Happy Sad

A/N: This chapter too way too long. Like I just did not know how to do this chapter. But here it is.

Step one, completed. Step two on its way.

Rhys remembers when he got his license. He had turned sixteen just the month prior. Ming Lee, being his biggest supporter, was waiting at the DMV for him. He could remember how nervous he was. Driving always made him nervous. Like spiders were crawling up his back and he couldn't see if they were poisonous. As the many things Rhys did in his life, he got his license because it was expected of him. He supposed at the time it was one of the qualms of being in a wealthy family. High expectations of grandeur. To uphold the image that he and the other wealthy boys his age are forced to conform to .

Rhys suppose this is the one thing he can keep from those old beliefs. Rhys held the wheel of the RV tightly as he maneuvered the car throughout the traffic. Rhys should have accounted for that but it is in the past.

"Daddy, the body is leaking.", Eli says with a scrunched nose. "It moves like a dead fish."

"That's because he is dead, sweetie.", Rhys says and adjusts his rear-view mirror. "Eli please don't let your sister touch the carcass."

"Yes Daddy!", Eli says with a nod and scoops up a curious Lee from her mixed with deceased man juice.

Rhys sighs. He most definitely has to get rid of this van. It's too big and has a very criminal future crime scene. He would blow this stupid van up. Blow up into flames with the terrible memories along with it. Nevertheless, it is getting the job half way done.

'Think Rhys. Where can I hide a murder scene.', Rhys thought bitterly to himself. So much to do and so little time.

Coming up to an overgrown abandoned gas station, Rhys takes his chances and turns in. With a crowd of shrubbery as cover he turns off the engine of the tucked RV.

Feet left dancing on hot asphalt.

“C’mon Lee, don’t worry about the shoes hun.”, Rhys says, lifting her down.

Lee clings to her father’s shoulder in confusion. Her little two year old brain was not grasping how the world around her swirled in circles around her. Just today she dreamt of cuddly bears like the ones her father read to her about. A large burly male would approach her - the biggest of them all- and she felt safe wrapped in a big bear hug.  She lays her puzzled head on the only shoulder she can remember. Despite its comforting feel, the warm embrace of her father still was not as comfy as the one that held her ever so gently in her dreams.

Sweat drips down the back of Rhys' neck. His mouth felt dry as the pavement on a hot summer day. If he had to count the amount of thoughts swirling around in his head, he would be in this parking lot until thy kingdom comes. The small family trekked down the empty street. Any passersby who would take a glance at the odd group would send a tracking eye their way.

'No need to stare…' Rhys thinks and picks up his pace.

Suddenly, the sound of gravel  crunching slowly beneath a tire, draws the group's attention to a very familiar face.

"Rhys! Is that you!" Hector says in utter astonishment. "And you're alive! Dios mio! Fíjate! Look at you!".

Hector pressed the break with a squeak and flung himself out of the car. He takes the red head into a gripping hug.

"I can't believe it's you! And look at the cub! All grown up now! Oh Rhys, I heard of your disappearance and….wow it's amazing you are here and alive."

"It's a wonder I managed….but I'm glad you found me. Like, I …I just don't know what to say.", Rhys says, holding his chest with his free hand.

"Ay…Rhys no tears. This is good. Wonderfully good! We need to get you to the station and say you have been found!"  Hector continues.

A small grimace comes to Rhys' face. Hector's eyebrows raised and made a soft noise in thought.

"Maybe not right now but we got to get you out of here.", Hector corrected.

"Hector, I have a big favor to ask you. ", Rhys said.

"Anything, what do you need?"

Hector was puzzled at Rhys' request. Odd one for sure but not outside his reach. Making the long drive down the now packed streets of town as they approach the stadium. Long lines of people in football memorabilia pushing to get in to see their favorite team play.

Pulling up to an empty parking space, Hector helped the small family in the back out. Rhys looked frazzled. Hands shaking a bit while they try to fix the worn clothes that hung on his body. Wobbling breaths being taken in and out.

