Chapter 2 (Real one)

A/N: Sorry about the wait!!! My aunt got Covid, then I got Covid, then school was annoying and my mental health and motivation said: 'Nope.' and was absolutely horrible for a while there.

But it's finally out and I hope you enjoy!!

-----Sabre's POV----

It had been two weeks since Sabre had returned to the Kingdom, and they had finally finished rebuilding it.
It was Grand Opening day, where the Leaders would introduce the Steves of each Colour to the Kingdom and see whether or not they would like to move in.

Sabre smiled, watching the Colourless Guards and the few workers (Orange, Yellow and Green Steves mainly, but there were a few Red, Blue, Indigo and Violet workers) run around to fix the final touches.

A group of two Indigo Steves and two Violet Steves were hanging up a few rainbow decorations, like banners and posters.
Yellow Steves were running around, pinning some boards up on houses to say that they were open to take.
The Orange Steves were packing up the building equipment and were assisted by the Colourless Guards.
Green and Blue Steves travelled in groups to water the plants around the Kingdom.

Sabre had decided to build a house just outside the Kingdom walls. He didn't know why, it just felt right. Maybe because of past experiences with the threatening notes and graffiti on his walls of his house.

He sighed. Those weird butterflies had kept appearing, but they would fly away if he got close.
It was almost as if they were checking something, or confirming something.

It was weird, but he didn't mind. The butterflies were probably just getting to know that he was there.

Sabre chuckled at the thought.

"Hey Sabre! Can you help us out here?" A voice dragged Sabre out of his thoughts, and he looked over to see Time and M standing a few paces away, both holding piles of books that looked like they were going to overflow.

"Sure!" Sabre got up and ran over to them, ignoring the startled white butterfly that fluttered out of a nearby flower bush as he moved.

He slowed as he approached them, carefully grabbing some of M's pile of books without knocking the others over.
Then he took some off Time's pile.

Now they had about an even amount, and Time looked at Sabre with a thankful smile.
"We're going to take these to the Outpost." Time glanced towards the gate at the front of the Kingdom.

The Outpost had been built in the middle of the forest near the Kingdom, as a little outlook.
Light and the other Leaders were still worried that some new villain would show up so they had all the normal defences for something like Darkness or Sol.

Sabre nodded and started heading over, followed closely behind by Time and M.

Once they reached there, a Colourless Guard answered the door (that Sabre had strained to knock on without dropping the books) and they were let inside.

"Where do you want these?" M asked, smiling at the Colourless Guard.

"Just in the bookshelves over there, sir." The Colourless Guard pointed to two bookshelves in the corner of the room. They had a few books in them, but it was obviously meant to be filled, "There's no specific order of how they should be placed."

Sabre, M and Time nodded and walked over to the bookshelves.
The three placed their books on a table next to the bookshelves, to make it easier to place them in.

After they had finished packing the books away, they left with a wave to the Colourless Guard that had welcomed them in.

M and Time smiled and waved goodbye to Sabre as they left.

Sabre waved with a smile and then turned to walk forward. He was met with a medium-sized butterfly right in his face.

"Ack!" He jumped back in surprise, not expecting a butterfly.

The butterfly fluttered back a little bit before flying towards him again, flying around his head a couple of times.

"What...?" Sabre was really confused. This was not normal behaviour for a butterfly.

He lifted up a hand and the butterfly quickly landed on it, looking up at Sabre with a slightly tilted head.

Sabre had a sudden feeling of knowing...like he knew this butterfly somehow.

They stared at eachother for a moment, before Sabre decided that he should probably get going.
"See you around, little butterfly." He stepped forward and gently lowered his hand, expecting the butterfly to take off.

Well, it did...but it circled around and landed on his shoulder, folding it's wings and leaning up against his neck.

Sabre froze, surprised by this butterfly's strange behaviour and also not wanting to hurt the little thing if he moved in the wrong way.

"I..." He VERY carefully turned his head ever so slightly to look at it.

It was a pale grey with blue and green spots. It was quite a pretty-looking butterfly, and Sabre knew he hadn't seen it before but he felt like he knew it's species.

He frowned, but then continued on with his normal day. The butterfly didn't leave his side, and as he continued on, Sabre noticed more and more butterflies of the same species just hovering around nearby.

This is really weird...why are they coming around just now?? Why haven't I seen them at the Kingdom before?
It did get destroyed...maybe that's why?? Oh well...

Sabre sighed. Very quickly, about 10 butterflies flew over to him and landed on his shoulders to around his elbows. One landed on his head.

Sabre froze yet again, eyes widening in absolute surprise.

Sabre spotted Time nearby and called out to him. "Time!! Uh...a little help?"

Time spun around, before bursting into laughter. "Haha!! What are they doing there?!"

Time walked over, still laughing. Sabre chuckled awkwardly. "I have no idea. I was just walking when one landed on me...and then the others swarmed over."

"Speaking of swarming..." Time pointed slightly into the distance.

Sabre glanced over and gasped. A huge amount of butterflies were hovering just a couple of metres away.
"What the..."

"Is there a migration or something??" Time suggested, and Sabre nodded.

"Maybe." He shrugged, watching the butterflies fly up, circle around Time a bit, then land back on Sabre.

"So that's why you couldn't get them off. They just fly back to you." Time chuckled.

Two of the butterflies fluttered over to Time and landed on his outstretched hand. Time looked down at them with a soft smile.

All of the butterflies were different sizes, but they all seemed to be around normal butterfly size.

But...in the swarm not too far away, there were a significant number of butterflies in that swarm that seemed way too large for a normal butterfly, even at a far distance.

Sabre shuddered at the thought of gigantic butterflies just towering over him.

"Yeah. They've flown back to me every time I tried to shoo them away." Sabre laughed and Time joined in.

"Hah. Well, that's your problem!" Time jokingly started walking away before turning back with another laugh.

"NO, TIME WAIT!" Sabre called after him, only just managing to yell it out through laughter.

Time and Sabre laughed for a bit, but settled down quickly.

They watched the butterflies for a bit, smiling and chuckling whenever they fluttered around the two.

"So, uh...what do we do? We should get back to helping out soon...and you can't really walk around with a bunch of butterflies on you." Time shrugged questioningly. There was a butterfly on his head that fluttered away in slight alarm, but came back a bit after.

"Uhm...I don't know." Sabre smiled awkwardly.
He stepped forward and the butterflies stayed on him. (Well, one or two fluttered off but then landed again)
"Hey, guys, I'm sorry but can you please leave for a bit? You're quite fun but I've got important things to do."

The butterflies hesitated, as if contemplating what to do. Some even looked like they were talking to eachother, discussing whether to move or not.

Then two of them flew away, and soon the rest of them followed.
They left to the large swarm and re-joined it.
The swarm didn't leave, but they seemed to disperse a bit.

Sabre smiled, and turned back to the Kingdom to help with the finishing touches before the opening.
