                                                         First Person POV

I took a deep breath and pulled away from Hilda's grasp, holding my hands up to keep her from lashing out at Mugman.

"I want to listen to him Hilda... Stay calm, okay?" I asked her, smiling softly at her. Hilda's eyes were wide, but she reluctantly lowered her arms, keeping a harsh glare on Mugman. I took a step towards Mugman and took a deep breath to keep myself from crying or hitting him.

"You have five minutes to explain," I told him, preparing myself to cry. Mugman nodded and took a deep breath, as if he was trying to figure out a way to tell a long story in five short minutes.

"Okay, long story short, my brother made a risky gamble, one roll, we either lose our souls or get the Devil's fortune in his casino. We ended up losing, and the only way for us to save our souls is to collect the Soul Contracts from debtors like Hilda and Cagney. We're not planning on turning them in! Elder Kettle told us we're getting stronger, so we might be able to defeat the Devil once we show up to deliver the contracts. The only way we'll be able to approach him once we have all the contracts, but we aren't turning them in, no matter what," Mugman explained, taking a deep breath afterwards from speaking so quickly.

My brain exploded, blinking multiple times in confusion and trying to process what was just said. So... Basically, he and his brother are only doing this to save themselves, and then are going to save everyone else? My anger and hurt in my heart started to heal itself, taking a deep breath to calm myself down. I glanced quickly at Hilda's direction, and her expression was one of shock and aw, almost as if she hadn't expected such a lengthy and noble explanation told in less than three minutes. I smiled and walked over to Mugman, pulling him into a tight hug, and it seemed as if he tensed up in surprise.

"Thanks for explaining, I was expecting much, much worse," I explained, smiling brightly and blushing light. I felt his muscles relax and felt him hug me back, small drops of water dropping onto my shirt. Why was he crying?

"Thank goodness... I didn't want anyone else to hate me... I'm so happy you understand," he stated between sniffles and small hiccups. My heart swelled up a couple sizes, and I blushed lightly. He was such a sweet guy, and he doesn't make me super freaking nervous. I took a deep breath and kissed his cheek, my blush getting worse. Mugman tensed again and started to giggle, picking me up and spinning me all of a sudden. My eyes widened and I laughed, closing my eyes in enjoyment. After a couple minutes, he set me down, smiling.

"I-I gotta go, we have till midnight tomorrow, but I will visit you once we're done!" he promised, smiling and waving before dashing out the door. I blushed lightly and smiled, spinning in a circle and falling onto the couch. I blinked and looked at Hilda's expression. She looked pained, but she smiled at me.

"Alright hun, you can stay here as long as you want, okay? I... I need some sleep. Help yourself to whatever you want," she sighed, before walking off to go sleep in her room. She looked hurt. Very hurt.

Did I make the right choice?
