Thirty-Three

Third Year,
You'll Be Fine I Know It.

Phoebe hadn't managed any sleep in the last few nights leading up to her return to Hogwarts. The same dream purging her mind, the troll, her brother Carden somehow in the middle of it. She tried to remain strong, if her father suspected her worries, he'd ask her to stay home.

Of course, she knew he meant well, he always had good intentions regarding his children. She kept a close eye on Hadrian, he hadn't spoken much since he woke up. Even as they travelled to the station, nothing, not a word.

She offered him reassuring smiles and promises of a good time at Hogwarts, despite seeing him sorted in Slytherin house, he always seemed happy and joyful. 'Maybe his friends were good people.' she hoped they were good people.

She hadn't seen much of Hadrian on the train, she assumed he was with Carden and Harry. They wouldn't leave him out, she had told Cedric about her concern for her younger brother, she waited with the first years.

"Hey, cheer up," she told him, noticing that he hadn't smiled all day, "I'll see you in the hall," she wrapped her arms around him, he quickly pushed her away.

"Stop, it's not cool to squeeze by your sister," she smiled waving back at him as she walked towards the carriages.

"Do you think he'll be okay?" Cedric asked helping her up on the carriage, she nodded hoping he was alright.

"Could I ask you something?" he nodded waiting for her to continue, "If by the slim chance, Hadrian is in your house, would you watch over him for me, I worry about him that's all,"

"Sure, what about Carden?"

"They're are two very different people, Carden will fit anywhere it's just what he's like, Hadrian, he's a little different,"

"I'm sure whichever house they're sorted into they'll fit in their own way,"

She sat at her house table, nearer the empty Slytherin seats, Professor McGonagall rose from her seat to meet the first years just outside the door. She took a deep breath she smiled across the room at Rhea, as the doors opened the first as usual, gazed around in amazement.

She offered a soft smile to her brothers as they were told to wait she noticed Hadrian's expression change when a red-haired boy said something to Harry and Carden. A girl was sorted into Gryffindor, and another was sorted into Hufflepuff. The Malfoy's son, sorted into Slytherin, like his parents before him.

"Harry Potter,"

"GRYFFINDOR!" Phoebe clapped smiling at the boy she consider her family.

"Katherine Parker,"

"RAVENCLAW!" she hopped off the stool, sitting beside Phoebe.

"Aurora Fawley,"

"SLYTHERIN!" the new Ravenclaw looked disheartened by the girl's house, hoping they'd be together

"Carden Black," she sat up a little more her brother confidently walked up to the stool, before the hat even touched his head it roared

"GRYFFINDOR!" she chuckled to herself as he hurried over to Rhea, excitedly hugging her.

"Hadrian Black," she took a deep breath, he cautiously approached the stool, the hat sat on his head longer than anyone else there, she could see him begin to panic when the hat didn't sort him quickly.

"SLYTHERIN!"

At first, he didn't move, he looked over to Carden, before slowly walking to his seat, he sat beside a blonde girl who seemed just as lost as he did. Phoebe turned around, reaching over to tap his shoulder he turned around to her.

"You okay?" she asked softly, placing her hand on his shoulder he nodded, forcing a smile on his face, "You'll be fine, I know it," he turned his back to her. She flicked her eyes to Laura, she looked just as worried as she did, then she turned to Ethan and Rhea, they mouthed 'is he alright?' she nodded not wanting to worry them further.

It was Carden's face where she almost felt like crying, he had dreamt of being at Hogwarts together, sharing a dorm with his brother playing on the quidditch team together. Throughout the entire meal, he'd glance Hadrian's way, only he never looked back.

When it came for the students to head to their dormitory, she hoped to catch Hadrian before he headed down to the dungeons. She just missed him as Rhea and Carden did too, they didn't speak much, they hoped to see him in the morning where hopefully he had a good first night in the Slytherin Dungeons.

Phoebe made her way to her common room, the new first years wandered around their common room, taking their new home from home for the next seven years. Only one girl; Katherine didn't seem too happy, Phoebe smiled softly at her sitting on the sofa with her.

"My name's Phoebe Black, I know it can be a little scary for your first night,"

"It's not that, my cousin was nervous about coming to Hogwarts, being sorted into Slytherin probably hasn't helped her,"

"Ah, I understand, my brother was sorted into Slytherin too, I'm worried about him, but I have faith that he'll be fine, my mother and uncle were in Slytherin and she loved the friends she made from their house,"

"There aren't any Slytherins in our family, especially Aurora's family, both her parents were Hufflepuffs,"

"If it makes you feel better, my brother is a kind person, who knows maybe they'll be great friends," the girl nodded.

Phoebe smiled, the girl from her vision with Hadrian appeared to be similar to Katherine's cousin. She hoped that they both found comfort tonight, for their sake she hoped they found good friends, she knew Laura had managed to befriend a Slytherin. So they couldn't all be bad right?
