Chapter 44: THE CORE

(O.D.D.- Sorry for extremely late updates!  I added Death By Glamour by Toby Fox. (ω))

"Ah, pooppooppooppooppooppoop--!"

Cry dashed through the halls while holding Frisk's hand tightly; they were currently running from a Madjick who wouldn't stop throwing spells at them.

"Heehee~abracadabra~!"

Cry shouted back at the monster, flailing his free arm in the air.

"Dude!  That is the most cliché spell in whole entire world!"

The brunet pressed the MERCY button when it was the humans' turn.

Frisk reached into the backpack that was still on Cry's back and pulled out a STICK.

Madjick halted and widened his eyes.

"Oh~dear~!  I have been attacking a fellow wizard!  My bad, my bad~!"

The short monster stopped throwing spells.

"Hee, hee~!  I'll let you two be on your way!  Sorry~!"

Madjick cackled as he flew off to some other part of the CORE.

Cry and Frisk sighed in relief; the two glanced at each other.

"That could've ended a lot worse."

*Agreed.*

~~

They met Knightknight and a few other monsters.

Alphys helped--or tried to--direct them through the maze of metal and wires.

Sometimes they would end up going in circles and run into other monsters;  all were SPAREed and the humans continued on their merry way.

Eventually, Cry and Frisk stopped at a large metal door.

The brunet could sense a certain robot beyond them; he glanced over at Frisk and quirked a small smile.

"Alright, we're about to battle with Mettaton."

Frisk scrunched her nose up; Cry laughed.

"Don't like him very much...?"

Frisk quickly shook her head, signing frantically.

*Not at all!  It's just....I remembered him...in a dress...*

Cry guffawed.

"Haha!  Okay, okay.  We better get going..."

The brunet stepped towards the door, but he was held back by Frisk; Cry raised an eyebrow at her.

"Frisk?"

She opened her eyes and stared at Cry worriedly.

*...Don't...push yourself too hard.*

She looked down at the ground; her hand gripping Cry's shook slightly.

*I thought I was going to lose you forever at Papyrus' fight.*

Cry softened his gaze before grinning brightly at Frisk.

"Don't worry!  We're gonna get through this, and I'll be fine!  So just keep being filled with DETERMINATION."

Frisk slowly nodded and smiled, closing her eyes.

They stepped through the doors as they automatically opened.

They wandered in darkness for a few minutes before a spotlight shown down on a certain rectangle in the room.

"GOOD EVENING BEAUTIES~!  It is your host and star, Mettaton!"

The rectangle waved a mike around.

"I'm sorry to say, humans, that this is where your journey ends!"

Mettaton engaged Cry and Frisk in a battle.

The humans had to dodge mini-Mettatons and bombs.

Alphys suddenly called during the fight.

"U-Um, hey!  Cry and F-Frisk!  Th-Th-There's something that ca-can possibly help you g-guys!  M-Make Mett-Mettaton turn around.  There s-should be a s-switch there o-o-on his back.  F-Flip the s-switch!"

Cry grinned before cupping his hands over his mouth, shouting at Mettaton.

"HEY, METTA!  THERE'S A MIRROR BEHIND YOU!"

The rectangular-robot spun around.

"Oh really!?  I should make sure I look my best for my show--hey....I don't see any mirror, my beaut--!"

Click.

Frisk had flipped the switch on Mettaton's back when he turned around.

Mettaton stood still.

"Did.  You just.  Flip.  My.  Switch?"

Frisk scrambled back to stand by Cry's side.

The brunet grinned mentally.

'Here it comes~!'

Smoke started to surround Mettaton.

"YOU FLIPPED MY SWITCH!  DO YOU KNOW WHAT YOU HAVE DONE!?"

The light above blinked out, plunging all of them in darkness.

Frisk tensed up and clutched tightly onto Cry's arm; the brunet gamer patted her head comfortingly.

The light flashed back on, but smoke continued to obscure the humans' views on Mettaton; they heard his voice though.

"Oh~my~!"

Cry could see a human-shaped figure in the smoke.

"You beauties just couldn't wait, could you~?  You wished to see...my new body, right~?"

The smoke disappeared.

Raven hair was flipped as a man in a flashy outfit smirked at the two children.

"But~since you've revealed my body so soon because you desperately wanted to see it, I'll make your death..."

More lights turned on;  Mettaton spun in a circle before posing.

Neon-pink eyes cut through the room.

"ABSOLUTELY...FABULOUS~!"

*Mettaton is making his final debut.

