Thirty-Four
Third Year,
Treat Their Own Differently.
She had leapt out of bed with excitement the way she did this morning. For this morning was her very first lesson in Divination. A subject that would come naturally to her, studying topics she'd never have to worry about having the right answers or technique.
Phoebe wasn't foolish, she knew she would end up helping Rhea and Laura with their homework. Maybe not Cedric as he had done his own research to better understand her. She smiled at the young first years, guiding a few to their class before heading to the north tower where Divination was held.
She smiled as Rhea and Laura hurried up the stairs closely behind her. Professor Trelawney greeted the three girls showing them through to the classroom. The room was empty, class would start any minute where are the other students?
"Bagsy sitting with Pheebs." Rhea quickly spoke.
"No, I was going to do that," Laura complained.
"Looks like I was faster," she smiled as she sat beside her sister.
"I'm not doing your homework for you," she made clear before the lesson even started.
"I'm insulted that you assumed I would even ask," she quietly took out her books, "shame on you Pheebs,"
"How was he last night?" she asked, Rhea sighed,
"Not great, he wanted them to stay together,"
"I'm going to see Hadrian after his first class, will you be coming?"
"No, Oliver wants to go Quidditch schedules,"
"Oh, well I'll tell him you asked about him," she nodded as more students arrived filling in the empty seats.
Phoebe soaked up as much knowledge as she could though she doubted that Professor Trelawney had the best tactics to engage her class. Especially when many fell asleep, even Rhea dozed off her head lightly dropping onto her shoulder, she nudged her awake.
"What? Are we done?" Rhea asked, she rolled her eyes,
"No there's about 15 minutes left,"
"Really," she groaned "fine, wake me up when it's time to go," she folded her arms on the desk closing her eyes.
She couldn't believe Rhea would be that rude, how would Professor Trelawney feel to know she purposely went to sleep? Surely it would knock the Professor's confidence, she knew from her mother that Sybill wasn't the most confident person in the world and Rhea falling asleep right in front would not have helped.
The second class ended she hurried to the Transfiguration classrooms, having heard a few first-years say that was their first class. She patiently wait for them to finish, she smiled at Harry and Carden as they quickly made their way down the hall with three other boys.
They clearly had no trouble making friends, the two cousins who had been separated into different houses left class together she smiled at them, looking around the few Slytherins students that left the classroom. She smiled softly at her brother, his robes suited him well.
In this moment he reminded her of their uncle, Regulus. Having seen many pictures from her mother's photo album, it was like she was looking at Regulus, seeing so much of him in her brother. Out of her sibling her two brothers resembled the Black family more than anyone. Whenever she saw a photograph of her father and uncle side by side. It was like looking her younger brothers.
"Hi, Pheebs,"
"Hey, did you sleep well?"
"I didn't think I would, but mum wrote me a letter and I felt a bit better, she knew I'd been in Slytherin, and to some extent, I think you did too," she blinked
"What makes you think that?"
"Out of our two cousins, and three siblings, you were the only that didn't seem surprised,"
"Well, I might have seen something," she admitted, he nodded, "I would've told you, but grammy always said, sometimes telling someone can be the reason it happens,"
"I'm not mad, the common room is just like mum said it was, it might be dark but there is a warm feeling to it," she smiled, having heard the stories of Slytherin house from their mother.
"Well, that's good then, I'll see you later," he nodded, she hugged him he didn't shove her away embarrassed by her, instead he let her hold him.
"Thank you, Pheebs,"
"Love you," she ruffled his hair as he ran through the halls most likely late for his next lesson.
She smiled as Cedric waited for her by the archway she hooked her arm with his. He told her that there have been rumours of her brother plotting pranks just like Rhea and the Weasley Twins. She didn't need him to tell her which brother she knew it would be Carden.
"How was he last night?"
"He said he was fine, which surprises me, I thought he would have felt lonely," she admitted.
"I think despite how Slytherin might treat others, I think they treat their own differently,"
"How do you mean?" she asked, unsure of what he trying to get at.
"Think about Pheebs, if everyone in the school hated Ravenclaws just like they do Slytherins, wouldn't you stick by your housemates too,"
"Yeah, I probably would, oh there's Laura's friend, Higgs!" she called.
"I don't know where she is,"
"No, I wanted to ask, if my brother was alright, Hadrian Black," he stopped like he was questioning whether to speak to her or not.
"Slytherins take care of our own," was all he said, before walking away from them.
She smiled to know that Slytherin welcomed her brother despite his family being in other houses. Especially when his twin brother, sister and cousin, were members of their rival house Gryffindor. If it was true she didn't need to worry so much, though she always will worry for her little brother.
