Prologue

Evelyn's POV

I sighed, sitting on my bed. I stared at my half packed suitcase, knowing the day before my birthday, I'd be off to The Academy. I honestly didn't want to go. I wanted to train whatever Pokemon I wanted, but, all kids have to go, because it's a rule in all regions. The elders are the only ones who have multiple Pokemon types. I walked downstairs to my parents, where they say talking. My dad glanced my way, "Hey Eve, excited to go to The Academy?" He asked. I shook my head, "Not really, I want to stay and train all types of Pokemon," I said sadly. He sighed, "I know how you feel, but it's a rule now, so I guess we don't have a choice." He smiled ruefully at me. I knew the rule had been intact for years, and I never liked it. I sat down at the table, then looked at my father. "Can I go outside to Macy's?" I asked. He nodded, "Be home at before supper though." He said, nodding towards the door. Macy was an elder of the village so I enjoyed seeing her and her Pokemon.

I knocked on Macy's door, and it opened quietly. "Ah, Evelyn, a pleasure dearie." She said smiling. I gave her a small smile in return. "Come out in the back, I'll get some Lemonade, my Pokemon are all out there." She said, walking inside. I walked out back, seeing her Pokemon. There was a Espeon, Sceptile, Aggron, Luxray, Trevenant, and Froslass. I sat down at the table on her back porch, smiling at the diversity. I knew soon I wouldn't be able to see anyone having something this diverse in a while, so I enjoyed it. Macy walked out, giving me a smile. "Ready to head to The Academy?" She asked, her smile slightly faltering. "No, I want to train Pokemon like you do, diverse, but I can't." I said sadly. She nodded, "It's definitely not the same, but you'll still have your partner like I have Trevenant." She said. "Yeah, but only one type is tiring, everyone knows how to defeat you." I sighed. She gave a small smile and nodded, "There is Dual types, and there is no rule after graduating that you can't change to all type training." She said. I nodded, "You're right. I'll definitely do that, I want to train all types!" I said smiling. She smiled back, "You can play with my Pokemon dear, I'll tell you when you have to go home." She said. I nodded, "Thank you Ms.Macy!" I called, walking away to her Pokemon.

I walked in the door to the house, glad I visited Macy's. My father waved from the couch. "Hey kiddo, better finish packing, you leave tomorrow, and your ma is making a special dinner." He said, smiling in my direction. "Ok dad.. I wish I didn't have to go though." I said, my shoulders slumping. "I know, but you'll be back out in no time." He said. "Yeah, then I can be free to train whatever Pokemon I want." I said grinning. "If that's what you want, sure." He said, waving me off. I walked upstairs to finish packing, quiet.

I heard ma calling that dinner was ready, and I walked down quietly. She smiled at me, "Now let's eat, then we can play a game or something, we don't have to be upset that you're leaving tonight." She said, optimistic like always. "Ok ma, I'll get out the board games once I'm done eating," I said. She nodded, "Thanks honey. Well let's eat." She said. We all started eating quietly, not bothering to make conversation.

I put my plate in the sink, then walked over to the cabinet where the Board Games were. I pulled out Chess, Checkers, Yahtzee, and Battleships. I set them on the table, and we started out with Chess. It turned out with me making sure everything played out fair, then we moved on to Yahtzee.

I sighed as I lay in my bed for the last time for a while. I closed my eyes, letting sleep take over before I could think about the test I would have to take.