Cry quickly tugged Frisk to the side as missiles were shot their way.

Once the attack was done, Cry chose ACT; he grinned at the options before choosing one.

'Let's have the most bada** posing battle ever!'

Frisk smiled at Cry's choice of ACTion.

The two made poses; Mettaton blinked in surprise before grinning.

"BRILLIANT!  Look at those rates go~!"

Mettaton smirked before sending mini-Mettatons at them--they were still in a rectangular form.

Cry narrowed his gaze and  created a large gust of wind to send the tiny machines to crash elsewhere.

Mettaton blinked in surprise, mumbling to himself.

"He can use magic?"

The android smirked and called out loudly for his viewers.

"Things are starting to heat up! Human with the blue eyes!"

Cry rose an eyebrow as Mettaton continued.

"What is your name?"

"Cry..."

"Are you telling me to cry!?"

"Wha--!? No! That's really my name!"

Mettaton hummed.

"I see! Well then, Cry, it appears that you can use...magic!"

The ratings spiked up.

The android grinned.

"Show us something exciting, Mr. Cry!"

The brunet frowned mentally.

'I can't stress my magic...or I'll faint. Gotta play it safe.' "Alrighty! Here I come!"

The brunet set up a wind barrier around Frisk and hime protect them as bombs were shot at them.

Cry let blue lightning surround his hands to do a--literal--flashy pose.

Mettaton grinned widely and posed in response.

"How about~a short essay quiz~? Q: What is something you admire about Mettaton~?"

Cry looked at Frisk, who gave a deadpanned look to Cry.

*Is he serious?*

Cry chuckled.

"Yes."

Frisk reached out and typed something when a keyboard appeared in front of them.

Mettaton looked at what was typed and smirked, spinning and kicking a leg up.

"So you love my legs, darlings~? How nice of you two~! I'll go easy on you this round!"

*Mettaton has lowered his ATK. level.

Cry blinked at the black box before tapping it, causing it to disappear.

The brunet grabbed Frisk's hand and dodged a few bombs.

The two humans made a pose together.

Mettaton suddenly dashed forwards and lashed out with a few kicks.

Cry widened his eyes when one kick was about to hit Frisk.

He pushed her to the side.

Thud!

Cry winced and coughed when he got kicked in the gut.

The brunet was sent flying backwards and hit the one of the walls surrounding them, cracking it slightly; Frisk made a distressed noise.

Cry slid to the floor and clutched his stomach.

He accidentally bit his cheek when he was kicked; blood dribbled down his chin from his lips.

Frisk ran over to Cry; the brunet laughed shakily at her.

"H-Heh, if Sans were here, he would say, 'I don't have the stomach to feel that kick'."

Frisk smiled weakly at the joke before helping him to his feet.

Cry wiped his chin and grimaced at the blood.

The brunet looked over at Mettaton, who actually looked a bit guilty, before looking over at Frisk; the brunet grinned.

"Looks like we'll have to up our game!"

Frisk yelped slightly when Cry took both of her hands into his own.

Cry suddenly sprouted his wings from his back; Frisk opened her eyes at that.

Mettaton gaped slightly.

"Are you...a monster?"

Cry laughed.

"Nah, I'm just this kid with the power of magic and friendship on his side."

The brunet carried Frisk princess-style as he flew in the air to dodge some bombs.

Mettaton smirked.

"How about a little heart to heart, hm~?"

Mettaton's heart floated out into the open; he gave a pose.

Cry dashed forward and put on a mock fight for the viewers; Mettaton smirked and returned the blows--though he seemed a bit more careful and gentle with his strength.

Alphys suddenly called.

"U-Um hey! G-Guys, there's a y-yellow switch o-on your p-phone! I downloaded it; i-it'll help in y-your fight! Press it q-quickly!"

Frisk pressed the button on the phone; she blinked in surprise when her red SOUL turned yellow and flipped itself upside-down.

Cry used his Outsider powers to Blink in front of Frisk; he grinned back at her.

"I'll defend! You attack."

Frisk aimed her yellow SOUL at Mettaton's heart.

Yellow beams were shot out; they hit their target.

Mettaton growled lowly and sent mini-Mettaton at them.

Cry let blue lightning crackle up his left arm; he let out an electrical pulse that shut down the bots.

Mettaton grunted when his heart was hit again.

Bang!

The android widened his eyes with shock when his arms fell off.

He smirked shakily at the two humans.

"H-Ha! No matter! Who needs arms if they've got hot legs like these~?"

Mettaton sent a combo of bombs and beams at them before saying something.

