Chapter 11 - Runaway

"GO GO GO!!!" Monica screamed as she shoved the door open and we all made a break for it. We ran down the halls, past the doctors in shock, trying to get away out of commotion.

We raced to the end of the hall, and Monica went over to the glass cover on the fire pull. "I've always wanted to do this!"
She yanked it down and a obnoxious loud and blaring ringing came from all around.

Taylor pushed the door open and we preictally flew down the steps. My semi asleep self still trying to wash off the pain killers made me stumble but Jake had my hand to keep me up. There was surprisingly no one else in the shaft as we raced down.

With a few more steps, we soon came to the door and burst though it, to the backside of the hospital like I did once before. Monica took the lead and called us to a small set of thick bushes, all of us diving into them to hide. I silently contacted them to fallow me, past the bushes and under a chain link fence.

On the other side, we were on a flat field of grass, but looking to the West, I saw a car almost come flying past into the dirt. It was an SUV, and rolled down the windows was Jason.

"Notch above Jason! Don't destroy it!" Monica yelled. The trunk lifted open, and Jake, Taylor, Nathan and I leapt to the trunk and Monica slammed it shut. She went into the front seat next to Jason and the car quickly sped up, and went over many bumps on the ground. Then one more hard thump and the ground smoothed; we were back on the road.

"Is everyone here?!" Jason demanded.

"2...3...4...5... yes, all of us. Thank Notch your ok." Monica breathed a sigh of relief.

"What's going on?! And why the Nether are you driving so recklessly?!" Jake screamed.

"Jake, you answered your own question. Look to your side." Jason replied. They all turned to me.

"Ranger is officially wanted as a criminal, everyone's out for her head. Before it was just the police, now everyone knows your face and there's a huge reward out for it. We have to get you out of here.

"To where?! I can't keep running forever!"

"Just until we find the true way to stop this curse." Jason made a glare of sorts at me, and I didn't know why.

"The true way?"

"The stories all say to kill the one who summoned Herobrine, but that can't be the only way, it just can't. Because If that was the case, He would have already died."

"Wait what? Already died?"

"Yeah Ranger about that..." Taylor voice trailed off. "Um... when we found you, we were too late to get you medical attention... and you died... but only for a few minutes! I would think that even if you died for only a few moments, Herobrine would still be dead... wouldn't he? Unless he came back to life when you came back."

"So I died technically... even if only for a few minutes?"

"Yep. Your heart had stopped. But We managed to get you back!"

I looked down almost in confusion and frustration.
"T-Then that place I saw... I-it really was the Nether."

"What was that?" Taylor asked

"Um! Er, never mind. More important question... how in the Nether did you find me?"

"Listen talk about this later please! I need to focus so the Police Don't get suspicious! I need to drive carefully. So keep your voices down and head low." Jason turned up the radio as he said that.

We had been driving for a few hours now and I looked to my side, downward. My dark thoughts coming back to me, I feel as if I should just jump out of the car right now and go splat. I leaned my head on my hand, in pain. The guys saw me like that. "What's wrong?" Taylor asked me.

"I just feel awful. All of this would never have happened had we just stayed in bed that one night. All because we wanted to be seen as the cool kids, but in reality, were just a bunch of losers who have no place anywhere."

"That unusually depressing coming from you." Nate remarked.

"Well no shit Nathan. Does it look like I want to be here? Why do we do anything if life is going to end anyway? Not just our life... but life as we know it. For all we know, we could just be some game the Creator's are watching and we're forced to play. Does life really have a meaning?"

"Ranger, snap out of it!" Taylor hit me slightly with his hand. "Stop thinking like that! Your never like this! This isn't you!"

"No... but its hard knowing that I'm the reason with everything wrong in the world."

"You're not! Now stop thinking like that! Stop wishing for yourself to die! Were gonna figure this out together! You won't die, and you're aren't useless! Stop letting that bastard take over your thoughts and say this kind of stuff!"

I was about to speak up when we herd the noise of police sirens blaring outside our car. Jason gasped quietly and Monica turned to him. He nodded off and then turned around and gave us a smile. "Hold on, I've got this."

