Chocolate Cake

Jason's POV

I stand there dumbfounded, staring after Kat who seems to completely lost it. I'm not sure which I'm shocked at most - Kat being here or trying to kill me just now.

I wipe the spit off my face and start running after them. "Wait!"

"Jason, give us a moment. You can see her once she's calmed down a bit," Quinn says.

I nod and shove my trembling hands in my pockets. Kat is still glaring at me, full on hatred in her eyes. I don't care, I've missed her so much that the very sight of her overjoys me.

My hands ball up into fists. They did this to her. She looks even worse than she did last time I saw her. I don't care if I have Kat here or not, The Walls can't get away with this. I won't let them.

I wait for an hour and a half, my knee bouncing up and down frantically as I sit. Quinn walks in. "You can see her now."

I jump up. "Thank you."

We walk down the corridors quietly. Quinn seems to be unable go be in a moment of silence for very long. "Who is she?"

"Her name's Katerina. The Walls did this to her, she didn't used to be like this."

Kind of a lie. When Kat hates someone, she really hates someone. Except now she hates me.

"How are you so close to one who is a part of The Walls?"

I smile. "It's a long story."

We walk into a room I haven't been in before. I see Kat, behind plexiglas and in a strait jacket.

"We've put high sedatives in her, much like the gas we knocked her out with before. But her immune system has already identified it. The only thing it does now is calm her and she can't move very easily," Quinn explains.

I put my hand on the plexiglas. "Can I go in? She can't hurt me."

Quinn sighs. "Usually I wouldn't allow it, but I suppose."

The barrier slides into the ceiling and closes once I walk into it. Kat sits there, supporting her wait on a wall.

"Come here to kill me?" She slurs.

"I missed you," I answer.

"I don't know you."

"Yes you do."

I wrap her in my arms and hold her there. I hear her breath catch, but she's helpless and lies in my arms limp.

"Don't touch me," Katerina growls. She flinches a little, probably an instinct because of all the torture and suffering she's been through.

"I know you're somewhere in there. I'll find it, I don't care how long it takes."

"Yeah, okay. Sure. I might consider sparing your life if you help me escape," Kat says.

"I'll drop by in a bit, okay?"

She manages to grab on to my hand. Her teeth are gritted. "You know what they're going to do to me, right?"

"No one's going to torture you ever again. I'll make sure of that."

Kat grimaces in confusion. "Again?" She echoes.

My chest aches when I walk away. It's heartbreaking to see how much pain Kat is in. She looks lost. They've messed with her brain and body so much that she's pretty jacked up.

"How romantic," Naomi sneers as I pass by her.

"I thought I told you to fuck off," I retort.

She doesn't say anything after that, seeing it pointless. Good choice. I decide to follow her to dinner, even though I don't feel like eating.

"Jason, you gotta check this out!" Patrick says. I follow him to his table. He holds up his plate.

I wrinkle my nose. "What the hell is it? It's... brown."

"Chocolate cake. Probably the best thing I've ever tasted in my life. It even beats bacon."

"It looks like shit."

"And tastes like heaven."

"How do you know what heaven tastes like?"

"If it's better than bacon, then I'm pretty sure it's a close bet."

I shrug. "Fair enough."

Patrick is right. Imprisoned here or not, things are starting to look up.
