No One POV:

"Drop us from the program?! That means we can never become a ninja! You said if we couldn't get the bells we would go back to the Academy! You can't change your mind and kick us out! Why would you do that?!" 

Naruto screamed, kicking his feet while he was tied up to the pole.

"I'm sorry Naruto, but unfortunately he can do that," Y/n said softly. He also couldn't believe what was happening as well. The three of them not only can't become a ninja but they also can't go to the Academy. 

Though he realizes that he said three, not four, so who's the safe one?

"Because you don't think like a ninja. You think like little kids. Like brats." Kakashi stated. Sasuke narrowed his eyes and charge at his sensei.

Y/n didn't have enough time to react when he now see that Kakashi had pinned Sasuke down in an instant.

"You think it's all about you." Kakashi continued as if nothing was happening to him and as if he was not sitting on thirteen-year-old Genin. Sasuke's struggled to get out of the grip he's in.

"Let go of Sasuke right now! How dare you sit on him like some bug!" Sakura screamed at him. 

Kakashi turned at them as he glared a bit. "You don't know what it means to be a ninja. You think this is a game huh?" Kakashi demanded, his voice is like as if he was about to reach a venom-style tone, "Why do you think we put you on a squad? Did that cross your mind for a moment?"

"I don't know what you mean!" Sakura answered being hopeless. 

Y/n couldn't believe what was going on, this whole thing is going crazy. Even though he's not a fan of Sakura he knows that he has good grades and has some good knowledge, yet she can't figure out why the test was set up and why there's a squad?

"I mean...you never saw the true meaning of this exercise! Not even close!" Kakashi said. "What it's about?" Naruto asks. "Yes, what determines whether you pass or fail," Kakashi answered. "I mean...I wanted to know-"

"It's teamwork."

They all turn to Y/n as he looks up at them and repeated what he said, "The whole test was about teamwork." All three of them look shocked. 

"...Just working together. Is that what you mean?" Sakura slowly asks.

Kakashi rolled his eyes. "That's exactly what he means. Too late now, if all four of you work together and came at me, Y/n wouldn't be able to almost grab the bell."

"Wait but Y/n didn't get the bell so how come he gets to pass!" Sakura yelled getting mad. "You also set the exercise up with four people, but with three bells! If we were to work together to take them, only three of us could keep one, it would leave us to a conflict!"

"Exactly, I purposely pitted you against each other. I wanted to see if you would overcome that fact. But no... it never even crossed your minds." Kakashi said with anger in his voice, "Sakura! You are obsessed with Sasuke, who was gone, while you did absolutely nothing to help your OTHER teammate. Even after Y/n saved you, you abandoned him in an attempt to find Sasuke again!"

Sakura looked down in shame.

"Naruto! You did everything alone. Everything. You even rejected your best friend's help!" Kakashi move on to Naruto with a glare, he looked taken back.

Kakashi turned his glare to Sasuke. "And you Sasuke thought the others were so far beneath you that they were worthless. Arrogance," He hissed, putting so much venom into his words.

"Meanwhile for Y/n. Though he didn't take the bell he was the closest out of everyone. He even knew the whole meaning of the test! He asks every one of you guys to team up against me...but none of you guys didn't. That's why he passes and it's officially a ninja." Kakashi said but there was a small amount of appreciation to Y/n.

"Missions are meant to be carried out in squads, and Genin are supposed to have a natural feel for teamwork, but the three of you never even thought about it! Failure to work together could lead to the mission being compromised, and death! For example," Kakashi whipped out a kunai and placed his weapon on Sasuke's neck. "Sakura! Kill Naruto now or Sasuke dies! Y/n! Kill them both if Sakura doesn't do it!"

Y/n's eyes widen as he was taken back from it. Naruto and Sakura started panicking immediately, even Sasuke look alarmed.

"That's what happens on a mission. You place yourself above your teammates, someone will end up dead." He put his weapon away and got off of Sasuke, who groaned slightly in relief.

Kakashi walked over to the memorial stone. "Did you take a closer look at this stone? What's written on it? It is engraved with the names of heroes of our village."

Y/n joined him by the stone, casting his gaze over all of the names. There are so many fallen ones and so many people lost so easily...

"Oh! That's it! Now I know!" Naruto exclaimed. "I decided that I want my name on that stone! I'm not going to live for anything and die like a dog! I'm going to be a hero! A hero!"

"Naruto," Y/n's voice sounds stern with some sadness but also some seriousness. "Please don't ever say something like that. I promise that I'll do everything to make sure you never get your name written on it."

"Huh? Why?" Naruto asked. "They are all... K. I. A," Kakashi said slowly. 

