Chapter 1: Little Rain

Even though they were Yin and Yang, Jay still had a hard time trying to ask Nya to marry him. Sure, she showed that she was more than excited to be his Yang, but marriage was a whole different thing, wasn't it?

Maybe, it was. Maybe, it wasn't.

Technically speaking, Jay only popped the question to Nya in a life-death situation where if he didn't ask at that very moment then there wouldn't be another time to do so. As Kai said so, he really needed to work on his sense of timing. And it was currently peaceful in Ninjago. Really, pretty much a miracle in a way.

They defeated the Overlord a few months ago and Jay — along with Kai, Cole, and Zane — all lost their powers. At first, it was unusual and annoying. At times they forgot that they were powerless and when they tried to use their powers, it didn't work. Only after that did they remember that they sacrificed their powers to the Golden Dragon that destroyed the Overlord.

Back to the topic of proposing- Yes, Jay was planning to propose to Nya. To be husband and wife.

Wow, was it scary to even think of asking. Though he shouldn't worry. He got Nya back, he should be grateful he even has the chance to ask now. And he was. But he couldn't help but get cold feet every time he even thought of asking.

Jay snuck his hands into the pockets of his navy coat and fiddled with the small ring that he had hidden in it. Caressing the tiny diamond of the ring, he looked at Nya who was smiling as she looked around at the city, a content look on her face. Meanwhile, he frowned.

Nya had a hand brushing the strands of her black hair that was up in its usual ponytail while her arm was hooked around Jay's. They were walking through Ninjago City right now. No plan, no evil lurking anywhere, thankfully. Enjoying the view of the peaceful streets, vehicles vroomed past them, paper kids on their bikes passing every now and then, throwing their newspapers around to the people who waved to them.

"Something on your mind, Jay?" He almost jumped hearing Nya's voice speak up so suddenly.

He stuttered over his words, not exactly knowing what to tell her, "Eh- Uh, um- No, no. I'm fine, everything's all good." He gave her a thumbs up with his free hand and a smile that Nya always deemed cute.

Her features twisted, unconvinced, but she shrugged her shoulders and nodded, "Okay. If you need anything, I'll always be here to listen."

"Y-Yeah! Of course. Me too." He shoved his hand back into the pocket, "Thanks."

"Any time."

As they continued their journey through the busy but peaceful streets, the sky gave out a loud rumble and the clouds above them turned into a dark grey, indicating the change in the weather. When the droplets of water came down one after the other, the citizens around them started taking cover; some pulled their hoods on, some took shelter inside buildings, and others simply took out their umbrellas.

Luckily, Nya was prepared for anything water related and held her hands over her head, letting out a small grunt. The rain no longer hit the couple's heads. Jay looked up at the darkened clouds as he was shielded from getting hit. He pulled up his coat's hood and looked at Nya, opening the side of the coat to let her hide underneath it. She gladly did so, letting go of her hold on the rain.

"You didn't bring your coat?" Jay hugged her as they both ran towards their designated location.

"I didn't count on it to rain. The weather forecast didn't say anything about it earlier." She accepted his embrace, snuggling into the warmth of his body.

Jay snorted and shook his head in amusement, "Still should've brought it in case of emergencies like this, my Yang."

"I actually quite like this, my Yin." She smirked, "You're definitely much warmer than my coat."

"Aw, that's sweet. It one hundred percent wouldn't be as comfortable without you either."

She glanced up at him though his hood only revealed half of his face, "You know, you can be really cheesy at times."

"Only the best for my Queen." If it weren't for their current position of running through the rain in a small coat, he would've bowed as he said that.

He felt her weight on his side as she leaned on him, "And you're my King."

Jay grinned uncontrollably and gushed over that, "Awww. Nya, sweetie."

A warm, red blush appeared on her cheeks even though she was freezing from the cold rain, "Shut up, Jay." She pushed him very lightly and he just chuckled at her actions.

It was very unfortunate on their part that they were still miles away from where they had planned to be when drop after drop started coming down like crazy. They've been running for at least 10 minutes and they're still only halfway there. Both of them were shivering as the water began seeping through the coat and soaked them.

They agreed to take shelter underneath the canopy of a closed shop to rest their legs after sprinting on the slippery concrete. Running on the wet sidewalks was easier said than done. They could easily slip and fall so they had to hurry while still being careful not to do so.

Jay slipped the coat off of him and Nya to squeeze as much water out of it as possible. He felt his teeth chattering as the seconds passed by and soon was unable to hide his shivers. He grabbed his shoulders and hugged himself, trying to gain some more body heat.

