Chapter 40

Harry's POV

"Well, at least the spell is off him," Ginny sighed as we made our way towards the gargoyle that guarded the headmistress's office.

"Yes, that is a good thing, but are you sure he will be okay now?" Luna asked. "After everything that went down?"

"Well, I don't care if he is okay," Ginny raged. "He put us through so much trouble. He's the reason..."

"No, I think I know what Luna means," I interrupted. "He was under a spell so that's got to leave some kind of mark. Then he just came out of the trance to find a terrible situation. He's probably shocked and hurt."

"Wow, you forgave him quickly," she muttered.

"Hey, he's my best mate," I shrugged. "And he's your brother. Plus I know he's already feeling guilty for going with Abby and Vanessa. He says he doesn't remember ordering them to kill Hermione, but he thinks he did say it. They probably messed with his mind."

Ginny was silent for a minute but then her head shot up and she stopped. Luna and I were walking behind her so we ended up bumping into her

"What is it?" I asked.

She looked at me and said, "Abby and Vanessa. Do you know where they went?"

"What d'you mean?" I asked. "They were just up there on the top of the Astronomy tower." Then I realised exactly what that meant.

"Harry, they think their work is done. Don't you remember Draco's letter? He said the destheaters would try and split us up. They think they have dome that by killing Hermione. Their job is done."

"Which means..." I began but Luna cut me off.

"They're going to leave."

"And we won't know where they went. They could report back to the deatheaters." Ginny finished.

"Okay," I scratched the back of my head. "I'll go to McGonagall and you two go up to the Astronomy tower. If you manage to catch then, bring them down."

"Right," nodded Ginny. "We'll take Neville too."

"Okay," I told her. "But hurry up, Gin, we don't them to get away."

The two of them went the other way and I continued to walk towards McGonagall's office.

"Sherbet Lemon," I said and the gargoyles sprang apart. I stepped onto the moving spiral staircase and tapped my fingers on the rail impatiently.

When I heard a faint "Enter" after knocking on the Headmistress's door, I went in.

Professor McGonagall was sitting behind her desk, twiddling her thumbs. She was wearing a tartan dressing gown and her hair was in it's usual bun. However, what surprised me was the sight of the person sitting in the chair in front of her desk, his arms folder in his lap and his white blonde hair sticking up at odd angles

"Potter," said professor McGonagall. "Sit down." I took a seat next to Draco and resisted the urge to ask him what he knew about the deatheaters. It was obvious I would get the answers soon enough.

"Good evening, Professor," I tried to smile. I knew she was angry at me because I had not come to her when this whole thing hadstarted.

"Potter, why did you not come to me?" she asked.

"I dunno," I said. "I just thought I would tell the Order and you once things got out of hand."

"Potter, that was very irresponsible. When I noticed you and Mr Weasley were no longer on talking terms, and that he was spending all his free time with the two new girls, I figured something was up, "

"You knew about that?" I asked her, bewildered.

"Of course I did, Potter. I also figured you would come to me soon, but you didn't."

"I'm sorry," I bowed my head in shame.

"And had you come to me, this would not have happened. "

"Wait, how do you know...." I started but she cut me off.

"Draco here flooed to my office. The floo network has been tampered with. He came out and started rambling on and on about Miss Granger being in danger. He, unlike you told me about Abby and Vanessa. I ordered a search for them in the castle and found they were not here. Then we all heard the noise outside."

"Draco," I said, quickly turning towards him. "How are you?"

"Fine, I guess," he muttered. "You should've listened to me. I didn't write that letter for nothing."

"We started training the students," I told him.

"From the way things are looking, we'll need all the help we can get," he replied.

"Professor, " I said. "Have you talked to the Order?"

"Yes, I have, Potter. They're doing everything they can. They are preparing for another battle."

"Oh, okay," I said quietly. "Professor, the deatheaters are working for the werewolf: Greyback."

"Yes, Mr Malfoy told me that. How's Miss Granger doing?" Her tone was motherly and caring now.

"She's unconscious," I replied. "But madame Pomfrey says she'll be fine soon."

