A Kiss
Jason's POV
She's completely clueless! Stupid sometimes, even! I thought it was clear. I thought she knew and she had accepted it. There's some things that don't need to be said with words.
I probably should've used words this time.
But I can't blame her either. Inside The Walls, there's no such thing as love. They don't even reproduce in there. Babies are created in labs. The ones that aren't absolutely perfect from their appearance or immune systems are thrown out and left to die. I've seen it. Kat has no idea how horrible they are. She doesn't know how cruel the world is.
Why? Because they shield them from anything that may lead to lust, greed, jealousy, or to rage. They're just a bunch of children in there, oblivious to everything.
I kick a rock. I want to scream and hit something. I'm far enough away from camp where the couldn't here me. I begin to ball my fist up and target a tree.
"Jason..."
My hand goes limp. I swivel my body around to find Kat standing there, Blue sitting at her feet. The sun glimmers on her hair, practically glowing.
I shove my hands in my pockets. "What is it?"
Kat walks closer. She wrings her hands, something I've seen her do when she's nervous. "I- I wanted to apologize. I don't know your ways around here, even if I've stayed for quite some time. Please don't be ang--"
It all happened in an instant. I don't know why I did it. I couldn't help myself. She's so beautiful, and I couldn't stand it that she was actually apologizing to me.
I kiss her.
Kat pulls away at first, utterly confused by the gesture. It just occurred to me she might not know what a kiss is.
"What was that?" She asks, more curious than weirded out.
But it's contrary to human nature not to desire it. Kissing isn't something that someone just decided to do in primitive times. It's instinctive, no matter how much the government inside The Walls has brainwashed you.
"Its called a kiss. Something people do to show someone they like them. But more than like. They like them in a different way," I stammer.
She tilts her head slightly. "You mean they chose them?"
I chuckle. "Yeah, 'chose' them."
She takes a big step towards me, smiling. "I like that."
I suddenly feel my hands tremble. She's staring at me, directly into my eyes. She's expecting something.
The moment is perfect. Alone, the birds chirping in the branches. The air suddenly seems to get much warmer. Blood pounds in my ears. Can she hear my frantically beating heart? I try to control my breathing.
I take a deep breath. "E- ever since I met you, things changed. I don't know how to explain it exactly, but--"
She laughs a little. Her dainty like nose presses into mine as our lips touch. Suddenly, all the background noise muffles as I lose myself in her soft, full lips.
