Chapter 23 - What Haunts Us All
-Ranger POV-
I just looked at him in awe for a moment. "W-what did you say? My parents, MY mother and father, were in this cult before? And that my mother was granted a blessing in Hero--... 'His' name to have me?"
"Did they never tell you? Your father was a good friend of my father, who knew your mother was constantly failing to bare a child. Thinking she was cursed, he introduced your mother to our group. My father said he may be able to help her with that with a dark magic spell. Did they really never say anything? Not one bit or hint?"
"N-No... they never talked about any cults. They said they didn't believe in the Creators or the old stories."
"Well... they were and are still in this fallowing. They were very actively involved in it, at least before you came long, then they wanted some time to raise you."
I looked to my friends'. "Guys... can you explain? Do you know anything?"
Taylor shrugged his shoulders. "The only thing we know is when we went to find your body after we broke out of jail, there was note telling us to come here, and that Kyle could possibly help you be brought back to life. Other then that, all we know is these people worship Herobrine."
"It's not worship, Damnit!" Kyle yelled. "People need to learn the difference for the love of anything!"
He sighed. "Never mind that. We want to help His Honor return to his full power, and take back what is rightfully his. In return we will be given strength to rise above regular men when he takes over. We certainty aren't the only people involved; there are plenty more who roam amongst the common man, who you wouldn't even know are in a group like this just by seeing them."
I couldn't bare what he was saying. It wasn't right, it wasn't true! My parents would never lie to me! They were so stubborn on not believing in the creators and all those old stories. I need to figure this out. And figure out all the answers to all the questions I had before, like how Taylor found me living in the wilderness when I was about to kill myself.
"I have too many questions to ask. To everyone I know. My parents, you guys, everyone."
"Then start asking us. We... we won't hold anything back." Taylor gave me a smile. I went to sit on a chair and Taylor came and sat right next to me.
"... No not right now. I need to see my parents. Nether, do they even know I was dead?! In the hospital?! Missing for months?! They never came to see me when I was recovering, and they didn't do anything to try and protect me from officials trying to kill me. I didn't even hear a word from them in the months I was gone... Do... Do they really care about me?"
"That's... well, our parents don't exactly like us a lot... anymore." Taylor scratched his head looking away. "We got in huge trouble when they found out what we did that night. We had to sneak out to try and find you and eventually, I stopped going to class to try and look for you. My mom and dad said if I don't change my ways and don't stop 'chasing a ghost' then I wouldn't be their son anymore."
"And?"
"...And... I'm not their son anymore. I knew you were alive, and I looked day in and day out for you. I never stopped, I never gave up. I always had a feeling you were still alive, this feeling in my heart you were still out there. And when I found you near death because you tried to kill yourself... I thought I died inside."
"Mom and Dad disowned me also." Jason spoke up. "They... had enough of me, and to stop being a 'bad influence' on my little brother. Needless to say, I don't think I've been slapped so hard by my dad before."
"He beat you?"
"The only time he ever did, certainty out of anger, but I'm an adult, not some child. They can disown me all they want... I will do what my heart says to. I didn't stop either, but towards the end I started to loose hope. I started to give up, then when Taylor called, I sparked back to wanting to fix this.
As for your parents, we never herd anything from them, from our parents or from anyone about how they were reacting to all of this. In fact, it had looked as if they disappeared as no one could ever see them out and about. Of course we caught glances of them so their alive, but whenever we went to ask questions, they ran."
I gave a sigh. "I... I don't know what to say. With how much of a cynical asshole I was being, you never stopped looking for me? Despite me even asking for death and how much I began to loathe you?"
"Everyone has those moments in life Ranger." Taylor smiled. "And you were acting on someone else's will, not your own. We knew it wasn't you talking, it was a demon."
"Well, I need to find them, my parents. I need to ask them about everything. Because... H-Herobrine had said the only reason I was here today, was because of Him. I thought he was playing some kind of cruel joke on me... maybe now he wasn't."
"He wasn't lying." Kyle interrupted. "You're very much here because of him. But... it's best you hear the whole story from your parents, as they know all the details. I only know the most basic outline."
I looked around the room with all the sad eyes on me. I went to the door. "I need to get beck to LochMill."
"Don't you mean 'We'?" Asked Monica. She turned to me as I stood up and headed towards the door out of here.
"No. There is no 'We' in this situation. I'm going back alone. I need to sort this all out with just my parents and I. I need to find the truth in the matter, and I don't need anyone seeing you guys, or Me being alive despite clearly being shot."
"What?!" Taylor frowned. "Let us come. We want to make sure you'll be ok and--"
"I'm. Going. Alone." I glared to Taylor.
"I can drive you and you off at your house." Kyle explained. "Because I'm heading that way anyway to visit my father."
"Then let's go already. I want to know what my parents have been doing with me gone."
"Ranger..." Taylor gave a sigh. "Please don't do anything rash."
I inhaled, and walked out of the room without saying anything to him.