"Now tell me, Potter, what exactly happened?" Draco had become more attentive now too. So I told them everything that had happened right from the point where Ron was put under the spell, to the events of tonight.

"Ginny, Neville and Luna are with those two destheaters right now. We think they were going to make a run for it."

"Okay, I trust they can handle it. Is Mr Weasley alright?"

"Yes," I said. "He's with Hermione in the hospital wing right now."

"Alright, I think you should go to bed now, boys, but before you go, I have something to tell you both."

We both nodded and sat up straighter. She took her glasses off and wiped them on the edge of her dressing gown before putting them back on. After breathing in deeply, she began.

"First of all, Potter, when you came in, we were just discussing the new arrangements that have to be made after all that has happened. The destheaters expect Mr Malfoy to spy on us for them. He is supposed to be gathering information from us and passing it back to them and is expected to go back to the way he was before. In other words, you two will be enemies again. They expect all the Slytherins to work in secret and gather information. Mr Malfoy here is in charge. He will report back to Fenir Greyback. But in reality he will be doing the spying for us. He will pass false information and will lead the other Slytherins off course. But he will have to convince everyone that he is in fact working with the deatheaters."

It dawned on me that he would be a double agent. In the last war, Professor Snape had played that part and now it would be Draco.

"So he'll be like professor Snape?" I asked, just to be clear.

"Yes," answered professor McGongall. "But he will be in contact with you at all times. I trust Mr Weasley has an owl? And you do too, Mr Malfoy?"

Draco and I nodded solemnly and she smiled.

"Good. That's good." She hesitated for a second and then began speaking again. "The other thing I want to tell you will shock you, Potter. It was kept secret for a long time, but now, it is time that I told you."

I sat there nodding, dumbfounded. This was not new. Secrets had been kept from me in the past. The prophecy, Snape's relationship with my num and the fact that Voldemort's soul had lived within me were all things I had only found out last year. Now, however, I somehow knew that this particular secret would be the deadliest of them all.

"Before I tell you this Harry, just know that this was how your parents wanted it to be. They did not want you to know before you turned eighteen. I was going to tell you sooner, but then professor Dunmledore.." She motioned to the painting behind her whose occupant was sleeping peacefully. "Asked me not to But now, it seems that the time is right. I am sorry you had to learn about it this way."

I could not comprehend what she was saying. Did she just say my parents wanted it to be kept secret? It was no surprise that Dumbledore had not told me.

"Harry," said professor McGonigsl. "You have a sister."

"Er, what do you mean?" I was speechless. The only person that came to my mind at the word "sister" was Hermione. No one else. Here I was learning that I had a real sister: one who was actually related to me. I refused to believe it.

"That's not possible," I stated.

"I'm really sorry, Harry,"she said. "We should have told you, but after your mother heard the second prophecy, she..." But I cut her off. This wall too much to handle.

"Second prophecy?" I burst out.

"Yes, well, Lily did not know about the prophecy concerning you in her time at Hogwarts, but in her last year, one of her friends who was a Sear, made a prophecy. No one knew about it except her and Lily when she told het. It was about another child: a girl."

"A girl?" I asked disbelievingly.

"Yes," she replied. "It said that Lily was to have a girl as her second child. That girl would have extraordinary magic and she would have to work with The Chosen One to conquer another evil. Lily did not take it seriously at first since she had no idea who the chosen one was, but then when she did find out she would have another baby, she grew a little scared. When they found out about you, your parents were so happy, Harry, but then, after a month, they found out they were having twins."

"And how come no one told me about this?" I asked, my tone deadly.

"Because your mother did not want you to know. She did not have a choice. She really loved you both. But after you two were born and Lily was here to meet with Professor Dumbledore, another prophecy was made by Sibyl Trelawney. Your mother heard it since your sister was a baby and she could take her daughter's prophecy. This is what it said." She pushed a piece of paper towards me and I snatched it out of her hand. The slip of paper had neat writing on it that seemed oddly familiar.

*The Chosen One shall reap the soul of the Dark Lord.

