Sixteen

Summer 1990,
Puppies.

Grimmauld Place had never been quieter, her family left for their annual camping trip. She was sure that eventually, they would stop going camping altogether, as everyone was growing up, wanting to spend the summer with their friends rather than camp out in the woods.

She sat in front of the mirror she contemplated how she wanted to wear her hair, while she usually likes to keep out of her face, in a ponytail or in double dutch braids. She wanted to look a little different, she took a few hair pins, to pin back some of the more unruly strands of her hair.

"Phoebe, how long will you be?" Regulus called upstairs to her.

"I'm here now," she said, hurrying downstairs she smiled at her uncle "Where are Ethan and Rhea?"

"Ethan's meeting Oliver there, and Rhea couldn't wait so she went with him," he gestured for the door.

"Finally some peace and quiet," Walburga muttered, Regulus rolled his eyes as they passed the portrait.

"Not for long, Kreacher,"

"Yes Master Regulus,"

"Make sure the music is loud," the elf nodded, playing their music loud enough to fill the whole of the house.

Regulus held a portkey for Phoebe as they landed on the ground, she stayed close to her uncle, holding his hand. The loud crowd of Quidditch fans weren't something she expected the second she landed, she looked around, hoping to see Cedric.

She already spotted Ethan with his friends, Oliver, Louisa, and Penny. The four laughed loudly as they bought Quidditch merchandise. She spotted her sister, with her two Gryffindor friends, Angelina and Alicia, the sight was bizarre, Rhea never socialised with other girls their age. 'I suppose there's a first time for everything,'

"Phoebe," she looked around as someone called her name, seeing his hand waving over the crowd. "I'm glad you decided to come,"

"Me too," she hugged him, remembering that her uncle was with her she moved away "Cedric this is my uncle Regulus,"

"Nice to meet you, sir, my father should be here somewhere, DAD!" he waved over to his dad, a tall man made his way through the crowd, resting his hand on Cedric's shoulder.

"You must be Phoebe, it's so good to finally meet you,"

"You too, this is my Uncle Regulus," the two shook hands as Regulus turned to her.

"Will you be alright?"

"Yes, Grammy should be expecting me later," he wrapped his arms around her.

He apparated away, Cedric held her hand as they looked around the stalls before the game started, he held a few shirts up to him. Looking for her advice, she didn't like either of them eyeing a shirt that complimented his eyes, she held one up to him pursing her lips.

"This one suits you better," she smiled, he took the shirt from her his fingertips grazing her hand.

"You don't have to believe her, but you ever don't ever make fun of her," Cedric warned the Slytherin boy,

"You can't seriously believe her crazy ramblings-

"She is not crazy," his voice turned cold as he defended her honour, the Slytherin smirked at her as he left them alone.

"You didn't need to do that,"

"I don't care, you have an incredible gift, don't let anyone make you feel ashamed of it,"

"You okay Pheebs?"

"Yeah, erm isn't the game going to start soon," she asked, he checked the time, realising they had to find their seats quickly, or they might just miss the beginning.

She played the vision over and over in her mind, while Cedric guided her to their seats, she noted the coldness of his tone. Like he felt offended that someone called her crazy she smiled to herself, glancing at the boy standing beside her, 'trust your visions' not one but two visions.

"You having fun?" he asked, she nodded.

"Yeah, I was hoping to tell you something-" she was cut off by the crowd's loud cheers,

"What?" he asked, she tried to explain again only for the crowd to cheer again.

"It doesn't matter, I'll tell you later,"

As the game came to an end, she didn't want to leave, she desperately wanted to stay with him. While the confidence was there she wanted to tell him, she hoped that his father might step away for a moment then she could tell him.

"Do you like dogs?" she nodded, "there's a family in a nearby village, their dog just had a litter of puppies,"

"Oh my gosh, you know I actually want a pet, my cousin Ethan got a kneazle this summer, he's a ginger kneazle called Garfield,"

"If you want, I could ask if they have any left,"

"Oh don't feel like you have to-

"Phoebe," his father spoke, "how are you getting home?"

"My grammy might be picking me,"

"Well, if you like, you're more than welcome to stay with us," he suggested, Cedric smiled at her she agreed to stay at their home.

As they arrived at the Diggory's home, Amos let Cedric show her around. He apologised that his mother wouldn't be here to greet her, as she decided to visit her mother over the summer. Once Amos left the pair alone, Phoebe took a deep breath as she lifted her ring to her lips.

"Uncle Reg, I decided to stay at Cedric's could you tell Grammy I won't be coming,"

"You sure going to be okay?"

"Yeah,"

"Alright I'll tell her, I'll come and get you if you need to come home,"

"Thank you,"

"Who are you talking to?" Cedric asked,

"No one," she smiled, "I wanted to tell you something," he waited for her to continue. "I erm, I wanted to, I wanted to know if you'd come to my birthday,"

"Yeah, it'll be fun to meet all your family,"

As he left to get her something to wear her smile fell, she sighed her anxiety had gotten the better of her. She made a mental note to tell him on her birthday. Whether her anxiety was at an all-time high or not, she was going to tell him in the comfort of her home.