A soft hand is placed on the red head's trembling shoulder. Hector gives him a soft smile and rubs down his arm.

"I have a sweater in the trunk. Maybe better than this shirt." Hector suggested. He doesn't wait for a response before disappearing into the trunk pulling it out.

Rhys catches the tossed sweater. A buzzing sound like a disconnected phone rings in his ear. Fingertips unfeeling and mouth dry as the Sahara. Not much to say but his mind can't stop whirling around.

"Again with the tears. No more of that okay?" Hector chides.

"I just….thank you so much Hector.", Rhys manages to say.

"Hey, I'm just trying to help, okay? Now hurry. I called my friend earlier and she will be there to open the staff door.", Hector finishes. He hugs Rhys tightly and pushes the family along their path.

Rhys hands Lee down to Eli. Eli needs no instruction on what to do and holds his sister's hand tightly in his own. Just as Hector said, the door was left slightly open for them to slip in. A soft breath slips past his lips as the step two.of the plan finally reaches its end.

Part three, the finale, the most important part of the plan is underway.

Step three,  find Malik.

Hiking up from the service deck below, they make it to the seating area above.

"Should of paid more attention to football than I thought. A time in a puffy suit would be a fair trade to at least knowing where the players would be.", Rhys mutters to himself.

Walking through the still empty pews Rhys couldn't help but look up. The fancy boxes filled with fancy people wearing fancy suits drinking fancy wine with their equally fancy colleagues. A loud sound of laughter directs his attention to a small family of four seated in higher pews. Both parents laughing and playing along with their kids in perfect obliviousness to he who stares in awe. Rhys sighs and a small smile creeps to his lips.

"Hey! You there! Where's your wristband!", a security guard shoots, dragging himself to the family.

Rhys gives a nervous smile, "I'm sorry we may not have gotten them."

"Like I haven't heard that before. Come here, you all are coming with me.", the security grumbled and grabbed Rhys' wrist in a tight pull.

Eli perked up and pounced on the officer's leg. The guard shouts as his teeth sink into the appendage. He flings his leg and kicks off Eli down a few pews. Rhys presses back on the officer's wrist releasing him from his hold and hurries to go to his fallen son's aide.

The guard looks from two on the floor of the pews to Lee. Lee steps back before bursting in a run away from the scene. Tears rushed down her face blocking her vision. A small screech came from her as she stumbled down the lower pews and onto the flat surface. Soft sobs escape her as she rubs her bruised arm.

'Daddy! I want Daddy', She thought, rubbing her tear streaked face.

That's when she saw him. A big tall bear of her dreams. She blinked her confused big eyes up at the equally confused man. She wipes her nose with the back of her hand with a sniff as the scary feelings in her head slip away.

"Ming Lee!"

Daddy! It was Daddy's voice! She whips around quickly for her Daddy only to find daddy frozen in place. Looking back and forth between the two men left her young mind even more confused.

'Why daddy crying? Why that man crying?', she thought.

Slowly they bring themselves together. Something is said she can't quite understand. Her daddy's hand goes to his hair again but the man stops it. His own hands rise and cups her daddy's cheek. Careful thumb strokes, like the ones her daddy gives her, massages her daddy's cheeks. Foreheads touch together like magnets and it was like at the end of a fairy tale.

Lee slowly approached the two leaning close to Rhys. She grips her Daddy's leg tightly. She cast her eyes back to Eli who stopped not too far from the display. Lee has never seen her brother look this way before.

'Brother never freeze. Brother never runs and hugs strangers. Brother never… cries.' She thought. 'Why Eli cry? Why everyone sad?', she continues.

'Maybe they not sad?'

'Maybe they happy?'

'Happy sad?'

Lee touches her moisten face in thought.

'I happy sad too?'

Question: What kind of sibling dynamic would you think Eli and Lee would have.
