Twenty

Second Year,
Cedric Turns Thirteen

Phoebe held her wand up to her painting, hoping that she could successfully dry the painting without ruining it. She closed her eyes not wanting to witness her fail at drying the painting, after cast the spell, she opened her eyes sighing when the painting was still intact.

She only had an hour before the party and she hadn't decided on an outfit, she scrambled through her clothes, choosing a last-minute look. A mint green plaid skirt, a white t-shirt with a mint green cardigan, she wore her hair in a half updo, with a white scarf scrunchie.

Underestimating the time it would take to reach the Hufflepuff dormitory, her body tensed as she neared the Slytherin dormitory. She held her head down as she walked past, sighing when no one bothered her, she waited for Laura to let her inside.

"Oh good you made it," Laura showed her inside she gazed all around her.

Laura had told her many times what the Hufflepuff common room looked like, she could never picture it. It had a cosy warm feel to the dormitory, she smiled as she saw him, being hoisted up onto two boys' shoulders.

She smiled as Laura sat down with her they talked about Quidditch tryouts, Laura told her how good Cedric was. She was happy that they had a successful time, she wondered how Rhea did at her tryouts, she cringed feeling awful about not going to support her sister.

"Hey, you feeling alright?" Cedric asked as he came to sit with her,

"Yeah, are you enjoying your birthday," she smiled at him

"Yeah, it's been fun, I'm glad you came,"

"I am too, I think I needed something to celebrate for a change," he sat quietly with her watching a few other students enjoy dancing around and eating plenty of sweets.

"You've been distant since the other day with what happened in Herbology, you can tell me, if something's bothering you"

"I would tell you just not here," she whispered, he looked around seeing that there were too many people around for her to speak freely.

"Come on, we'll go to my room," he held her hand leading her to his dorm room, as he closed his door, she noticed that his room was similar to her own, with just one roommate, unlike her sister's room, with many roommates.

"Open your present first then I'll tell you,"

He sat on his bed, pealing the wrapping paper off. His face lit up, at the sight of it, a painting, of Hogwarts he presumed from her spot under the willow tree, she had even painted the Quidditch Stadium. With a quidditch player in yellow robes, chasing after a golden snitch, he smiled as the seeker robes read 'Diggory 13'

"Thank you Pheebs I love it,"

"Really?"

"Yeah, it's great, how'd you know I got on the team?"

"I'd love to say I saw it, but I didn't," he laughed with her. "Could I tell you about what I saw another time,"

"Yeah, I guess,"

"It's just, I wouldn't want to ruin your birthday with it," he creased his brows at her, "it's just what saw was really bad, I don't even fully remember what I saw, I just know it scared the hell out of me,"

"Have you ever had any like that before?" she shook her head

"I knew that as I get older there was a possibility of seeing things that weren't related to my family, I just didn't expect to have them at twelve,"

"I'm sorry, it can't be a nice feeling,"

"Don't get me wrong, I've seen some amazing things, I saw my mum and dad's 10-year wedding anniversary, this summer I never knew my dad could be so romantic, I saw Rhea's friendship the Weasley twins," she chuckled to herself, "Between you and me, I think she'd going to date one of them,"

"Must be George then, her and Fred don't seem to get along that well," she nodded agreeing with him.

"I can't remember which one it was,"

"Have you seen any about me other than being sorted into Hufflepuff," she chuckled

"Yes, I've seen you defend my ability, it was that what sway my decision to tell you," he smiled at her,

"Feel free not to answer if it's too personal," she nodded "could you make yourself have a vision, of a specific person?"

"Not that I'm aware of, I know my Grammy can, but she's a lot more experienced than me, I usually get a vision about a person if I touch them, it might be someone brushing past me or someone holding my hand, they don't happen all the time though, to be honest, I'm not really sure what triggers it,"

"Do you think you could one day?"

"With Grammy's help I'd love to," he smiled at her, "we should probably get back downstairs,"

"Yeah, come on, I have yet to dance with you,"

She laughed as he guided her back downstairs, they managed to wriggle their way through the crowded common room. He spun her around, he was carefree dancing that she loved, it was the only way she knew how to dance.

Merlin forbid, she ever had to ballroom dance, for an audience. With her family, it was different nobody really cared how you danced as long as you had fun. She laughed as he dipped her low, bringing her back up to him.

She was glad about two things, number one, that he knew about her visions, there were no longer any secrets between them. Number two, she managed to take her mind off quite possibly the worst vision she had ever had in her life.
