an IV in my arm delivering fluids.

I heard the turn of a nob, the door nob. It opened and I saw Taylor and my friends burst though with a shocked face that turned to a large smile.
"Ranger Ranger!! Ranger!!" Taylor yelled. I just sat there as He hugged me tight. Why was he acting like hasn't seen me in years?

"What's gotten into you? Ack! Squeezing too hard!"

"Into me?! You're alive!!" He sniffles a little, almost crying in joy.

"Alive? What happened? Did I die?"

"You were found buried under a cave that had gave in that night. We thought you had died... The doctors weren't sure if you would make it." Taylor explained to me. I didn't make sense though.

"Why was I in a cave again? I'm sorry, but I can't remember much."

Taylor glanced to his friends, in confusion. "You don't remember? You summoned... you summoned Him."

"Who's Him?"

"Ya know... Him!" Taylor shuddered.

"I don't want to play the pronoun game with you Tay-"

"Herobrine!! You-summoned-Herobrine-and-He's-somewhere-out-there-now!!" Jake looked at me with a panic in his eyes and he gasped for air. He said it so fast I almost couldn't tell what he said. They all had worry in their eyes.

With a bit of a shocked face, it melted away as I chuckled a little. "Nice joke... but he's just an old story.  Seriously what happened? What type of bad drug trip did I take last night?"

"It was 2 nights ago, and no it wasn't a drug trip. You. Summoned. Herobrine. You just summoned a demon... monster... whatever into our world!" Nathan spoke up. "You've been in here about a day and half now unconscious. They had to stitch up your arm because you slit it and you lost a lot of blood. It's a firkin miracle you didn't bleed out."

I tried to remember that night. I just couldn't. "Wait, you don't believe in the stories, Nate!"

"I didn't... but you can't deny something you've seen with your own two eyes. He's out there, and as real as I am."

"Here. Let me remind you of the Nether you did." Taylor grabbed the remote and turned on the TV on the wall to the news channel.

"Coming at you live from the field, fighting back zombie attacks with hard hitting facts, this is Minecraft news!" The TV yelled.

"Good morning folks and welcome to Minecraft news the most news for your views. I am Adam here currently about 20 miles outside of Ressex at the site of the recent Herobrine summoning. Workers are currently going though the rubble, but so far no sign of the monster nor anything that could have caused it."

"A few survivors from the cave collapse have been found and are in stable condition at the hospital, however 14 others have been found dead, and there are still more thought to be under the rubble.
Herobrine is a story I'm sure we all have herd as a children, but some people actually tried and supposedly succeeded in summoning the monster. I'm here with one of the rescue workers who would like to share some stories."

"We know He is real, and we know He is out there. If the camera man will turn this way please...
Over there if you zoom in, you can see a lone tree without any leaves; a sign that He was here."

"Thank You Cristine. Herobrine is easily distinguished from others by his completely white eyes. It is recommended if you see him or white eyes on any creature, to flee and seek shelter imminently and call the police. Officers are currently looking for any clues as to who may have been responsible for this, and any clues with proof are appreciated. That is all I have for you, now over to Chris with the weather and Jeremy with the sports."

Taylor turned the TV off. The whole thing was coming back. His brother invited us to do come along that night,  we didn't believe him but I summoned the monster. I looked down, I caused the deaths of 14 innocent people, probably friends of his brother, who knows how many more under the rubble, and threw the whole continent into a state of panic .

"Um... N-no. This isn't r-real! It's just some s-story. What happened last night didn't happen! The Creator's aren't real! He's not real!"

"I thought the same thing..." Taylor sighed. "But like Nathan said, you cannot deny what you've  seen with your eyes."

I looked at the needle in my arm. I did all of this?! I hyperventilate and realize I'm screwed as if people know it was me, I would be put to death! What we did was essentially black magic, banned and illegal. Sure I thought it wouldn't do anything.
But what I saw... What I did, Taylor is right. I cannot deny what I've seen. I want to deny it so much... but I can't.
I glanced to the needle again.

I winced looking away, then Instead I sobbed into Taylor's shoulder. "It's my fault... I spilled my blood and summoned this monster. I've screwed so many innocent people and killed so many."

"Ranger, don't say that." He tried to reassure. "This isn't your fault."

"No! It is! I'M the one who said we should go with your brother! I'M the one who cut myself to bleed! I did! I killed 14 of your brothers friends and put the whole world into a state of panic!"
My thought's started to go dark at what I had done. I felt like I was being dragged downward as I hugged my friend. I thought I herd mutters of voices... but my thought's, they aren't what they normally are. Everything felt like it was turning to grey,
 "I don't deserve to live."

"Hey! DON'T think like that! We're gonna find a way to solve all of this! We have to try something!"

"...Kill me?" I shuddered. I was almost shaken by what I said. I didn't mean to say that!!

"No, We have to try something ELSE that does not involve killing you to stop him. Is there anyway?! Anything at all? Any ideas you guys?" Taylor looked to his friends.  "And stop being so suicidal all of a sudden."

"I didn't mean-"

"We can try the library? They should have plenty of stories about him, perhaps one will say something?" Nathan suggested as he interrupted my comment.
"Maybe your brother knows something? After all he's the one who set this up." Jake spoke up. "I may be able to look in my house for clues, given my families religious status."

"Alright then, we can try all." Taylor said.

I glanced down at my wrist and saw it bandaged up, knowing full well under there it's stitched up. Why did I do this? Give into pressure... we should have never gone to that thing his brother did. We were so focused on looking cool and popular... we didn't think of consequences on what would actually happen if it was real.

I tried to stand up, but Nate pushed me back down onto the hospital bed. "No Ranger, you need to stay here. You're still injured."

"But I-!"

"No, Stay. Here." Taylor grimaced. "Besides, I don't think we could sneak you out past the doctors."

Jake and Nathan opened the door and headed out. Taylor paused and looked back at me, winking.
"Well fix this Ranger. I'll make sure this is resolved." He left and the door was slammed shut. I frowned, all of this... because  of me.
