Thirty-One
Summer 1991,
Diagon Alley.
That time of year came around again, the time to go to Diagon Alley. Her brother's acceptance letters had arrived, at last, the family prepared to make their trip. Phoebe joined her parents and siblings as they made their way through the crowd, waiting for the arrival of the Potter's their son Harry had received his letter too.
"Alright, listen up," her mother spoke, "Sirius you take the boys to get their wands and their robes, I'll get their school books, with Rissa and Hope,"
"Sounds good come on boys," Sirius left with Hadrian and Carden,
"Burkes," she said, Ethan, Laura and Max looked at her, "you three will go and McKinnon's Wizardwears, and pick up our order," they nodded walking away, "don't let Marlene talk you into getting more than we need,"
"We won't," Laura shouted back as they hurried away,
"Reg, go with them," she sighed, "Pheebs, Rhea, you're meeting your friends right?" she and her sister nodded "okay, we'll be leaving in a couple of hours,"
She walked with Rhea for a while, and they both agreed to meet their friends by the ice cream stand. Phoebe noticed the sea of red hair making its way through the busy streets, Rhea smiled at her, looking over to the family.
"Go on, he won't be long," she told her, Rhea hurried towards the family. She looked around her, Cedric wouldn't be too long now hopefully.
"Ahh!" a girl screamed cowering under a sink in the girl's bathroom, a huge wooden club swung down narrowing missing her "Help!"
Harry, Carden and red-haired boy, began throwing broken pieces of wood at the creature's head. Harry grabbed onto the club, pulling his up onto the creature's shoulders, the creature held him by his ankle, swinging his club at him.
"Do something!"
She blinked, looking all around her, looking for anyone that she could tell about this. She turned to leave, as someone called out her name, she searched in the direction of the voice. Phoebe smiled as Cedric found her, he ran over to her, wrapping his arms around her, he pulled away when her body tensed.
"Are you okay?"
"I need to find my dad," she mumbled, he searched with her, hoping that her father was still at Ollivander's.
"Was it bad, what you saw?"
"Yeah, I just need to talk to him," he understood looking around for any sign of her father,
"Carden stop pushing me," she heard Hadrian complain, she held Cedric's hand hurrying towards her father and brothers.
"Hurry boys go get your robes fitted," her father ushered them inside the store.
"Dad!" he turned around, smiling at her, "can I ask you something please?"
"Of course, what's up?"
"Can creatures get into Hogwarts?"
"Well, I suppose Kreacher could-
"No, not Kreacher, creatures like trolls,"
"Trolls are pretty stupid I doubt they know how to open a door," she sighed, he eyed her cautiously, "Why'd you ask?"
"I saw something that's all," his eyes flicked to Cedric, "I told him, what I can do, he's been helping me, especially at school,"
"Well, if you believe it'll happen, then speak to McGonagall about it, or Dumbledore," she nodded, "I've got to go check on your brothers,"
"Okay," she smiled as her father left to try and find her brothers. She turned to Cedric as they walked around the busy streets. "How's your summer been so far?"
"It's been okay, I visited my grandparents which was fun, my grandfather is very mischievous," she chuckled, "how about you, have your visions been better since being home?"
"I wouldn't say better, but I am around people that are used to it and understand if don't want to talk or socialise with them for a bit,"
"Did you really see something about Trolls?"
"Yeah, I'm not certain but I think a Troll might break into Hogwarts, I'm not sure so don't take it as a fact,"
"Okay, I won't, what electives did you pick?"
"I chose Divination because it should theoretically be an easy subject-
"I bet it is," she rolled her eyes at him.
They tried to get away from the crowds of people, most of them Hogwarts students shopping for their school supplies. Phoebe notice some of the families, the Potters had brought Harry, and the Longbottoms had brought their son Neville. Even Narcissa Malfoy escorted her son Draco to Madam Malkin's.
"It's rather exciting isn't it, all the new students that'll be coming to Hogwarts,"
"Yeah, I can't wait for this year, new classes and we get to go to Hogsmeade,"
"Oh gosh, I forgot we could go now, we'll be there all the time won't we," she smiled at him, he nodded, she hooked her arm with his resting her head on his shoulder as they strolled towards the Quidditch Store.
"I know quidditch isn't your thing, but I need a new broom,"
"Oh, Rhea and my cousins got a new one too, the Nimbus 2000 I believe, it's the fastest broom isn't it,"
"For quidditch yeah, there's racing brooms that are faster, I'm hoping to get that one if they have it in stock,"
"What's the difference between the brooms?" she asked genuinely interested in the difference between the two broomsticks that appeared to be the same.
"Well, a racing broom is built for speed, whereas the Quidditch brooms are designed to be more agile, so it's easier to make swift turns,"
"Oh, well let's go see if they have any left,"
She hurried inside the store, not expecting it to be as crowded on the inside, she shimmied her way through the people, she held her hand high waving to Cedric so he could get to her. She bumped into her Cousins.
"What are you doing in here?" Max questioned,
"Cedric wanted the Nimbus 2000," she said,
"Better hurry there isn't many left," Ethan pointed out to the shelves, only one broom left she pushed her way through grabbing the broomsticks.
"Cedric I got it!" someone else pulled on the broom "hey, this one's mine," she looked up scowling as she stood face to face with Adrian Pucey.
"You don't play, why'd you need one," he argued.
"I'm trying out this year," she lied, he pulled the broom, she pulled back "Let go," she warned.
"Or what?" she stomped on his foot, he released the broom.
"Thank you," she said cheerfully as she searched for her friend, he smiled at her. She turned around smiling at Adrian, he scowled at her as she left with Cedric.
They both wandered around the other stores, they spent a little too long in 'Mary's Sweetie Pie Bakery' they managed to get a few free cupcakes. Mary claimed that Phoebe's father already owed her. They spent the remainder of their day, talking about their summer and Phoebe's upcoming thirteen birthday.
