Fandom Rant of a Tag

Hello there! It's yet again been a hot second since I've done a tag, but this one is going to be slightly different. I was tagged by PineapplesAndPapes thanks for the tag! If you haven't seen it instead of answering the typical questions she ranted about Star Wars. And for reasons we all know that I am not an interesting person/I've answered the same old questions a billion times I'm going on a fandom rant as well. But instead of souly Star Wars, I will be ranking my pre/younger teen self's early fandoms/things I was obsessed with.  The order of fandoms are from what I remember getting into so...let's see how weird younger Crystal was.

1: Power Rangers

7.2/10

I probably already know what you're thinking. Why? Because my mom said that it was ok for me to watch when I was younger when we first got Netflix. One of the few "teen shows" I watched at...nine or ten. And I still watch it because why not? Definitely did not watch this in order of release but was quick to figure out what out the whole timeline while binging. It was an interesting obsession at the time. Some series I like more than others. I think the reason why most people don't like the show is because of how cheesy it's gotten.

Like the 90s through the early 2000s had more character development while the newer ones barely have that. The only series I think had some character development was Dino Charge and MAYBE Samurai. Anything recent is just meh. (Maybe I'll do a ranking on every show if anyone actually wants to see that). There's more battles and saving the day than there is deeply figuring out the problem. And some of the more recent series just jump right into the whole superhero thing after the first episode. Like they KNOW everything. With MMPR it was slow, we get to see the team shift into their new lives as superhero. Being teleported out of no where to Billy making the communicators etc. Turbo is meh compared to it's brother series and the cast change halfway through kinda ruined it for me. I couldn't finish it for the longest time because it was so weird. Yet I LOVE in Space.

Looking back it was one of my early fandoms. Lowkey was back in the kick of it not long ago. If I were to watch the old shows again I don't think I'd question it because it's nostalgia for me. (Yes I don't have Netflix anymore in case you were wondering).

2: Winx Club

7/10

Oh boy I'll probably get hate for this one. I've only seen the Nickelodeon reboot. I tried watching the other two versions but I couldn't take the voice acting. It honestly made my ears hurt. Sirenix is my favorite! Enchantix is pretty and I love it, but it's beginning to get overrated for me. THERE I SAID IT! The only thing that can redeem myself is that the newer seasons are awful and the Netflix movie looks like some dark teenage angst show with magic. (Not everything needs to have teenage angst! Just saying).

So I was like 10 or 11 when the Nick reboot came out. This aired right before Power Rangers and I was happy, (I miss the simpler times). So this was the first magical show I was obsessed with. There are a few flaws that could've been done differently, but overall I don't have that much to complain about. There were a lot of ships I enjoyed, and cute moments. I really thought I'd sort of have a friend group like the Winx, but here we are.  Hated they killed off Naboo and learned what a toxic relationship looks like.

3: Star Wars

9.8/10

Is this one much of a surprise? Not really. Most people get into this with the originally trilogy from their parents or because they think it's cool. Not me. My dad was not a huge Star Wars fan but has seen the movies. I saw glimpses of it. First memory? Jabba. Yeah. That's all I could remember first time I saw it, and I was falling asleep too. Of course I knew the main characters. Who doesn't though? Yeah so, I got into this from watching Rebels. My dad turned on the TV asked what was on, I said some Star Wars show, we watched it and the rest is history.

Things have changed obviously, I lean towards the Clone Wars now. I like the sequels, though I agree that there are parts that could've been done differently. Expect TLJ. Out of all the movies that's my least favorite. I did enjoy Rise of Skywalker though. I just felt the need to point that out. Not a - trilogy fan, I just like Star Wars in general. I don't go as hard as some fans do. Have you ever heard the saying that nobody hates Star Wars more than Star Wars fans? I feel like that's true when dealing with toxic side of the fandom, which is why I lowkey stay out of the loop of what's happening in more often than not. (And why it's a 9/10). Unless it has to do with the TV shows cause I feel like that part of the fandom is more chill than the movie fans. Speaking of which, some people think Disney ruined Star Wars. I present to you Mando, Grogu, Clone Wars SEASON FREAKING 7 and more shows that are coming. Bad Batch spin off, Obi Wan, The Ashoka series! Just to name a few.

All in all the Star Wars fandom is whack. Star Wars in general I absolutely love!

4: Newsies.

10/10

If this is a surprise then you don't know me at all.

This is the most chill fandom I've been apart of. Made number 8 on Tumblr's year in review in 2019. There's rarely any problems going on within it, and the one I'm most active on. I don't think I need to explain myself on this one very much. The story has been told plenty of times in the past. Between the two movies I lean towards Livsies more, but I still love 92sies just the same. There are so many great characters with an endless possibilities of backstories. I especially love seeing when a writer takes a newsie who was in both movies and mash their personalities together to create this perfect balance. It's rare, but I love seeing people's takes on different characters. Not much else to say about this since I already talk about newsies a lot.

5: Six

6/10 (joke not intended)

So....this one is more recent-ish. I got into this because of Tiktok, but it I ended up loving it more because it's a historic musical of sorts. I got to see it in person when it went on tour so that was really cool. I'm not as obsessed with it as I used to be because things quickly got toxic in the fandom. Unlike Star Wars I don't keep up what's going on anymore since it got tiring after awhile (the toxic part was only a small reason why I don't cheek in). Might've been a phase but I still love the musical.

I think that about covers it for the major fandoms i was strongly apart of. Not tagging anyone in this one but you can totally do it if you want. Reason why is because I got tagged in a 13 things about myself. So yeah, stay tuned for that.
