Chapter 5
My stomach was flipping and the food I took for lunch was wheel carting. It's about everytime I was about to take a new job the profound anxiety sets its way back in. For the nth time I swept my hands on my jeans while waiting for Wren to pick me up.
After his phone call two days before, I allowed myself a day for the prep talk. I wasn't the type to face the world with free mind and flow words. I get sweaty thinking about settling in a new place though I would be lot more comfortable after I was in there, the initial stages were difficult regardless of many jobs I had taken in my life.
"Hey", the familiar brown eyes greeted me. I threw him a nervous hi. While I would've enjoyed a nice coffee with my friend, I was in serious case of anxiety. Like if a sip of water goes in , I would throw up.
"You ready". I nodded my head in response and followed him to his car. The ride was silent and nerve-wrecking on my part. When I asked him about the job details, he said it was care taking job and the pay was good. Wren called me as soon as he heard about the need for his family friend who also stayed in the same neighborhood.
"You're gonna be alright, Amy. Stop over thinking", Wren tapped my thighs. I relaxed myself over his words. I was gonna be alright. Wren had my back and I was not going for jail, just a job. I had to go there, give my best and grab my job. I had bills to pay and people to save.
By the time we entered the gates- what I consider a mansion- all by confidence flew out of the window. I had never seen a place like this. I had been to Wren's place a few times but I bet this was three times bigger.
After entering the gates, there was small trail leading the huge mansion. When we park in the driveway, immediately note how beautiful the house was. It was large, two floors, maybe three, and the front yard was beautiful. The entrance had a standard porch with a bench swing and it looked like a classic embodiment of a perfect home.
Wren lead me the way to door, I immediately heard a woman shouting at others. Probably giving out orders. I sighed to myself. Not another arrogant employer. I had my fair share of those in my life and it wasn't pleasant.
The woman snapped her towards the door when Wren cleared his throat. The tense lines immediately disappeared and was replaced with a small smile.
"Hey Sweetie". By the way Wren tensed beside me, I knew he didn't like the endearment. If I wasn't nervous I would've cringed the way she called him. We walked inside the house my eyes wandered around the marvelous living room with a grand sofa in the middle and the staircase that climbed up. The beige color perfectly blend the sunlight hitting at the right places was picturesque.
I didn't let my eyes wander too much and averted my gaze the woman. She was talking to Wren. Overall, she was beautiful with muddy blonde eyes, perfect body shape but the dominant aura was spread hers.
My stomach dropped when she snapped her towards me, clearly after Wren talking about me that I missed. She return my smile and the familiar look took over. She looked at me from head to toe and the look of disgust never left her.
Try being poor woman.
"Are you sure she's the one? ", the sharp words were making me feel small. Wren nodded and looked at me with a smile.
"I'm surprised you are friends with these kind of people". Oh, her manners was fucking awesome. She didn't even ask my name but was rude enough to talk about me like that. I dig my fingers deep into my palm and bit my tongue from putting the woman at her place.
The anger was seething inside. I had to recite Maria's name to get my breathing under control.
"She's the best friend I could ask for and the most suitable candidate for the job". The words spread some warmth through my chest. I had never heard talk about me like that and I was very proud when he defended me.
"Okay", she clipped and extended her hand. I handed my file to her. She strut back to the couch with us following behind. I stood at the corner of the sofa while she went through the documents. In a second.
"So, Amara Freyrer"
"Yes mam"
"Wren here trusts you with this job. I am giving you the chance. Only once. One mistake you are out of the property. I want you to be punctual and do as you are told. Never indulge in gossip with other maids. Do your work and leave the place as your work is done. Don't wander around the house. Don't touch unnecessary things. Don't try to pry information. Don't eavesdrop. Last, Don't snitch. If I heard a thing that happens in this building, outside or I came to know that the reporters had intel from inside, you are done for"
She finally breathed and stood straight. I didn't even realize her walking up to me. My heart was thundering by the way she said those last words like she would kill me if I had opened my mouth. I would be last person for people to doubt to work here.
"Y..Yes Mam", I wheezed out. She gave me a tight nod and snapped her fingers towards the girl behind her. She scurried with a bowed head.
"Take her to the room"
We all followed the maid to the room. I was grateful that Wren was accompanying me and consoling me along the way. We stood infront of the door and waited for the person inside to open up.
The time was enough for my mind to work again. I knew that I was going to take care of the person and it was the night shift until his assigned nurse came after her leave. Dad was super pissed about the new job and was worried about my night duty but it was only for three months. I didn't mention to Kade knowing about the drama that came with it. Because of that intimidating woman, I didn't get to discuss my pay and what exactly I had to do aid him. I was going to ask for Wren in this to ask her about the payment details. I had the weekly bill to pay at the hospital.
The hand on my shoulder snapped me out of the thoughts and I was staring at the opened door. While I expected to be an old man, I didn't expect the person to be a hot, half-naked green eyed guy who was ready to be eaten.
Did I mention his sexy features taking repulsion?
That was for me.