"Cold?"

He looked behind him and saw his beloved Nya sitting on the stone stairs of the building. She, too, was hugging herself. She wasn't shivering, but it was clear that the lower than usual temperature of the rain was getting to her as well.

Nodding, he walked to her side and sat, his folded coat in his hands, "Yeah." He mumbled.

Nya leaned over to his figure and wrapped her arms around his shoulders, "Come here." Her voice was barely audible, but he heard her and snaked his arms around her waist, bringing her closer to him.

Jay looked her up and down. She was only wearing a tight, black, long sleeved turtleneck with light blue jeans. Nya raised a brow when she saw him staring at her in confusion.

"How are you not freezing like I am? Your clothes don't exactly give you much warmth."

She chuckled and gave him a playful eye roll, not replying. Instead, she just buried herself further into his embrace. Resting his chin on the top of her head, Jay smiled at her actions even though she kind of ghosted his question.

Soon enough, their body heats combined warmed both of them up. Jay stopped shivering and his mouth calmed down. Once he didn't feel as ice cold anymore, "Strange, isn't it?"

"What is?"

"It's not usually this cold during a storm, right? Or am I wrong?"

Nya took a few seconds to think about it, "No, you're right." She looked out at the drops of water. She held a single hand out and focused, dragging one of the raindrops and bringing to eye level. With a sway of her fingers, it was in front of Jay's face, "See that? It's almost like ice."

"I guess winter's decided to come a bit early. Not exactly snowing yet, but it's close to snow."

She flicked her hand to the ground and let the water droplet fall to the ground, "Let's keep moving. The sooner we get to Skylor's the better."

"Agreed." He stood up and unfolded the coat. Nya grabbed one end and clasped it over her head with Jay doing the same with the other end.

The front door of Chen's Noodle House swung wide open, the small bell letting out a small ding that echoed through the empty restaurant, and two soaking wet figures entered. The taller one had messy, auburn hair and the other had long, black hair. Jay and Nya.

"Hello?" Nya let the coat fall behind her back, "Skylor? You here?"

Jay waved the cloth around, hoping it would dry, before throwing it over his shoulder. He looked around at the place. The lights were off, making it pretty dark considering the time was still quite early.

"Kai? Cole?" When he got no response, Nya turned around, a look of confusion taking over her facial features. Jay shrugged at her and she did the same back, "Maybe they left somewhere and got stuck because of the rain?"

A new voice answered his question, "Nope. Thankfully. That would've been unfortunate." It came from the kitchen area which now had the door open, revealing the owner of the voice. Her red hair was a big giveaway.

"Skylor." Nya let out a sigh of relief, climbing over the counter to approach the said redhead.

"Nya." The two girls greeted one another with a short hug because Skylor pulled away as soon as Nya's drenched clothes touched her, "I should show you guys to the bathroom to change."

Jay came over and looked around, seemingly searching for something, "Got a coat hanger, maybe?"

Jerking her head towards the kitchen entrance, Skylor smiled, "Upstairs. Kai's already waiting with Cole and Vania." She then let out a small laugh, "Those two would most likely drive him mad with how touchy they are. We should pick up the pace."

Both Nya and Jay gaped at how big the noodle house building actually was on the inside. It looked a lot smaller from the outside. Well, it was more tall than wide, the multiple floors above the ground floor of the restaurant being Skylor's home.

As they climbed up the flight of stairs, Jay looked over Nya's shoulder and at Skylor, "Are PIX and Zane not joining us?"

Without stopping, Skylor shook her head, "Nope. I did invite them, but they said they had their work cut out for them at Borg's. Those two are busy nindroids. Good thing they have each other though. Working alone is torture."

By her tone, they could tell she was speaking from from her own experience. She did work for her father during her early years and was isolated on the island for so long with no one her age to talk to. That couldn't have been easy. Neither Jay or Nya replied after that, the brunette simply nodded at her answer even though Skylor couldn't see it.

After walking up around 3 or more floors, they were greeted by the sight of Kai and Cole playing video games while the Shintarian Queen was curled up against the former Master of Earth. Nya went to greet her brother and friends. Jay was about to follow in pursuit when Skylor tapped his shoulder and pointed at the hanger beside the stairs. He smiled in thanks and hung his still soaked coat on it. And that was when he noticed the missing presence of one of his friends.

"Hey," That gained all five of their attentions, "Where's Lloyd?"
