Chapter 18: Puppet
-Do not give your past the power to define your future-
"I'm taking it that people died." I
answered Morgan, my tone becoming serious.
"Yes, 42 died and 59 injured." She replied solemnly.
"That's awful."
Death just claimed his next victims.

After telling Nate, he called his brother and mum and told them what happened. Surly it had to be a coincidence. We had to ditch going to the cinema, as we missed the movie.
After returning to my dorm, Morgan greeted me with a huge hug and a cup of hot chocolate.
"I thought you were dead!" She exclaimed, running her hand through her auburn hair.
"Tell me why you didn't take that train Scar, I'm so happy you didn't!" She said, only tightening the hug.
I felt shaky, anxious and confused about the whole incident, i knew the secret about death, I knew what would happen next. Of course people die every day but when it nearly happens to you, it's difficult to process, even after all those years.
Something was wrong, I could feel it in my bones, a strong gut feeling left me feeling uneasy.
I spent the evening watching movies with Nate and Morgan, but the tense atmosphere didn't do much to calm the feelings that were swirling around Nate and I.
➖
I lied awake for hours that night, thinking about how lucky I was. I could hear the wind rushing in the trees outside of the building, the heavy rain splashing down against the window. I was terrified of death, I wasn't scared to admit it, but it was true. I never wanted to die in my first life, nor in any of them and especially not this life.
I could vaguely hear Morgan murmuring something about Macbeth, she repeated the same lines over and over. That told me that she had definitely been revising to much. What I'd have given to escape the continues nightmares, i relived the same pain, the same suffering every night.
➖
Sunday morning came and went and before I knew it, I had been dragged out of bed by one sad looking Morgan.
"Ok we are all miserable, but we are going to watch Nate's basketball game." She pouted, giving me her best puppy dog eyes and a huge grin.
"Please."
"For Nate?" She smiled, watching as I nodded.
"For Nate." I said, getting up from my bed to go and take a shower.
"It's in an hour." She added, before scribbling over a piece of geography homework.
"What was that for?" I mumbled.
"Geography is stupid anyway." She replied.
I walked to the girls bathroom, which was just down the hall from our dorm. I took a quick shower, while once again thinking over yesterday's troubles.
The warm water dripped down my skin, as I rubbed the cherry shampoo into my hair. I wasn't bothered about shaving, as I had the morning before and what was the point when I would be wearing long sleeves anyway.
I stared at the sharp razor blade which sat on the shelf, along with my shampoo, hairbrush and soap. Of course I had thought about ending all the pain and suffering, but it would never truly end, I'd just be forced to play another of deaths puppets. I rinsed the soap and shampoo from my body grabbed my towel and got out.
The walk to the sports hall was quiet and peaceful, as was my mood. The staring hadn't stopped, I was still considered the broken girl, I hadn't always been though.
Morgan and I passed by a group of teenagers around our age, who were laughing and smiling while tossing a basketball to each other. They looked care free and were not to worried about their impending dooms.
The sports hall wasn't anything special, just a building. It had a deck leading up to it, which was on a kind of balcony.
We walked into the reception area which was quite big and had circle windows where you could look down into the sports hall. There were a few chairs and a small coffee table, it had the same kind of layout as a doctors surgery waiting room.
"Oh look there's Nate." Morgan smiled, waving to the messy blonde haired sixteen year old.
For a moment, I forgot how young we all were, a few just barley seventeen.
The world of college seemed to come naturally to some students, they easily adapted to living away from home and the new routines. Others seemed to have different opinions and either treated it like high school or university. The more than a few students who thought that they were the next Rihanna's and Katy Perry's were out partying weekly if not daily.
Nate was wearing a red, black and white shirt with the school logo on and a pair of black shorts. He was tall and wasn't really muscular, but you could tell he had a well built frame, as did his brothers and father.
I nearly turned around and walked back to the dorms when I saw Jasmine, Maddison and Chloe wearing cheerleading outfits.
I also nearly turned back when I saw Cara and a boy who I assumed to be her brother talking to Matt.
When he turned around, I was shocked, I felt like I couldn't move. The same piercing green eyes stared into mine, as I slowly backed away from the situation. It was the man from the train station.
"Hey Scarlett, this is my brother Conor." Cara grinned, pulling him towards me.
"I-I have to um go..." I stuttered, heading for the door.
"Where'd you think you're going?" Maddison smirked blocking my escape.
I felt like a caged bird, I was trapped between the man who had saved mine and Nate's lives and the bitchiest girl I have ever met. I looked over at Morgan who was happily joining in a conversation with a girl who she recognised from her Music class.
I looked to Clara and Conor who were both smiling at me, while having a quiet conversation.
Maddison stood tauntingly in-front of me and I glanced in Nate's direction, secretly begging him to take me away from the others. He returned my glance with a worried look, before walking over to me.
"Scarlett can you help me with something please?" He asked, gently pulling me away from Maddison, Cara and Conor.
He led me outside to the deck and grasped my arms.
"What's wrong, what-" He was cut of by the voice inside of my head.
The shrill voice of death filled my head and cut of all my other thoughts, leaving me shaky and shocked.
He was angry and that could only mean one thing.
