Recovery
A/N- song by Twenty One Pilots
Jason's POV
I dream about Kat. I dream that I have my arms wrapped around her as we kiss over and over again, my hands running through her hair and around her waist. Her skin glows, and I practically melt under those warm eyes. When I wake up and find myself alone under the never ending fluorescent lights, I find it hard to breath.
I feel much better than the last time I woke up-- which makes me wonder how long I've been out. My head throbs and the loss of my left eye will take a while to get used to. A pang of grief hits my chest. I'll never be able to see normally again. I'm vulnerable on my left, I'll have to rely on hearing on that side for now on.
Maybe I'll get a badass eyepatch, I think. I have to smile at that.
I don't know how long I've been in bed, but when I stand up, my head swims like I haven't stood up in weeks. Which I probably haven't, come to think of it. My legs feel weaker, and I have to grab on to my IV stand to support myself.
I suddenly remember that they found a way to retrieve Kat's old memories. Excitement flutters through me. I carefully pull out the needle in my arm and slowly walk towards the door, leaning against the wall as I do so.
Just as I'm about to turn the knob of the door, Quinn comes bursting in. It's a bit creepy how she does this on a regular basis. It's like she knows when I'm awake.
She probably watches security cameras.
"Is she okay?" The words spill out desperately.
Quinn smiles, then nods. "It worked."
Quinn doesn't have to say anything else. She turns back around, assuming that I'll follow her. I surprisingly feel pretty good, despite the faint throbbing where my eye used to be and the dizziness from standing up after being asleep for so long.
"Hey, how'd you make me heal so fast?" I ask Quinn. Sure, they have technology beyond what my brain can imagine. But this seems a little too far fetched.
She turns around to face me. "We've recently discovered some new technology. We can heal patients over ten times as fast now. Amazing, isn't it?"
"How?"
"Classified. Don't you want to see your girlfriend?"
"Err... right."
We take a few turns. The corridors seem to stretch on forever. I'm exhausted when we reach the door. Apparently this new technology wasn't able to cure me from my lack of movement for the past few weeks.
"I'll give you two some privacy," Quinn whispers as she opens the door.
"Thanks," I reply.
I find Katerina tucked in bed, asleep. She's curled up in a little ball and lies on her right side. I smile, knowing that she almost always sleeps like this.
I'm about to shake her awake, but stop myself once I notice the deep, dark shadows under her eyes. I wonder how long it's been since she's slept. I decide to sit by her bedside until she wakes up. It takes all the self control I have to not stroke the golden strands of hair out of her face. I can't take the change of waking her up.