He turned on his flashers and the car started to slow down. We all huddled together, trying to take up as little space as possible. Soon the car came to a stop and the blaring siren quieted, but the lights still flashed. We herd the noise of doors opening and closing behind us. Jason rolled down his window as a pale skinned officer and a darker skinned officer approached the vehicle. We slowed our breathing to quiet our noise, and we listened closely to the conversation.

"What seems to be the officer, problem?" Jason asked.

"License please." One of the officers asked. Jason handed over his ID to the officer who gave it to his cohort who went back to their car. "Sir, do you know why I pulled you over?"

"No officer. What did I do?"

"Well, for starters your car has no back license plate. You were caught going 16 miles over the speed limit, and were seen back at LakeVeiw hospital, where Ranger De'Fillo was last seen before she escaped."

"I was speeding?" Jason gave a coy voice. "I didn't notice, my apologies. I'll take whatever the fine was and pay it when possible. As for my license plate, I have it in my car, it just fell off the other day and I'm heading back home with my girl as you can see and we'll fix it up as soon as possible."

"And LakeVeiw?"

"I think you're mistaken for another car or person. I was no where near LakeView. I didn't even know LakeView had a hospital, haha!"

Nathan cringed and Taylor pinched his fingers on his eyes. "Your brother sucks at lying."

"I know." Taylor sighed.

"Sir... please step out of the car." The officer asked.

"Uhh-Um... w-why is that needed? I'm haven't drunk anything nor do I have any contraband."

"I need everyone to step out of the car. I can re-attach your license plate but I need everyone out of the car to do so."

Jason chuckled a little. "Please, I'm only about 10 minutes from home, and I don't like anyone but My mechanic working on my car. You can even escort us there if you so wish!"

"Sir, your car is not legal. Now I can either reattach it now, or I can haul it back to LakeVeiw impound. Your choice."

Jason sighed and unhooked his seatbelt. Monica also did the same thing. Were they giving up?!
"Let me get my plate from the back seat." Jason said. We herd the back seat open up and Jason leaned down shuffling though trash in the back seat. "Psst! Crawl though the seat and get in the back row." He whispered before pulling away.

We didn't know what he meant. Crawl though the seats'?! "Here is my plate officer." Jason gave the flat piece of metal to the pale skinned officer.
However, that is when everything went downhill...

The other officer opened the trunk right up to expose the four of us. He gasped in terror. "Ranger is here! He's smuggling her!"

In a quick flurry, Jason went and tackled the officer as we all scrambled out of the car. "We got a 505 code red. Backup needed at 70 Central about 5 miles down road. Ranger De'fillio spotted, I repeat Ranger De'Fillio spotted." The officer yelled to his walkie on his shoulder.

"You guys go with Monica! You're about 10 miles from a town! Just run!" Jason then struggled with the officer, both on the ground struggling and fighting. He was attacking him on the ground.

"What about you?!" I screamed.

"Forget about me! Just go!!" Jason got off one officer and tackled the other to the ground. We took the words and ran though the fields of wheat. We were spiriting as fast as we could, but we herd police sirens blare far in the distance. We gasped for air and kept on going though the wheat then into tall grass.

"Their gaining on us!!" Jake yelled.

"To the forest! It's our only hope to loose them!" Monica yelled. We kept going as the sounds got louder and we ran into the forest, the sky obscured by the trees. We herd screeching tire skids and doors opening, the sounds of people yelling and dogs barking.

It was hard to see everything in the forest. Though not as dark as some places, the tall trees still obscured the little light given the time of day. Wet, slimy ground mud slipped into our toes, giving an awful wet squish feeling that made me cringe.

"Grah!!" Nate yelled. I glanced over and saw him fall to the ground. Even though I was worried about the police, I still ran to his side.

"Stupid glass!" He cursed. He had stepped right onto a piece of shared glass, now at least half an inch into his foot with the rest sticking out, it pierced though his shoes. In quick thinking, I grabbed him and took all the weight off his bad foot and ran with his arm across my neck, him hopping on the other good foot. Grunting, we kept onward.

The sounds started to quiet down and we slowed a bit. We held our breaths silent as we waited behind trees to see if anyone or anything had found us.
"I think we lost them for now, but their still on us. C'mon, we need to keep going, they'll certainly find us if we stay here, and those dogs will find us anyway." Monica helped me carry Nate and we continued into the forest.
