54| War
When Lucy's eyes opened, she was startled to find she was no longer standing in the Library among her friends. Instead, she was alone, gazing around a now open area. Buildings, laid crumbled on the stone ground. Flames, in some areas, had reached twenty to thirty feet.
Lucy took a few paces forward. Was this real? She thought to herself. The sky around her was darkening, the red tint in it growing bolder and more eerie. She looked around her, yet nothing seemed familiar. The broken structure of this city was unrecognizable.
A menacing roar shook the stones at her feet. Rumbling through the ground itself. At that moment, Lucy was overwhelmed with fear. She had only heard tales of it. Tears began to well up in her eyes at the thought of it. The voice of Acnologia.
She looked up at the sky, only to find the monstrous figure of the dragon soaring high above her. Lucy trembled at the sight. There he was. The slayer who turned into a dragon. The stories she's heard about him used to keep her up at night.
The giant seemed to pay no mind to Lucy below him. Cautiously, she continued walking. Her eyes darting from place to place, hoping to find something of use. After a few minutes she heard two voices. To her it seemed as if two people were quarreling.
"This is absurd!" Shouted a woman's quaint voice.
As they came into view Lucy gasped softly. Her eyes landed on a woman with pure white hair and dark skin.
"Evion.." Lucy whispered under her breath.
The man standing merely a few feet away from her was very handsome. He was tall and slender, short fiery red hair, light brown eyes, and a wardrobe that consisted only of darkly toned colors.
"We have no other options. If you cannot do anything about this mess, you will be the one to blame, Evion." The man crossed his arms.
"Igneel, please! This wasn't our doing! Lest you've forgotten, he was a Dragon Slayer. Not a Spirit Wizard Slayer. This no longer has anything to so with us!" Evion pleaded before him.
Igneel? That man was...Natsu's father? But I thought he was a dragon. As I pondered that in my head I realized what scene I was witnessing. The truth. This was the moment that changed everything and cursed my life.
"The world will not believe you. They fear us." Igneel replied coldly.
"I thought you'd have my back, Igneel. You promised me." She chocked back tears.
Igneel shook his head. "This cannot fall on the Dragons."
"So you'll pin the blame on us? Even though we had nothing to do with it?!" Evion shouted angrily.
He nodded in return. "You foolish humans got yourselves caught up in our war. This will be your punishment."
With that Igneel turned and walked away from Evion. But she shook her head violently. "Don't you dare walk away from me. Why should we suffer for your crimes? What gives you the right?"
He turned to look at her over his shoulder. "You know, there was always something about you that I was so drawn to. The human with fire in her eyes. It saddens me a great deal that such a lovely woman perish. But it is very likely you will not survive what is to come."
Then he vanished without a trace, leaving Evion standing alone with her mouth agape. It was obvious she was stunned. Lucy watched as her head hung low and her shoulders began she shake.
"How could he say something like that to me? After everything hes done." She breathed, tears trickling down her face.
Lucy felt a pit growing in her stomach as she watched. Instinctively, she reached out her hand. "Evion."
Lucy's voice didn't reach her though. She then realized that she wasn't really there. This was a memory of Evion's. She had witnessed what happen first hand. She was the most reliable source.
Lucy thought about the conversation that transpired. Igneel hadn't seemed to want to help Evion. But she spoke to him like an old friend. So, she was right. They weren't responsible for what happened. For the creation of the Black Dragon. They had been set up, by the Dragons.
A sense of relief washed over Lucy as she leaned up against a near by wall and slid down it so that she was then sitting. Now all she'd have to do was find a way to prove it to the world. She'd be free. For real.
The hardest part will be finding away to actually prove it. No one would believe her if she simply said she saw it happen. Playing back memories was also a very unreliable idea; considering it could easily be played off as a trick.
Lucy closed her eyes and shook her head. This was no good. It was only then had she realized that the information she just learned was completely useless unless she can prove that its even valid. She thought she had thought this through completely. But it seems she was wrong.
She forced her eyes open and stood from her sitting position on the ground. Lucy knew just sitting around waiting for this to end wasn't going to help her. Maybe if she went looking she could find something.
The darkness around her thickened and she could feel the evil in the air. Lucy often found herself quaking at the ominous sounds that rang as she walked. Around her, was a battlefield. Her eyes had wandered over the stomach turning images of citizens who had 'gotten in the way'.
No matter how much Lucy just wanted to stand there and close her eyes, she pushed on. She had found herself wandering up a hill. Shattered buildings lay around her. Lucy turned to look back, her eyes landing on a sight she knew she'd never forget.
Fire had engulfed a monstrous city. Thick black smoke raised into the clouds, shadowing the land below. The sky it self was a burning red color. In the center of all the chaos and havoc, was the dreaded Black Dragon. Spreading the seed of annihilation.
Suddenly she felt as if she couldn't stand. Her head grew lighter as the moment went on. Lucy felt herself begin to slip from consciousness. Then, everything went dark.
