12| A taste of heaven
The sun was shinning in through the curtain onto the golden haired girl all wrapped up in thick blanket. It was still early, yet the heat from the sun was already starting to warm the room.
There was a light knock of the bedroom door before Gray popped his head in. "Lucy?"
She didn't reply so he opened his mouth again. "Lucy, I will be heading to the guild shortly. Want to stop by the bakery and get breakfast first?"
Lucy rolled over slowly, calmly awoken by Gray's voice. "That sounds...lovely."
He voice was light and sleepy as she pulled the comforter off her face. Revealing her heavy eyes. She smiled at Gray as they finally made eye contact.
"Be ready soon, Okay?" He grinned.
She nodded. "Sure."
With that Gray left the room. Leaving Lucy alone to wake herself up some more. She pulled the covers off her body and sat up slowly.
Glancing around the room, she was a bit disappointed that she had not woken up in Natsu's bed as she had for the past few days.
Shaking off the depressing feeling she slid out of bed and over to the dresser she had emptied her bag into.
She pulled out a white silk hooded dress, and a pair of navy blue gloves. Her leather wood like boots lay next to it. She slipped into the outfit, latching her keys into the small holster around her thigh that kept them concealed under her dress.
After doing the daily things Natsu had taught her how do do like brush her teeth and clean up, she headed out into the living room.
Gray was sitting on the darkest couch out of the three that were there. He was staring into the fire he had probably started awhile ago to keep the house warm.
"I'm ready!" Lucy smiled putting her arms behind her back.
Gray turned in her direction. "You women take for ever to get ready!"
He let out a laugh as he stood and walked her to the front door. He turned the nob and opened it up. Revealing an already busy Magnolia.
"I don't remember a single soul getting up this early before I was taken away." Lucy gazed around in awe as the two set off from the house.
"It's sad you don't remember much. Everything that you told me last night...after hearing that there is no way I couldn't help you." Gray grinned.
Before Lucy knew it they were standing in front of a small coffee shop. She stared up at the sign, tilting her head slightly in question.
"What's...C-Coffee?" She asked Gray without taking her eyes off the sign.
He looked down at her. "You've never had coffee?"
Lucy shook her head. "One of the many downsides of being imprisoned all your life is that you get to miss out of every little thing in life."
"I think you will love it, it goes amazing with a doughnut!" He smiled brightly.
That's when Lucy looked up at him. His eyes widened slightly when he realized what that look in her eyes meant.
"You aren't serious are you?" He questioned, almost pained. "One coffee and one doughnut for the sheltered miss."
Gray smiled before opening the door and letting Lucy inside. They were greeted by a short stocky man withe silver hair, though it was not from age.
"Table for two? Ah, Gray! Have you finally found yourself a girlfriend?" The man grinned brightly.
Lucy looked over at Gray who even though he was scowling, his cheeks had flushed red. All through out the night she tried to figure out what that reaction was. But the flushed faces remained a mystery to her.
"No, no no. Just taking a friend out for breakfast, Clyde. Nothing more." He answered in return.
"Ah that's too bad, she's quite the cute one." Clyde said before showing Gray and Lucy where an open table was.
Gray pulled Lucy's chair out for her and waited until she sat down before pushing it back into place. He took his seat before a mid-aged woman walked up to the table.
"Goodmoring, Gray. Will you be having your usual?" She questioned.
He nodded politely. "Yes, thank you, Mrs. Shimmer-tree."
"What about for the lovely miss you have with you?" She added in sweetly.
He stared intently at Lucy for a moment."She will have a coffee, creamer and four spoon fulls of sugar, and a glazed doughnut. Still warm please."
"Alright, I'll have that ready for you in a few moments." With that she walked off into the back room where Lucy assumed they made everything.
"You got all that just by looking at me?" Lucy questioned.
"You knew what I was doing?" He seemed slightly surprised.
"Gray, I have spent all my life watching as people stared at me. Somewhere along the line I began to understand what each look meant. You were making an inference of what I might like based on what you already know about me and my personality." She stated.
Gray blinked a few times. "Wow, I'm impressed. That's not something many people can do."
"I'm not like many people." She smiled slightly.
"I am coming to learn that."He laughed lightly.
The lady who had asked for what they had wanted before returned only this time with things that smelled absolutely heavenly to Lucy.
"For you Gray, Black coffee, one spoon of sugar and a scone. And for the lady, coffee with four spoons of sugar and a glazed doughnut." She smirked as she placed them down in front of her.
There was a drink and a piece of food. The "coffee" was a light brown liquid it a glass cup with a handle. The "doughnut" was a circular bread like food, a clear glaze painted over the top.
"Careful, the coffee will be hot. I suggest eating the doughnut first." Gray smiled as he nodded towards the pastry.
Lucy picked it up with her hands and took a bit out of the side. Her teeth fell right through the bread as she pulled away a piece. It was warm and seemed to nearly vanish in her mouth, tasting sweet as well.
" Its utterly fantastic, you Gray Fullbuster are my new all time favorite person!" Lucy grinned.
A shy smile took over Grays face, the small his of a rose color on his cheeks.
