Chapter 21 - Resurrection

~Ranger POV~

I sat next to Herobrine who was sitting upon his throne, looking... board. You know, everyone always says he's evil and cynical, but... he just seems like he wants something to do. I mean, if I was trapped for all eternity in a place like this, I would get pretty board also.
He just kept balancing his axe on his finger tips like a game before I finally spoke up.

"Um, Herobrine? What's it like being down here?"

He gave me a glance then a bit of a smirk. "What do you think? I control a bunch of monsters in an insanely hot realm full of fire and lava that no one ever dreams of stepping foot in, and am put down here because my siblings hate me. What do you think?"

"I... guess I should have expected. But I  also have another question."
He gave me an 'I'm annoyed' sounding sigh. "Back when I first met you after I died, you said I shouldn't even be here. Why is that?"

He smiled. "Because... I'm the reason your here." He placed his hand over his chest like he was trying to flaunt the importance in his sentence. "Without my intervention, you would have been dead before you even knew you were alive. But I don't care to tell you how, Your parents should have told you in all honesty. Then maybe everything wouldn't have happened the way it did and you would still be alive!"

"What? My parents have never kept secrets from me! Do my parents even know I'm dead?!"

"Ahahaha!" He gave himself a forehead slap and laughed sadistically. "You're so naïve I almost feel bad for you. They may have told the truth with your past, but Do you really think your parents have told you everything about their past? Because I'll tell you now, they haven't. In fact, they have quite the shady history. As for if they know if your dead or not... hmm, I can't say. But because of who they are, their probably happy your dead."

The last sentence he said really got me. "... Are you trying to piss me off?"

"Mmm maybe. Maybe what I said is is true, maybe not. But Knowing I'm the only person who can ever talk to you anymore, and it's funny watching you suffer. After all, you called me a Sadist, and I'm happy to be called as such. The more you mortals fear me, the better."

He seemed joyful at the way he said that last sentence. I rolled my eyes as he stood from his chair and walked past me.
I glared at him, but sigh knowing it was true, I couldn't escape and no one could ever see me again.

But... He had to be lying! My parents wouldn't ever keep secrets from me. They were always honest with me, just as I was honest with them. They said nothing about me was weird when I was born, I was normal and grew up a quiet life.
Yet my mind is nagging me more on what he said earlier. The fact I shouldn't exist without his help.
What did this mean?! Did he do something to mg parents before I was born?
Have my parents had an encounter with him before?

I got up and was about to fallow Him to wherever he was going, but there was a strong pressure to my head, like a migraine just suddenly came on. I struggled and took a step back, holding my head, feeling a little ill to my stomach. Things were flickering black in my vision in the corners. It was like my very body was telling me to stop doing anything and curl up and die.
Herobrine glanced back to me. "You coming, Blondie? Or are you staying put?"

The force grew stronger. "W-What's this... p-power? This pain?"

"What's what power?" He glared back to me. He came close. I felt like I had just slammed my head to a wall obsidian with how bad this pain was. Then there was a surge to my chest.
"Grahhh!" I screeched as I fell to one knee in my ghostly form. Herobrine took a step back, looking over me.

Looking to my hand, I saw something about it. Something... change. It looked like my ghostly skin was cracking, chipping off to reveal... a physical version of me. A not ghost me. Literally like chipped paint on the walls coming off.

Herobrine saw this and grew both angry concerned. "What's going on here!? What are those idiots doing?!"

"I-Idiots? W-who's-"

"I know who's doing this!! By anything, why?! It counteracts everything!" He screeched.

Then the surge came again and a light came from my chest. The cracks of light grew longer and more broken. The light became brighter. The pain I was in, greater then any physical pain I had been in. It felt like my very soul was being torn to shreds and my body turned inside out. My very self being torn limb from limb, shattered like glass.

"This is NOT over, Ranger."
Herobrine muttered before light overcame me. I felt more shatters and cracks come from my skin before I blanked into nothingness...

~Taylor POV~

"Is it working?!" I shouted over the loud windy noise that was being made.

"I.... think...?" Kyle struggled to reply. "I've never done this before!"
He was struggling as a strong force of pure power was partially blowing him away like wind. The blue flames above the spirit circle glowed with a bright flurry of light that made it hard to see.

"Come back to me, Ranger. Please."

What we were doing, illegal punishable by death. What we were doing is dark magic, and if found out, all of us to be executed. But if even the slightest chance it would work, I will do it. If it fails, my soul will be torn a part, as will everyone in this room. If it succeeds... then... well, I don't want to spoil it now, will I?

"Wait wait! Here!"  Kyle screamed. Then, the blue flames around the circle went white. I shielded my face, and peeked though, saw the feint outline of a hunched over body above the circle. Then, the light blinded me and I had to close them completely shut. A loud ringing noise overwhelmed my senses as white took over.

Eventually, everything was fading back to normal. The noise went away and the shining light died off. Looking to the center of the spirit circle, I saw Ranger's body face first to the ground.
Kyle was on the ground, coughed, and slowly stood up, a little dazed by my guess as he stumbled. He then gasped after two people helped him up.
"Blazing eyes... I've done it." He whispered. "I've... brought her back from beyond the point of no return."

"Did you?" Nate asked, giving a concerned look to the body, and poking it with a stick. It wasn't moving at all, as dead as when Kyle first showed us the body. I went over and felt her. I tried to shake her to no appeal. I put my fingers to her jugular...

There, a slow but steady pulse was felt.

I was wide eyed thinking about what just happened. Kyle managed to bring Ranger's soul back from being trapped in the Nether, and let her live once more. He brought back the dead from beyond the point of no return. I smiled ecstatically knowing she was alive. She was out cold, but alive.

He sat down on the small steps and held his head. "She'll be ok. She just needs to wake up, may take a few hours. But by Nether's fire, I've done it. Something my father-- heck anyone I know, could never do. Something... I don't think anyone ever succeeded in."

"What happened exactly during the spell?"

"I had to tear her soul in half, bring it back to her body, and fuse the two parts together once more. It's... hard to explain. All you need know is that a full soul cannot travel between the realms once departed, so splitting the soul in two and fixing once back in her body. It's an extremely difficult process, and if failed, dooms everyone in the near vicinity."

"So you found it, tore it apart, and yeeted it back into her body, hm?" Nate gave a laugh. It didn't go over well.

"Not now, Nate."

"But..." Kyle rubbed his chin and began to mutter. "Something was very off about her soul. The two parts; the light and dark... parts of one was in the other. How in the name of His Honor could that be? Except... if... hmm... It would make a lot of sense."

"Are you ok, Kyle?"

"Hm? Oh yeah, I'm just... exhausted after it all. But I was talking to myself because.... err, actually, n-never mind, you won't understand." Kyle stood up, grabbing a bottle of water. He bit the cork out, and began to drink.

"W-will she be the same? Will she know us? Have memories?" Asked Nate.

Kyle slapped his hands on his pants. "I don't know. I've never done this before, nor do I know anyone who has. But the important thing here is that we succeeded.
Now if you don't mind, I'm going to crash on the bed."  At least that was his plan before falling comically face first onto the ground. "Ow... I think I'll stay here."

"What should we do with the body?" I asked Kyle as he simply laid splayed out on the floor. Nate decided to poke the body with his foot, and I elbowed him in response.

"Put her in the bed? I don't fucking know!" Kyle yelled. "I'm too tired to figure that out right now."