He shall have the power the Dark Lord knows not.

His flesh and blood shall have also extraordinary powers.

She shall be a girl born

at the end of July.

At eighteen, the boy must find his kin before it is too late

And combine force to defeat the one with the black fur. *

I gasped. The prophecy was simple and I understood every word of it.

"Lily was scared. You and your sister were only a few months old and we wanted both of you to be safe. She began noticing strange things about your sister after she was born. Her powers were overwhelming and she panicked. The night before Voldemort cams to Godrick's Hallow, she came to ask Dumbledore for help. She was willing to do anything to keep you both alive. So professor Dumbledore told her to take your sister away. To America."

"What?" My mouth was wide open. "My...my sister is in America?"

"Yes. She was given to a foster family."

I was seething mad now. Foster family. That did not sound good. They could be treating her badly. If I had known, I could have taken her with me. The Dursleys were not exactly kind in the past, but at least we would have been okay if we were together.

"They are nice people, Harry," said Professor McGonagall sadly.

"How would you know that!?" I yelled. "You just told me I have a sister. I did not even know this for eighteen years! You kept it from me!"

"Harry, your mother and professor Dumbledore..."

"Dumbledore! Of course! He loves keeping secrets!" I admit I was yelling at the wrong person, but I was so angry. Professor Dumbledore had kept another important fact hidden from me. Granted my mother had been scared but, he had known it would have been okay to tell me.. Or would it?

"Harry, I'm sorry," said Professor McGonagall.

"It's okay," I sighed. "So what happens now?"

"The prophecy said you two must work together against Greyback and your mother wanted you two to meet when you were eighteen too, so you'll have to go meet her."

"But how do I find her?"

"She is in Rosewood Gardens, a small town in America. You will have to go there and find her."

"Great," I said. "I can go tomorrow."

"It's not that easy, Harry," she sighed. "The Order has been noticing mysterious disappearances in America as well as Britain. The deatheaters somehow found out about the prophecy."

"But how?" I gasped. I was scared now.

"We don't know that, but we know that they will be monitoring any new magical activity. You can be detected easily. Besides, it is not very safe here either. So here's what I want you to do. Go to Rosewood, find your sister and try to get close to her. Don't tell her who you are until she fully trusts you. Then, tell her about Hogwarts. You will be staying there for six months."

"What? That's too long! We need to be here! In case something happens..." I started to say.

"You don't get a choice, Harry," she said sadly and I clenched my teeth.

"Where will we stay there exactly?"

"We've already bought a house for you so you should be fine. I enrolled all six of you in the local High School too."

"Six of us?" I asked

"Yes, you, Miss Granger, Mr and Miss Weasley, Mr Longbottom and Miss Lovegood."

"Alright then," I said. "When are we leaving?"

"Next week."

"Okay, I will be going now. Good night professor," I said stiffly. I was not really angry anymore. It was just that the news was too overwhelming and I really wanted to be alone for a while.

"Good night, Harry." I walked out just as Ginny, Neville and Luna came in. They had Abby and Vanessa suspended in midair by invisible cords, but I did not stay long enough to see what happened next. I bolted out the door.

"We heard what happened." I looked up to see Ginny, Luna and Neville standing there. I was siting on the edge of the black lake and it was almost morning. Soft dew drops had fallen on the grass and the sky was clear with a tinge of light pink as the sun began to rise. The wind was cool and refreshing.

"Harry, it'll be okay," said Ginny, plopping down next to me. Luna and Neville did the same.

"I'm not scared," I murmured. "I just....didn't know I had a sister. I don't know how to......she doesn't know anything about magic...."

"So?" Luna asked. "We'll tell her when we meet her."

"Yeah," Neville put in. "And don't worry, she'll like you."

"I hope so," I said.

"Don't stress yourself out," Ginny said. "Think of all the fun we'll have. We'll be living a normal muggle life and get to find out how High School life feels!"

"I guess so," I replied. "And we'll have our own house too."

Ginny grinned, her eyes twinkling, Neville whooped and Luna smiled dreamily.