"Rewind!"

Cry glanced behind and saw that the attacks that they dodged were going backwards towards them.

The brunet brought out his Okami sword--knife, since he's a chibi--and sliced through all of the attacks like they were butter.

Mettaton's legs suddenly fell off.

His torso and head fell onto the ground; he blinked with shock.

"This--I--I can still fight! Th-The show must go on after all--!"

"Mettaton."

The android looked up to see Cry and Frisk pressing the MERCY button; Cry's wings disappeared and he stitched his jacket back up with his wind magic.

Cry smiled warmly.

"You've reached your viewer milestone."

Mettaton looked to the screen on the side and widened his eyes.

"O-Over 10,000 viewers!?"

The android shook off his surprise and smiled.

"Well, well! I guess this means that I will get to call one of my fans before I end my show! Anyone, please dial our show's number; I'll take any call!"

A few seconds passes by before ringing was heard; Mettaton accepted the call.

"Greetings, darling! You're on TV! What do you want to say on our last episode?"

There was silence on the other end of the phone before a shaky voice spoke.

"Oh.......is...it really the last episode? I.....I really loved your shows, Mettaton. They always...made me happy......I'm...going to miss you.....but....I wish you the best....when you make a new show....out on the surface............ah. I'm sorry. I took up a lot of time. I'll go now."

Mettaton was tearing up slightly during the call; he widened his wyes when the caller quickly ended it.

"Bloo--....he hung up..."

The android shook his head and put on a shaky smile.

"I-I'll take on another call!"

Many calls came.

"I love you, Mettaton!"

"Good luck up there!"

"That was an awesome finale!"

"Your legs really are the best!"

"Mettaton, Mettaton! There's a Mettaton-shaped hole in my Mettaton-shaped heart!"

The android smiled sadly.

He looked over at Cry and Frisk.

"Darlings...I guess I won't go up to the surface."

He looked up at the ceiling.

"Humans have their own stars and heroes up there. But the Underground....they only have me."

He sighed and looked at the ground.

"But....sadly...this body...is not complete. It's battery doesn't supply enough energy for me to work forever."

Mettaton looked at Cry and Frisk.

"Darlings...make it to the surface. If you were able to defeat me, then you should be able to beat Asgore."

He smirked.

"Knock 'em dead, darlings."

He then looked up, smiling warmly.

"And to the Underground! Goooooood night~!"

His eyes slowly flickered out; the light was gone.

Frisk looked at Mettaton with sadness.

Cry ruffled her hair.

"Mettaton! Mettaton!"

The two humans turned to see Alphys in the flesh rushing towards them.

The yellow lizard froze when she saw Mettaton.

Cry and frisk stepped to the side to let her look at the android.

A few minutes of silence ticked by; Alphys finally spoke.

"C-Cry, Frisk....can you please go on ahead? I-I need a moment. Alone."

Cry nodded in understanding and dragged Frisk out pf the room with him; the brunette looked at the scientist with worry.

The two humans continued their trek through the halls; Cry noticed the place they were about to arrive at.

"G-Guys!"

The two humans paused and looked behind themselves.

Alphys, eyes puffy with tears, looked at them sadly.

"I...I'm sorry. When I said that...King Asgore...would let you two go if you reason with him...I-I lied."

She let put a choked sob.

"I-If you want to get past him...y-you'll have to....k-k-kill him."

Frisk froze and she became a deathly pale color.

Cry gazed back grimly.

Alphys looked at the floor and walked away from them.

"Sorry..."

And she was gone.

The hall was filled with silence.

Cry squeezed Frisk's hand to comfort her.

She followed Cry down the hall with shaky feet.

The two stood before a large entry way.

A soft, scratchy voice spoke.

"I-I don't want to...hurt...anyone."

Cry looked ahead.

"I know. I know, Frisk."

Golden light filled the giant hall they stepped into.

They both stopped at the SAVE POINT at the start of the hall.

JUDGEMENT HALL

Cry led Frisk down the hall.

He expected to see Sans there.

However....

"Howdy!"

Cry widened his eyes when he saw a certain flower in the middle of the hall, along with two familiar faces.

'Sh**....virus versions of Snake and Raven....and they're pretty much adults compared to kid-me.'

Flowey smirked at Cry.

"Well, Cry, I heard some interesting things about you from these two. And don't worry about that trash bag Sans; I'm keeping him busy, so it's just you two, lil ol' me, and two of your best friends!"

Flowey's face melted slightly into a more sinister look.

"Ready to have a G O O D T I M E ? "
