2| Spirits

She sat silently being completely still in her cell, waiting patently for the guards to leave the ghost like hallway just to stand on the other side of the doors for the night.

It was too dark in the cell for anyone to see her, but she sat far away from the bars on the off chance someone watching her had great vision.

Nearly ten minutes later the sound of the doors being open echoed down the dim hall. Meaning that the guards would no longer be constantly watching them.

Lucy sat still for three more minutes, just to be sure they weren't coming back in any time soon. Or waited for another inmate to attempt to escape.

It happened quite a lot, when it occurred she always sat by silently and watched the person be carried off to an even more terrible fate than imprisonment. It was always someone who had been cursing her with their words. They would scream while being pulled away that the "Spirit Mage" forced them to attempt to escape.

She felt around the floor with her hands when she knew for a fact it was safe. Searching for something frantically, moments later her hand glided over a loose rock. She pulled it out of its place and shoved her hand deep into the hole, pulling out a set of keys that made a jingling sound as she moved them.

Though it was too dark to see, she knew which key was which by the amount of magic energy they gave off. Living in the dark for so long caused her to find alternative ways to do natural things. She held one up, slightly above her knees.

"Gate of the Lion, I open the, Loke!" She whispered before a small flash of light filled the cell and then vanished instantly. This raised questions among the other prisoners but they said nothing.

"Yes, Lucy?" A man with a romantic voice questioned the one who had called him out of his world.

"Loke! They are going to execute me!" Lucy cried quietly to him, she pressed her hands to her face as every muscle in her body shook with terror.

Ever since the trial hours ago, she could think of nothing else. Her final days were going to be spent in a jail cell deep within the underground prison.

"What!? No! They can't do that!" He nearly shouted, causing the guard at the door to look around in question. Luckily the two made no further sounds as they waited for him to go back to what ever he was doing.

"Sh, Loke! If they see you here, they'll know I have my keys...t-they'll destroy them!" Lucy's voice shook with fear, that was her biggest concern.

Loke placed his hands gently on each of her slumped shoulders. She was overwhelmed by the comforting feeling of his loving touch.

Loke was the closest friend Lucy had ever had, as a matter a fact he was the only friend she'd ever had. Or at least the first.

She had been shunned so much, all her life by the people around her treated her like she was garbage. Even her own grandmother called her a monster.

The only people who truly loved her were her mother and father. Because they were disowned by the world itself as well. Her mother, because she too was a Celestial Wizard. Her father, because he willingly made a child with a Celestial Wizard. Then there was Lucy herself, who was condemned to this life because of something she was born as. She has had to live everyday without a friend, until one day six years ago.

Capricorn "The Goat", he was one of the twelve zodiac keys who had previously fought for Lucy's mother, snuck into the prison and gave Lucy a set of keys, which her mother had been collecting for when she came of age.

After that she spent every night taking out her keys and conversing with each and everyone of her spirits. She grew to love them all, even the ones who were more difficult to get along with. They loved her in return, even though she had never truly fought in a battle with them, their bonds were strong.

"Lucy, you are our master. We will not allow you to fall,we all regret not being there for your mother when she passed. I know the other spirits feel the same way about this. We will protect you until the very end." Loke's voice was low but a great deal of compassion was clear.

"Loke..." Lucy smiled lightly as tears fell from her dark eyes, streaming down her ice cold cheeks.

"When do they plan to execute you?" Loke questioned after a few moments of Lucy getting herself together.

"In four days, but knowing the council they'll have me on the execution block tomorrow!" She replied fearfully.

Loke sat there still for a moment. He seemed to be going over the situation quite hard in his head. He felt a smile flash across his face as a solution invaded his mind.

"Then, we will have you out of here by mid-night!" He beamed brightly.

Lucy's eyes widened. "Mid-night. That's in thirty minutes!"

Loke blissfully nodded his head. "Are you ready to be a free Celestial Wizard, Lucy?"

Lucy sat there, questioning whether or not this plan was a good idea. On one hand, she wanted nothing more than to see the sun again. The prison has no windows, neither does the trial room for the Celestial Wizards. She had been there so long she no longer remembered her parents faces.

Then on the other hand she knew she would eventually be caught again. This time she will be seen as an even bigger threat to society and will be taken to a top secret location and experimented on or tortured.

But then, a thought crossed her mind that sent her decision flying in one direction.

"I've always wanted to know what ice cream tasted like!" A joyful smile lit her beautiful face.

"Then first thing we will do once you are free, is go to an Ice Cream Shop. It will be my treat!" Loke beamed with delight.

"Thank you, Loke. You are the best spirit a Celestial wizard could ask for." Lucy spoke sweetly.

"You are the most caring wizard a spirit could ever dream of having, you stay here quietly while I get Virgo and Gemini." Loke uttered before disappearing into thin air.

"They'll catch you, young demon. They'll catch you and force you through unbearable pain. Go, you deserve the fate you are condemning yourself too." A coarse old woman spoke from the cell across the hall.

It was the first time an inmate had even spoken a single word to her in twelve years. Everyone else pretended she wasn't there, or whispered behind her back as she walked by.

Soon she would be rid of this horrible hell they called a prison. She may be shunned out in the real world, but at least she'll feel the breeze on her face and the sun on her skin.