"Oh! That sounds so cool!" Naruto said excitedly. 

Y/n clenched his fist hard as he turns to Naruto, "Naruto they're dead, K. I. A. stands for 'Killed in Action."

Naruto's face dropped and he suddenly become very solemn. "This is a memorial stone. The names of my closest friends are marked here." Kakashi said sadly. 

Y/n sees that Kakashi's eyes are trailing two individuals.

Nohara Rin

Y/n's eyes widen as he heard about them. Those two were his partners...

Y/n clench his lips and move his head to Kakashi's shoulders. In these types of situations, he doesn't want to make things awkward, but he also wants to comfort someone. 

It seems to work as Kakashi gave him a sad 'smile', even though Y/n can't see it, he can feel it. After a few moments, Kakashi spoke up again.

"Alright. I'll give you one last chance. But I'm gonna make it much harder on you. You have half an hour to get a bell. Eat now to build up strength. But... Naruto doesn't get any." Kakashi explained. 

Naruto made a sound of protest at how unfair he's in.

"It's a punishment for trying to eat by yourself. And... if anyone tries to feed him, that person will automatically fail. I make the rules, you follow them." Kakashi said in a serious tone to them, "This includes you Y/n." 

After that, he disappears. Naruto's stomach was getting louder than how it was in the morning.

"This is no big deal! I can go without eating for days! For weeks! Believe it! This is no big deal!" Naruto declared before his stomach started to rumble again, "No problem..."

Y/n stared at his lunch and look back at Naruto. He got closer to Naruto, "Here Naruto, you need to eat."

"What? Y/n you idiot, you heard what Kakashi said!" Sakura protested, looking around as if Kakashi would pop out at any moment.

"Kakashi-Sensei is gone." Sasuke spoke up making Y/n surprised, "We need to get those bells as a team. If Naruto's hungry he'll be weak and ineffective. That hurts the team."

"He's right. We all need strength including you Naruto. So, with that, it's time to eat." Y/n said. Sakura held out her lunch but was hesitant about it.

"But that's your lunch!" Naruto said with concern. "It's fine, no need to worry. You need this more than I do." Y/n started to pick up his chopsticks, "Since you can't move your arms well, I'll have to feed you. Is that okay?"

Unknown to them Sasuke was glaring at Naruto and Sakura is glaring at Y/n because she thinks that he was trying to get Sasuke's attention.

Naruto grinned. "Yeah, it's fine, believe it!" 

Picking up a clump of rice, Y/n raised his chopsticks towards Naruto's mouth so he can be able to eat it.

As soon as he did, Kakashi appeared in a swirl of leaves. "Yooouu!" He yelled. 

The four of them jump as they are now greeted by the sensei.

"You broke the rules. I hope you're ready for your punishment!" Kakashi said, summoning a huge thunderstorm. 

Lightning started flashing between the clouds. "Any last words?"

Y/n started to rush in front of his team. "If we're going down, then we're going down as a team!"

"Y/n's right. We're all on this squad, and we're on it together!" Sasuke backed him up, hand drifting into his kunai.

"Yeah! That's why we gave our lunch to him! Because the four of us are one!" Sakura chimes in after a small hesitation.

"Yeah! Yeah! Believe it! That's right!" Naruto added while he was kicking his feet.

"The four of you are one? That's your excuse?" Kakashi demanded, then he smiled. "You pass."

"Huh?" The four of them were questioned. "You. Pass," Kakashi repeated.

"Pass? How did we pass?" Sakura asked. 

"You're the first whoever succeeded. The others all did exactly as I said and fell into every trap. Those who break the rules are scum, that's true but..."

"Those who abandon their friends are worse than scum," Kakashi said. "You know... he's... kinda... cool," Naruto said with tears coming out.

"The test is over. Everyone passes! Squad 7 will get its first assignment tomorrow!" Kakashi declared, flashing a thumbs up to them.

"Yes!" Sakura cheered. Sasuke smirked in satisfaction. 

"I did it! I'm a ninja! Ninja! Ninja!" Naruto cried happily.

Y/n smiled and cheered. He went to the group and hug them. 

The three of them were shocked but they all laugh when Y/n realize what he did making his face red and apologized multiple times.

Kakashi smiled. "Alright, how about we go out to eat as a celebration." 

The others agree and go out. Ignoring the jumping tied up ninja.

"Wait! I'm still tied up!" Naruto shouted.

Y/n turned and realize it. He ran to Naruto and cut the rope with his sword. "Alright! Let's go!"

The two of them ran after their team, and at that moment, they were carefree.
