Prologue
Marinette always thought that she was unstable- in all possible ways.
First would be because of her group of friends that mainly consist of Hufflepuffs (and two from Slytherin). Alya Césaire and Nino Lahiffe are the names of the two Hufflepuffs- and maybe the information of them being in a relationship with one another should be added. It was either Marinette loved being the third wheel or she despised it when it came to snogging. And Merlin, if only you knew how much Alya and Nino would snog. Well, Marinette would think, the Room of Requirement was really made for something...
Second would be her on-and-off hatred and dislike towards that stupid and arrogant blond Gryffindor, Adrien Philippe. My, how much she felt strongly against that boy. It started with him pranking her during their Potions class together back in fifth year- he added another mixture of lavender to her cauldron which caused what she was concocting to blow up and turned her black hair into a dark shade of blue (which she decided to keep instead of changing it back to the original color). But due to her Slytherin pride and reputation, she vowed to never forgive the boy at all cost. Her feelings for the boy were unstable in a sense that there would be times when she would just dislike him for no valid and logical reason or she would totally hate him for something he did- like strutting down the Great Hall at this very moment as he heads to the table for Gryffindors.
The day's just beginning and he just appears to ruin it. Marinette thinks as she rolls her eyes whilst carelessly biting off her toast. Chloé Bourgeois, Marinette's roommate who is also part of Marinette's group of friends, looks at her disgustingly. "Oh Merlin, Marinette. Act like a girl at least for once. You have crumbs all over your uniform, lass." She mutters whilst tossing a napkin to the girl beside her. "Clean yourself."
"I'm just so furious with Philippe's presence in the Great Hall."
Chloé looks at the table for Gryffindors and also sneers. "Tell me about it. He's a piece of-"
"If you continue, I'll take 10 points away from Slytherin." A voice abruptly interrupts Chloé causing her to stop. Both girls look behind their back to see their friend and other roommate, Rose- the ever-so perfect prefect of Slytherins. She looks at both girls with a mischievous smirk playing on her face. "How dare you gossip on the people you hate without me? You better go back to the beginning." Rose takes the vacant seat beside Marinette.
"We were just talking about how Philippe is a piece of-"
"Crap? Yeah, I caught up with that. Aren't all Gryffindors full of crap? All professors love them and they hate us. And I'm like come on! What's there to hate about us? We just aren't rule-abiding students." Rose complains as she plays with her cup of tea.
"And we are rumored to be followers of Hawkmoth." Chloé finishes with a dramatic sigh. "Like as if we'll be stupid enough to join him."
"Indeed." Rose utters, agreeing with Chloé. Marinette instead chooses to stay quiet.
Here's the third point that truly proves that Marinette is an unstable being- her new 'Death-head' mark was starting to cause an itch on her shoulder.
Yes- Marinette decided to follow Lord Hawkmoth without even letting her parents and friends know. She asked the help of another Slytherin as he got his 'Sphinx' mark to accompany her. Their marks depended on their abilities that could help contribute to Lord Hawkmoth's wishes and aspirations for the wizarding world. The 'Bombycoidea' mark was the highest rank of them all, those who have it are those who are capable of performing the darkest of magic. Lord Hawkmoth has it, including his wife, and close family relatives- but he does not have a spawn- a person who could take over him if ever he gets destroyed.
Marinette was not given one of the highest ranks since she was still a student but her knowledge and mastery of non-verbal spells was so vast that she even mastered Occulumency and Legilimency when she was still in her third year.
Lord Hawkmoth did not look scary at all to her when he gave her the mark. Since he is her idol, Marinette looked up at him as a great leader- a person that would change the wizarding community forever. And she had to be part of that great team.
It has been two weeks since she got the mark and it caused a lot of pain on the girl. But she did not complain nor care. She wanted to be a follower thus she took the hard way. The mere thought of people knowing her as one of those who changed the wizarding and muggle society for good blew her mind, and she couldn't wait for it to happen. It has to be now.
Since Marinette could not stop herself from smirking, she decided to hide it by taking a sip from the cup of her morning tea. She just pretended to be attentive with whatever Chloé and Rose were talking about. Maybe they're talking about Chloé's crush, Nathaniel Kurtzberg. Marinette tried to suppress a roll of her eyes. She has always been bothered with the fact that Chloé would never admit her growing feelings of affection for the boy. That guy has been courting her ever since they were second year students, and now people are surprised that Chloé still 'does not feel anything'?
Utter bullshit.
"Oh my gosh, you can't be serious!" Rose exclaims as Marinette starts to seriously catch up with their conversation. "But isn't Hawkmoth the only living being with the 'Bombycoidea' mark?"
Marinette's attention perks up with the sudden topic. Now we're talking business. Marinette thinks. And it's 'LORD Hawkmoth', you imbecile.
"That's what everyone thinks!" Chloé answers. "But I've heard rumors that he has a living relative...who is taking refuge here in Hogwarts." She finishes, her voice getting quieter with every word uttered.
"Why would his relative take refuge?" Marinette asks, entering the conversation. "Wouldn't that relative be powerful? Just with the fact that he or she is connected to Hawkmoth," Marinette internally cringes with the sudden term. She cannot utter the word, 'Lord' in front of them. She cannot let them know that she is now a follower. "That person is one of the most powerful wizards or witches alive."
"I think that person is taking refuge here since we're far away from the ministry. Maybe that person just wants to rest before taking over the world in the near future?" Chloé finishes with a joke.
Rose then shakes her head as she gets a sudden idea. "Or maybe, that person is hiding from his or her only living relative, Hawkmoth." She suggests and such a thought leaves Marinette breathless and restless.
Now Marinette knows her first mission as a follower of Lord Hawkmoth. She has to find out who Lord Hawkmoth's relative is and bring that person back to him- just in time for Lord Hawkmoth to take over the wizarding and muggle world.
And she would kill if she has to.
