The Curse

A cold breeze lifted some maple leaves from the ground, each one had a distinct color. In a quick flash, a small creature darted nearby, a quick gleam of amber eyes and a dark brown pelt.

"Do you got the stuff?" a voice said quietly.

"Of course I do." another voice spoke. A thud is heard on the ground. A small creature in a cloak reveals themself, with a mangled face, they seem to be something like a cat/wolf mixed, but with horns. Apparently the creature is called a Kirosphena. The kirosphena looked down and began mumbling ancient words to the other animal that seemed to be a small cat. Suddenly a small hitting noise and a small walnut is lying on the ground while the kirosphena laughs.

"Maybe you should've been more careful..." he chuckled

4 years later

A small tabby was padding through the green forest full of wonders. It was dark and lightning bugs were fluttering on living their life. His name was Beetle, he was a crafter. On his side was a small jar of lit creatures, just like the ones flying, on the other was a small basket that was well weaved by his neat paws. Finally on his neck was a glass with a floating shard inside, more show than power. He flicked his short stubby tail and walked on.

Crack... "Hello?" He called a bit too loudly. In response he heard a scrape of a rock on rock.

"Who's there?" Beetle asked. After a few more times of the repeating response, he gathered enough courage to explore the noise. Letting his sharp, metal claws slide out, he came upon a dark part of the woods. A small light was shining through the forest trees and onto a small rock looking thing. Slowly, he walked up to it.

"Are you kidding me? All this for a stupid walnut." He growled. The walnut began to form a weird mouth and eyes that shouldn't be there. The cat jumped back and began to hiss at the odd nut.

"Hello. I am August, a walnut that has been cursed by the ancestors of the dark magicked ones. The wretched kirosphena has cursed me when I thought I could trust them." The nut spoke. Their voice was deep, it sounded like someone was scraping metal on another piece of metal. How does this 'thing' speak? Beetle thought.

"How... What?" He was confused, another word could be bamboozled, confuzzled, take your pick. "You saw a kirosphena?" He barely could get the words out.

"Yes indeed." August spoke. "Yes indeed."
