Chapter 34: The Redemption They Need

Very very short chapter, but it's very meaningful and significant, trust me. XD Enjoy!

The letter was still in my hand as I stopped to see the four walking together to their end.

Rosalina and Alexandra both stood beside each other. Dominic was behind them and Michael was at the front, leading them. I panted and ran up to them before they went any further.

“Stop!” I held out my hand. Michael already stopped in his tracks and backed up. His arm was still in a cast so he grabbed it  They all looked at me curiously. I held the note up and shook my head. “The four of you did things I couldn't even imagine you doing.”

They started to look down in shame. “That's why we're doing this.” Michael explained. I stepped up to him. “No! You're not turning yourselves in.”

“I know that sounds crazy, but I don't want you to go down like that. You all deserve that, even worse, actually. However,” I raised my finger and tried not to break down. “That wasn't what I healed you for.”

Alexandra shot her gaze up. “What?”

“Why not?” Michael questioned. I answered, “If I really did want you to suffer and go to prison, I wouldn't have healed you. So please… I know this doesn't sound right, and it really isn't right, but please don't turn yourselves in. I want each of you to have a chance at least at having a normal life without despair or hurt.”

Rosalina stepped closer to me, “But how can you forgive us like this? Even when we did all this to you and everyone else? How can you have mercy like that?”

I shrugged and chuckled, “If I were to be honest, I don't really know. But I know without those curses, you would be extraordinary people. With your skills and talents, all of you can be better than you think.”

The group looked at me with confused, surprised, or thankful faces. I sighed, “All I ask in return is that each of you stay in touch with me. I know it won't be easy getting adjusted to this, but now I want to make sure you all stay on the right track and become good people. After I move back to my hometown, I'll write to you. Hopefully, I can help you four through this.”

Alexandra nodded. “Rosalina and I will do our best, we promise!”

Dominic bowed, “I'll write every two weeks.” I smiled and nodded then looked at Michael, who stood there with his mouth open. He tried to say something, but nothing came out. He sighed and looked down.

“Thank you, Ritsuko...for everything.” Rosalina bowed. Alexandra followed suit and the two turned to go back to their home. Dominic nodded slowly, “Thank you, Ms. Akiyama.”

I was then left with Michael. He stood in front of me, still and silent. “Michael,” I took a deep breath, “I know you probably feel the most guilty. You were the one who lead all of them to do this. But don't be feel sorry forever. I know you have incredible skills and intuition. I'm sorry for what happened to you when you were younger. I know that doesn't really help, but…”

Michael still stood there. I wondered if he was even listening, then he chuckled. I was a little confused at this, so I backed up. He chuckled a little more and sniffled.

“Michael?”

He raised his head to me, showing that tears were slipping down his face as he laughed. “I’m sorry- ha ha! I just don't- get why you're apologizing!” he sniffled. I honestly didn't know how to react now.

Michael grabbed my wrist with his good hand and held me in place. I yelped instinctively and tried to pull away, but his grip was firm. “Stop apologizing!” He told me. “You have nothing to be sorry for, dammit! You were able to forgive all of us even when we tried to take everything away from you! I should be apologizing to you. Now I don't have to suffer alone forever with no one with me. Because of you, I can be like this!”

Tears streamed down even more as I stared at him. He breathed heavily with a whimper, “I promise, I'll never do anything like this. I won't make you regret giving me a second chance. Someday, I'll make it up to you. I promise.”

It took me a moment to process this. His expression suddenly faded away as he retreated a step. “I'm sorry. I got a little emotional there.” He started wiping his face and stepping back.

I placed my hand on his shoulder gently, making him jump. His blue eyes focused on me as I made him look at me. I smiled, “I can't wait to see what you become, Michael. I'm sure you'll be amazing.”

“Thank you, Ritsuko.” His voice broke then he looked down. I brought him into a soft hug. I had finally finished it. I healed them and now there was nothing for me to worry about it. Let me just say, I felt very successful.

Not only for healing the cursed ones and ending the chaos, but also for the relationships I made there.
