Thirteen
First Year,
Something To Look Forward To.
Avoiding everyone around her was her solution. If she didn't see her sister or cousins then she would foresee anything, at least that's what she hoped. Just another month left she would tell herself, then she would be home. Though something still played on her mind.
"Should I tell him"
She couldn't get the vision of her and Cedric out of her head, she was comfortable with him enough to confidently joke about her gift. She didn't know when the vision would happen, she wondered if she should tell him now. Or leave it until she was certain.
She sat quietly in the library studying for her end-of-year exams, using the time to take her mind off things. She flicked her eyes up, spotting Cedric enter the library, she kept her eyes down, she heard him settle his books down on the table she sat at.
"How are you?" he asked
"I'm fine, can't wait to get home, to be honest with you," she admitted, "not that I haven't enjoyed my time at Hogwarts it's just. I hate fighting with Rhea and Laura,"
"I don't know what it's like to have siblings and I don't have many cousins that I see, but what do understand is that not everyone who lives together gets along, sometimes my father's boasting can be a little embarrassing at times,"
"My parents don't boast, since their parents embarrassed them, with constant boasting, or belittling in my Dad's circumstance,"
"I know it's my dad's way of showing that he's proud of me, it just gets a little much at times,"
"It's great that he's proud of you," he smiled at her, wanting to change the subject she asked, "have you decided if you're going to play quidditch,"
"Yes I'm going to practise a lot when I get home," she smiled at him, "do you have any plans for the summer?"
"Right now, no, my dad likes to surprise us with trips and vacations, though now that we're at school I don't know if we'll be going anymore, Rhea will most likely want to see her friends, I know Ethan sees his friends all the time, he's hardly home,"
"Well, if you're free it would be great to see you outside of school,"
"Yeah, I'd like that, I know I'm for sure going to my Grammy's Cottage, I will let you know if anything changes,"
"Good, I should get going, I'm supposed to be going to speak to Professor Sprout,"
"Oh okay, I'll see you late hopefully,"
"Yes," he smiled at her as he left, she needed to be sure that she could trust him, the last thing she wanted was for the wrong people to find out she's a seer.
Dear Grammy,
I know, I'll be coming to see you when back home, but I just couldn't wait to write to you. I need to know how you trusted your friend enough to tell him about your ability. I saw something, and while it was positive, I just don't know when the right time would be to reveal it to him.
He hasn't said anything bad about Seer's or divination, in general, I just don't want to rush telling him and scare him away or worse have him use me for my gift. If you could help in any way, I'd really love it. Hope you're well.
Phoebe.
She considered how amazing it would be for a friend to know what she could do. If she told he might understand why she can be a little distant at times. However, like always her mind believed the worst that a friend might use her for her ability, not having any kind of friendship with her just there to lend a vision or two.
She needed to do one last thing before she left for the summer, she walked towards her head of house's office. Hoping to discuss a problem that had been dwelling on her mind. She took a deep breath knocking lightly, as the door opened.
"Ah, Miss Black how might I help you?" Professor Flitwick asked, she closed the door behind her sitting down at his desk.
"I'm having some trouble focusing, I was wondering if there is anything that could help,"
"Focusing how? In class? With homework?"
"Both I guess, it's just when I have seen something, it's like my mind works on overdrive, sometimes I forget I have homework then remember at the last minute, which leads to burning out as I have to do double the work,"
"I see, well I could discuss possible help, with Professor Dumbledore, it might be ideal to talk with Professor Trelawney, she might have a way to stay focused, and of course, there's always the option of homeschooling," she sighed, not wanting that to be an option for her.
"Forgive me, Professor but I don't want to be homeschooled, I want to have as normal of a life as I can, that includes Hogwarts,"
"Very well, I suggest you try your best, it might be difficult for a couple of weeks, but from what I've seen in your classes you're a very bright student, you've managed to grasp the knowledge a little easier than some of the other students, if you feel you missed something, ask the Professor for extra credit just to be the safe side."
"Thank you, Professor I hope you have a good summer,"
"You too Miss Black,"
