Chapter 2

"All the money you've earned will never buy back your soul"

No amount of selling my soul will bring that amount of money.

$60000. $60000?!!!!

My heart was constricting. The confidence that I had a minute was crippling. The amount was too much for a chemo, that meant she was into much shit and I wasn't even aware of it.

My eyes started to burn thinking about Kade. Life was unfair to him, he deserved a normal livelihood where he could party and hangout with friends on weekends and not work in shifts to support his ailing mother.

"Shh", he whispered. The ability of his to smile in the situation was truly astounding. As pathetic as it was ,I cried when I found my mother ran away, at least I knew she was alive.

"We will figure something out", my scratchy voice reassured as I took a deep breathe. He nodded with me. He was gonna put up a fight with me for it but I was stronger and more stubborn bitch than him.

Kade dropped me at college and the weather was gloomy. Things were bound to happen when it seemed rainy and thankfully I didn't wear anything on my eyes to worry about when I was going to cry.

Mr. Salvatore- a very look alike of father of Salvatore brothers- was scratching the board with the chalk. The equation went on and on, people started to drift in and out. I was able to solve the problems on my own rather than sit there and listen to his inspiring stories between each problem. Truly Boring. But who would stop him and there was our attendance at stake.

"This guy is giving me grey hairs", Wolf grumbled next to me. I raised my eyebrows with a smug look. Wolf was my bestie since I started college and he stood by me during everything. I liked him a lot except for his cringe flirting style and he was known as the 'go-to' guy outside the circle, which god only knew why. He wasn't even kind with everyone.

"As if you will fail the subjects. You are prodigy, dude", I swat his arm. He smirked at me and leaned back into his chair stretching his arms. I could hear the whimpers from the girls at our back. He was one of the reasons girls wouldn't talk to me now. I swear they thought we slept together

.

"Did it make me more hot?", I scrunched my nose in disgust and turned towards the board. He chuckled next to me and shuffled his bag and was walking out of the room waving the Salvatore.

"So what's wrong?", Wren questioned as soon as I sat with him. Wolf leaned over the table to look a close look at me while I gave my blank face to him.

"There's nothing wrong with her", Wolf dismissed him after as I would say a critical analysis. Wren just shook his head in disbelief.

"What's wrong, Amy?", my personal psychiatrist asked me. I looked at him in his eyes and sighed at my defeat. Why the hell did I allow people to read me?

"It's Kade..", the heads turned towards as I told about Marie and amount that cost to save her.

"I can help you with that", Wren offered. He was a rich and surprisingly nice guy. He lived in the downtown area of North Carolina. At first, it was unsettling to see him come talk to me. I had this strong opinion that he wanted to sleep with me or humiliate me. That's what most rich guys did. But as time went by I saw the genuine care and soft heart he had. I was happy that I restrained myself from squirting ketchup at his face. Which exactly I did when Wolf flirted with me for the first time.

I shook my head. "I need a job".

"No big deal, Ams. You are my best friend. I will help you."

There was always money that created a rift between relationships and my independent ass would bleed before I asked for help. The amount was huge and every delay would make him anxious. I was going to pay him back so it was better I found a job.

" I know and I appreciate it a lot but I want a job. It's for myself. Please try to understand"

Wren withdrew quickly and Wolf was looking at me weirdly.

"What?", I quipped at him.

He shook his head out of daze, "When you talk like that, you seem different?"

"Different?"

"Yeah, like a responsible ass"

I smiled at his stupidity.

"I am a responsible ass"

He scoffed and rolled his eyes while sipping the coffee.

"I know right"

"I will ask around for the jobs", Wren interrupted me before I threw a F bomb on Wolf.

"Thanks Wren"

"Thanks Wren", Wolf imitated me in a squeaky voice. He was going to get his ass beaten but I was just making sure he was getting it now. I threw the tissues at his face and rounded the table next to him. I grabbed him phone and took a flight.

Wolf was running behind me and the entire street was looking at us. I opened his phone and facetimed his cheater ex. As soon as she picked the class, I turned around and shoved the front camera in Wolf's face

"Hey Baby", a high pitched voice shouted. "Wolf misses you", I said to the phone still keeping the camera to his face. I didn't what he saw but his eyes widened and lips curled in disgust as he plucked the phone out of my hand and ended the call

"She.. She". Now I had a fair idea of what happened. She would undress infront of him to get him back. Like seriously, he was a guy and he reacted with dick. He used her and she still believed it was his naive love for her even after she cheated on him.

"I know right. That was for riling me up. Next time, I am writing love letter to her with your name and I will make sure she cries for your love", I said panting from all the running.

"Please don't. I really wish you had a ex"

"Right", I rolled my eyes. Wren parked his vehicle behind us and I could see our bags in the backseat. We both raced to the passenger seat and Wolf being the gentleman pushed me to the back seat.

"So where are we going?", I asked keeping my self in between the two seats.

"To Infinity and Beyond", Wolf cooed. My phone dinged when I was about to retort at him.

"Cramps".

My stomach dropped. I tapped the front seat frivolously. Kade sent the secret code we kept for ourselves incase of emergencies. It started with headache, for do not disturb me and went on from there. Stomach ache was for a difficult situation and need help. He came with the term cramps after seeing being on my periods. Cramps became the life or death situation and code fucking blue.

"Hospital hospital", I didn't I was shouting until Wren asked me shut it. He was driving a little fast and sure was gonna have one or two tickets but this was emergency.

All the way along, I prayed that nothing had happened to Marie. I was not ready to let her go and I would never be. As soon as he parked I ran. I scurried through the familiar hallways until I reached the board oncology.

"Kade", I shouted seeing him at a distance hunched over in the chair. He lifted his head and looked at me wearily with his puffed eyes.

Please don't die. Please don't die. Please don't die.

I dashed into his arms without a word. His heart was beating frantically and so was mine.

"What happened, man?", Wolf enquired behind me. Kade looked down at me with a painful look. God, he wanted me to care for him this much.

"She had an attack all of a sudden and they took her to the ICU", he whimpered thinking about his mother. Marie was his anchor to this world. He kept going to show her that he could do anything for her and would give her a life that her husband couldn't give it.

She was his motivation and biggest supporter.

Wolf and Wren sat with us until midnight and went around midnight leaving us both alone. They bought us food and we ate in silence.

"She was talking fine and then all of a sudden her body was jerking like possessed. She couldn't hear me. I was screaming, crying and begging her. I didn't know what happened", he choked. He put his head on his palms to stop his tears from escaping.

"Everything will be alright", I put my hands on his shoulders. He swatted them away and looked me in rage.

"Alright? No, I don't want alright, okay? I want good and better", he yelled at me. I kept my breathing steady knowing it was his way of coping. When he came down from his anger he apologized for it.

"She.. She", he cleared his throat, " Her eyes were open when they took her to ICU. Like ghostly open, she wouldn't blink"

My chest was tightening at his words. I couldn't stop the tears. She was alive but we never knew the reason for this attack or whatever they called it.

"I am scared", I admitted for the first time ever since we found out about her cancer. Kade put his arms around me and pulled me to him. I hugged his waist from the side and put my head on his chest.

"I am scared too", Kade said in a weak tone
