18| Beliefs

Lucy woke up the next morning with a brilliant thought in her head, or at least that's what she believed. Her aunt had stayed the night at Erza's house, so it was still just her and Gray.

They all agreed that it was by far the safest place for her to stay. Lucy thought having more than one other extra person at Gray's would attract attention.

She did her morning routine and slipped on her normal outfit. When she left her room and entered the kitchen she was greeted by a shirtless Gray.

She had learned very quickly that Gray had this habit, where he would just strip, without even knowing. It had become quite normal to her after the second or so week.

"Gray, put a shirt on." She muttered as she walked past him and to the fridge.

"Eh?" Gray looked down and his eyes widened, seeing his bare chest.

"Dammit." He cursed before walking out in annoyance.

Lucy opened the fridge door and searched through what it contained, she didn't want anything particular but she felt as if her stomach was eating itself. She stood there with the door wide open for a couple minutes, intentionally letting all the cool air escape.

Gray came back in the kitchen, this time with a navy blue T shirt on. It didn't bother Lucy when Gray's habit kicked in and he unknowingly took his shirt off.

But Gray admitted to her one night after he had one too many glasses of wine that, he was uncomfortable being shirtless around her because he was afraid she'd think badly of him. So she made a point to tell him every time an article of clothing went missing from his body.

"Would you like some waffles?" Gray questioned as he walked up behind her and looked over her shoulder.

Lucy frowned and pursed her lips for a moment, contemplating weather or not that was what she wanted. But then she bobbed her head up and down in approval.

"Yeah, that actually sounds pretty good." Before she met Gray she had never had waffles or any food that is.

"Alright, waffles it is!" Gray smiled as Lucy shut the fridge door and walked over to the kitchen table, sitting down in her normal seat so she could watch Gray as he cooked her breakfast.

"So my sheltered friend, what would you like to do today? Or should I pick for you once again?" He questioned as he ran around the kitchen, collecting the ingredients for his amazing home-made waffles.

Each day, Gray attempted to plan something different that Lucy had never had the pleasure of doing before. Seeing as for twelve years while other kids were out doing anything and everything, Lucy was locked inside a dark cell with no bed.

"Actually, I know what I am going to do today." She answered, watching him intently.

"Oh yeah, what might that be?" Gray chuckled lightly.

He cracked two eggs into a bowl and threw away the egg shells. Then poured two cups of flour into the same bowl. Never taking his eyes off what he was doing during the entire conversation.

"I am going to challenge Natsu to a fight." She uttered boldly.

Gray's body stopped moving and he turned his head to make eye contact with Lucy.

Meanwhile at the guild...

"Natsu I seriously think you and I would make a great team!" A girl with short white hair and gem like blue eyes.

Natsu shook his head and waved his hand. "Lisanna...I am partners with Happy and that is it. There is no room for anyone else."

Lisanna began to pout playfully as she continued to beg. "Please! We've known each other for ever! We are best friends!"

Natsu looked over at her and sighed. The two were sitting at a table near the doors of Fairy Tail. The members around them were happily cheering and singing with mugs of alcohol.

"Oy Lisanna, can I ask you something?" He questioned after a moment of silence between them.

"Of course!" Lisanna smiled brightly.

The two were childhood friends and had always told each other anything. After a while Lisanna developed feelings for the thick headed dragon slayer but she came to find out he didn't feel the same about her.

A few years ago she had accepted the fact that Natsu wouldn't like her back and gave up, but vowed to be his best friend if she could be nothing else. Which meant she had to listen to what ever nonsense went through his head and sometimes she wasn't sure what to think.

"Is it wrong to hate someone you don't know?" He asked.

Lisanna raised her eyebrows in shock. For once this was actually a question that was possible to answer. But she frowned as soon as she realized who he was actually talking about.

"You are talking about Lucy aren't you?" She questioned.

Natsu frowned. "She seemed so innocent, so lost. Why did she have to be the one thing I despise most?"

Lisanna shook her head. "I don't know the answer to that, Natsu. But you could always try to give her a chance. Maybe she isn't what you think she is."

Natsu shook his head as well. "I can't do that, Lisanna. She is a Celestial wizard. You know what they've done. They killed the dragons. Even Wendy and Gajeel's dragons were killed."

Lisanna pursed her lips. "Natsu there were no bodies. You don't know if they were killed or not. They could have just disappeared!"

"Igneel would never just leave me! Why would you think like that? Igneel loved me!" Lisanna could tell that she had hit a soft spoke by the tone of his voice.

"Natsu you wanted me opinion and I gave it to you. Don't act like I'm the bad guy!" Lisanna placed her hands firmly on the table.

Natsu looked away and crossed his arms. "I wish I had never met Lucy."

Lisanna knew that wasn't true. Deep inside he wanted nothing more than to spend time with Lucy and get to know her. When she was living with him was the happiest shed seen him since the day Happy was born.

And then something clicked in Lisanna's mind. To her, it all started to make sense. "Oh my god.."
