Chapter 36
Harry's POV
Christmas morning dawned bright and cold. The sky was a startling blue with tiny white clouds marring its serene surface. It had snowed hard the previous night, leaving everything blanketed in white.
My eyes fluttered open to see the smiling face of Ginny standing next to the window. Her fiery hair was braided and hung off her left shoulder. She was clad in a maroon jumper with a capital G embroidered in gold on the front.
"Morning," I smiled walking over to her.
"Morning, Harry," she grinned back. "Merry Christmas!"
"You too!" I said, hugging her close. "Is everyone else awake?"
"Yeah. I was sent here to wake you up..."
"And?" I smirked knowing she was having trouble forming words.
"And nothing," she replied, grinning. "Come on, Seaweed Brain!"
There it was again. She had called me Seaweed Brain. I still had no idea where she got that from. I mean I don't like to brag but I did figure out the hallows and horcruxes. With Hermione's help.
"Hang on," I said. "I've got presents." Sure enough, a pile of perfectly wrapped presents was sitting at the foot of my bed. I leaned over, grinning like a small child, and started unwrapping them. Mr and Mrs Weasley had given me a box of chocolate frogs along-with one of Mrs Weasly's jumpers. Hermione had of course given me a set of muggle novels. Ginny had given me a picture frame with a picture of us by the black lake in it.
That left Ron and the death eaters. I felt a twinge of anger at Ron, seeing as he hadn't bothered with a present. There were two other presents. To my surprise, one of them was a perfectly wrapped silver wristwatch from Aunt Petunia and Dudley. I don't why I was surprised though. I knew they had changed but still, after getting preents that were along the lines of pennies taped to paper, and Uncle Vermon's smelly socks, a wristwatch seemed really nice. It looked to have cost a lot of money too so I found myself not regretting sending them the box of Honeydukes' best sweets, and laughed as I pictured Dudley's face when
he saw the sweets. I stifled a gasp when I saw Hagrid's present.
I had not gone to visit him at all and I felt terribly guilty about it. After the war, he had gone into the mountains with Fang and Fluffy claiming he needed some peace and quiet. I hadn't even checked to see if he was back, what with the deatheaters and everything. The note attached to the present was enough to make me laugh though.
*Get your arse to my cabin, Potter, and we'll see what happens to you. Ron was thoughtful enough to come but did Hermione and you come? Nooooo! Enjoy the cakes!*
He had sent me his famous rock cakes that really were as hard as rock. Wait, I thought, and checked the note again. Ron had visited him?
"What is it?" Ginny asked, raising her eyebrows.
"Ron went to visit Hagrid," I told her, amazed.
"Are you sure?" Ginny asked. "I mean, he isn't exactly... er..."
"Right in the head these days. I know, but Hagrid says he did go to see him."
"That's strange," she admitted. "Come on, let's go down to breakfast and tell Mione."
When we were out of the room and had reached the first floor landing, she turned back to me, her chocolate brown eyes shinning.
"Thanks for the bracelet. It's gorgeous." She held up her hand and I grinned at the thought of her deciding to wear it. I had had no idea what to get her. I would have gotten her a new pair of shoes had Hermione not told me that shoes were not exactly what Ginny would want for Christmas.
"I'm glad you like it, Gin," I said. "I was about to buy a pair of shoes but Hermione talked me out of it."
"Smart girl she is," she laughed. "When did you go shopping though?"
"Ask no questions and you shall hear no lies," I told her as we entered the kitchen. The truth was, I had not gone shopping, except for Ginny's present which I had bought a long time ago way before the school year started and Hermione had gone with me. I had intended to give it to her when we went back to Hogwarts but it had completely slipped my mind. I had gotten Dobby to get the other presents last night after we had come back.
He had gotten everything I had asked for: a book on Charms for Hermione, a magic razor for Mr Weasley kind of like the one Bill and Fleur and given me last year, a complete collection of Lockhart books for Mrs Weasley, a box of sneezing powder for George, a new pair of dragon-skin gloves for Charlie, a small golden wristwatch for Bill, a delicate pair of china doves for Fleur, a diary that kept on shouting at you to do your work for Percy, a book on taking care of blast ended skrewts for Hagrid, and a signed Chudley Cannons broomstick for Ron.
I knew Ron would come round one day so I had decided to get him the broomstick even-though it had cost a lot, and I had had to order it beforehand. I knew It would be worth it when I gave it to him though.
"Thanks for the book Harry," Hermione shrieked as soon as I sat down. "I wanted this forever! It even has the Flopwalking charm in it!" I rolled my wyes but smiled anyway.
"Merry Christmas, dear," said Mrs Weasley, piling toast on my plate. "Does the jumper fit okay?"
"Perfectly, Mrs Weasley," I grinned. "Thanks."
"It was no problem, dear," she replied bending over and kissing my forehead to which George and Bill started sniggering. Bill, Fleur, Percy and Charlie were all staying over for the day.
"Hey Hermione," I said once breakfast was over. "Did Hagrid send you something?"
"Oh my God, yes he did," she exclaimed. "Harry, we've been so horrible. We should have gone to see him!"
"I know," I said. "Let's not forget that when we go back. He told me Ron's been to see him!"
"What?" she gasped. "That's not possible!"
"I know right?" Ginny sighed, coming over and plopping down on the grass next to us.
"Maybe he," she paused. "Maybe he had one of those moments. You know, when he becomes normal for a while but then goes back to being under the spell."
"That's our best bet," I sighed. "I really hope he comes back..." I had been thinking about Ron a lot the previous night and I had found that I actually missed him. It had been months since we had had a proper conversation. I missed the times we used to play wizards chess and he beat me every time. I missed talking to him during lessons and at Quiditch practices.
"Hey, Harry," Ginny piped up all of a sudden. "I forgot to tell you: Andromeda's coming over with Teddy!"
"T.....T....Teddy...." I said, disbelievingly, and then whispered, "Teddy Remus Lupin...."
