Shanghai Institute - 1872

The screams were unbearable.

Her brother was writhing on the floor in front of her, screaming for help. But she couldn't help him. There was nothing she could do. She had already watched her mother and father die. Her brother was unconscious by then but she saw everything. The demon forced her to watch as it slaughtered first her father and then her mother in cold blood.

And now her brother was suffering even more.

She sobbed aloud again as her brother let out another screech. "Jian!" She cried. "Jian!" She screamed for her brother. She screamed at the demon to stop injecting the awful drug into him. It caused him so much pain, which hurt her too. Tears slid down her cheeks.

"Have you given up yet?" Yanluo hissed at her.

No. She had to keep fighting. She had to keep fighting it.

"I will hurt him in the most unimaginable way possible. I will tear him to shreds. I will rip you apart in this life and the next and the next. If you ever think you're safe, I will hunt you down. Now and forever." She could feel it clawing at her mind, gnawing at her consciousness, slowly peeling back her weak defences. It showed her terrifying images of the world running with blood, raging with fire and her brother in the centre of it all.

"This is your fate," the demon screeched. "Just give up. Give up. GIVE UP!" It had got her. There was no way out. She looked at her brother who's white and unfocussed eyes locked with hers. She couldn't do it. She couldn't watch him being hurt anymore. She couldn't watch him die. He meant too much to her. She couldn't lose him like she had lost her parents.

It had unhinged her.

It had crippled her.

It had broken her.

Pain engulfed her body as the demon final got to work after days of leaving her untouched. After days of making her watch and suffer. It was it's way of weakening and preparing her. It invaded her mind, flooding her with it's evil. She felt it ripping out her soul.

"This is my gift to you," the demon whispered in her mind. "And it will cause you and your brother pain for the rest of your short existence. You will be my slave on Earth. The Shadowhunters won't be able to fight you. You are my weapon to destroy them all!" The pain intensified and she fell onto the floor, reaching for her brother's out stretched hand for the little comfort he could offer her as she lost consciousness.

Hi peeps and thank you so much for stumbling across my little Infernal Devices fanfiction over here! It may not be much but I appreciate that you're reading this.

So I will be following the Infernal Devices story line with a little twist here and there but the centre of the story will be Grace, Jem and Will. Tessa and the others will be in it though so don't worry.

So thank you for reading this so far, hopefully I'll see you soon!
