Chapter 30
"Hamilton, it's time for your gift. This is for all you've done to help me in my endeavors," Richter said as he patted Hamilton on the back.
Richter and Hamilton stood in the field behind the Minister's palace. Richter slowly pointed up into the sky. As Hamilton looked up, he could hear a whirring sound coming from the distance. The sound grew louder, and suddenly Hamilton saw a large flying craft slowly make its way over a nearby hill.
"Richter, what the hell is that?" Hamilton asked in shock.
"I told you. It's your gift. The finest one in our fleet...after mine, of course. We call them airships. What do you think of it? I named it the Myrrhauder!" Richter said proudly.
"It's flying...amazing! How'd you do it?" Hamilton inquired.
"Those propellers keep it aloft. The propellers are powered by an engine that runs on myrrh," Richter stated.
"Myrrh? It must take a lot to power it," Hamilton commented.
"Not too terribly much. You'd be surprised just how powerful myrrh really is," Richter responded.
"You said fleet. How many airships did you build?" Hamilton asked.
"We currently have two airships completed, with two more being constructed as we speak," Richter answered.
The airship hovered above the field for a brief moment and then began to descend slowly. As the craft descended, three stabilizers emerged from each side of the lower hull. The airship finally landed on the field, held steady by the stabilizers.
"Well, come take a look. See what you think," Richter said as he began to walk toward the ship.
A door opened in the hull and a ramp extended down to the ground. A man emerged from the door and walked down the ramp.
"Ren, she's beautiful!" Richter shouted over the noise of the propellers and engine.
"Isn't she?!" replied Ren.
"Hamilton, this is Chief Engineer Ren Doyle, the man responsible for building this fine vessel!" Richter introduced.
"A pleasure to meet you, Sir," Hamilton greeted.
"Oh, please, just call me Ren. It's nice to finally meet you too, Hamilton. Richter has told me many great things about you," Ren noted.
"Ren will be staying on with you as airship captain for a while to help you get accustomed to the ship," Richter stated.
"Ah, well I have great reason to thank you both. Frankly, Richter, I'm not really sure I deserve such a grand gift," Hamilton said reservedly.
"Nonsense! Of course you do! Anyway, let's go on in and take a look. Ren, give us the grand tour!" Richter politely ordered.
"Absolutely!" Ren agreed as he turned and led the way into the airship.
