First Year,
Your Word

After the Professor completed her speech she escorted the new first years through the Great Hall. While Rhea and Laura were gazing around, Phoebe couldn't focus on anything but the long tables of students. Ethan smiled at the three girls as they walked past, she would like to be in Gryffindor like her father she didn't believe she had the traits the Gryffindor House admired.

She glanced over at the Slytherin table, despite her mother and uncle being in Slytherin House, some of the cold faces of the students frightened her. Her cousin's friend Louisa was in Hufflepuff, at least she would know someone in that house. Phoebe was so deep in thought she never heard Professor McGonagall call her name.

"Phoebe Black" Professor McGonagall called again, Rhea gave her hand a squeeze before letting her go up to the sorting hat. Professor McGonagall placed the sorting hat on her head, it began to speak to her.

"So much talent in a young wizard, unique and unlike others, wiser than you know, I know just where to put you,"

"RAVENCLAW!" Phoebe's glanced over to the Ravenclaw table, as she walked over to the Ravenclaw table her sister was called up next, her cousin Ethan's friend Penelope smiled as she sat just a few seats down from her.

"GRYFFINDOR!" Phoebe expected nothing other than Gryffindor for Rhea, she smiled as Rhea turned around to look for her. Laura was next while she hoped that Laura would be with her the sorting hat had other ideas.

"HUFFLEPUFF!" Laura quickly made her way to the Hufflepuff table, smiling as she hugged her brother's friend Louisa.

Her fear had come to life, she was alone, at least if she was in the same house as one of her cousins or sister, she would have had someone. At least they would have classes together.

Once it was time to head to her new dormitory, she thought that Ravenclaw Tower might be similar to that of Gryffindor Tower. Mainly because the dormitories are located in towers they should have a similar layout. 'At least I think they should' she thought. The prefect stopped outside of a door, with a bronze knocker in the shape of an eagle.

"To enter the common, the eagle will ask you a riddle, answer correctly and the door will open, answer wrong, you'll be locked out, until someone answers right, understood?" everyone nodded the eagle moved, expanding its wings.

"What can you keep after giving to someone?" the Prefect allowed the first years to attempt to answer the riddle for themselves.

"Anyone?" they asked, she looked around the first years before raising her hand.

"Is it, your word?" she shyly said, the eagle laid its wings against its side, unlocking the door.

"Very good," they gestured for them to enter.

Phoebe was amazed by how the Ravenclaw common looked, the ceiling looked like the night sky, filled with various star charts and constellations. A mixture of creative and intellectual designs that provided a sense of relaxation for her, while she was originally nervous about spending her first night alone, she hoped that the feeling her dorm room provided would help her relax enough to get a good night's sleep.

As she woke for almost the eighth time that night, she realised it was time to head to class. She woke up with semi-decent hair, it wasn't too frizzy, just to be safe, she put a headband on, just to keep it together. She had already forgotten where the Transfigurations classrooms were, luckily for her she spotted Penelope walking through the common room.

"Excuse me, I'm not sure where I'm supposed to be?" she asked, showing the older student her timetable

"Okay, so for Transfiguration from here, I'd go to the third floor, you'll reach the Defences Against the Dark Arts office, not the classroom, the office, from there you're going to head straight down towards the opposite end of the corridor it should be on your right,"

"Thank you, Penny," Phoebe smiled at her as she left for her first class at Hogwarts.

She followed Penelope's directions, she found the Transfiguration classroom, she still had a while before the class began. As she waited for the rest of the students to arrive she tensed up as three Slytherin boys approached her she smiled at them, 'it's alright, they don't know about you,' she took a deep breath, she spotted her sister and cousin running towards her.

Phoebe didn't pay attention to much that Rhea and Laura had to say, as they were three of them and only two seats per desk. One of the girls would be sat alone, Laura came up with an idea of how to deal with their seating arrangement. Choosing the 'eenie meenie' system to decide, thankfully Phoebe was the one she chose, she move aside bumping into someone.

"I'm sorry, I didn't see you," she said, the Slytherin, rolled his eyes at her

"You should watch where you're going,"

"She said she was sorry, didn't she," she turned around, seeing Cedric standing behind her, the Slytherin sat down at his desk.

"Thank you," she smiled at him, as she sat at her desk with Laura.

"You seemed to bump into people a lot," he said, she chuckled at him

"It's a great way to meet someone, I met you didn't I,"

"Do you want to hang out after class?" Cedric asked,

"Erm, not today, I going to hang out with my cousin," he nodded

"No worries, maybe another time," she and Laura both smiled as he sat with Roger Davies, another Ravenclaw in their year.

"Why didn't you agree to hang out with him, he's sweet," Laura said, Phoebe shrugged

"I don't know, I just feel like everyone knows about what I can do,"

"Well, he doesn't and it shouldn't matter if he's a good person it shouldn't bother him,"

She knew that Laura was right, a friendship wouldn't be worth it if it meant lying to them about who she was. Rhea and Laura would always have her back, she knew that. She had to take a chance if she wanted to make friends. She balled up a piece of paper, throwing it at Cedric he open the note.

I'd love to hang out with you,
Phoebe. B.
