Chapter 30

Ginny's POV

The sun was beaming softly down at us and its warm rays were lit up the meadow we always used as a Quiditch pitch . The sky was a clear sapphire blue with not a single cloud in sight.

"Okay, so I pick Abby and Vanessa," said George once we had all mounted our brooms and were floating a few feet off the ground. "And Harry can have Ron and Ginny."

"But I want to be on Ron's team!" Vanessa said in a baby voice.

"Trust me, you don't want to be on his team. He is horrible at Quiditch!" George snorted.

"I'm a good keeper, George. You haven't seen me play," Ron retorted, his ears flaming red. "I'm on the Gryffindor Quiditch team."

"I bet Harry chose you just because you two are best mates." said George, and it was obvious that his remark had filled the atmosphere with tension. It was so thick that it could have been cut with a knife. Harry refused to look at Ron and was looking down at the ground as if in search of something, and Ron was glaring daggers at the top of Harry's head. Abby and Vanessa had identical smirks pasted on their faces.

I realised that they were not only against us but against Ron too because they had started nodding in agreement to George's words and their faces showed nothing but contempt. They were nice to Ron just because he was under their spell. To them, Ron was a mere pawn.

"Erm, so," George cleared his throat." Let's start, shall we?"

"I am not Harry's best mate," Ron said flatly before taking off into the air. After a moment of just staring at each other, we took off too. Ron was guarding the goals and Harry was now frantically looking for the snitch. That made me the chaser and beater. On the other team, George was the beater and chaser, Vanessa was the seeker and Abby was left to guard the goal post.

The plan was to make it look like George was quickly growing fond of Abby and Vanessa, and he would make them believe that he was no longer on Harry's side. I just hoped it worked.

Five minutes into the game, George yelled, "Vanessa, look out!" I had just sent a bludger sailing towards Vanessa's head, and I grinned in triumph as it hit her on the side of her head. She let out a girly squeal and George and Abby rushed over to her side. The side of her head was gradually swelling.

"Here, take this," said George gently, taking a tiny vial that was filled with a pale blue liquid out of his pocket.

"What is that?" Abby inquired suspiciously.

"A healing potion I came up with. It'll help ease the pain."

Vanessa took the vial gingerly from George's hand, and sniffed it slowly before downing the contents in one go. She turned to George and said, her lips curved into a smirk,"I didn't know you could make potions that well,"

George grinned. "There are a lot of things you don't know about me."

The game resumed soon after that and twice George saved Vanessa from getting hit by a bludger that I had tossed at her. Abby did a horrible job of protecting the goal and I had scored thirty points already. Vanessa was now cautiously looking around for the snitch. Ron, who was supposed to be guarding our goalpost was aimlessly flying around the meadow and I gritted my teeth. It was obvious what was going on.

"Ron, you prat! Guard the goal!" I screamed.

"I'll do what I want, ginger! Stay out of my way!" he yelled back. Ginger, I thought. Wasn't that an insult for him too? He clearly had no idea.

"Don't you talk to her like that, Ron," Harry burst out.

"What are you going to do about it, Potter?" Ron's voice was dripping with venom.

"He'll probably go ask his mummy for help! Seeing as he can never go without people's help!" Vanessa jeered. George chose this moment to intervene and I thought that he could not have chosen a better time.

"Except he doesn't have a mum." he laughed."Or a dad." I knew he was only saying that to convince Abby and Vanessa and so did Harry.

"George, what....?" Harry stammered. Wow, I had not known he was such a good actor.

"What's the matter, Potter?" George said."Cat caught your tongue?" Abby laughed and Vanessa and Ron joined in.

"Who's side are you on, George?" I yelled.

"Isn't it obvious? I lost more than Fred that day! Life is not about being happy. It's about being in power. You can't live without it and clearly, he does not have power!" He pointed at Harry. "The Dark Lord did, and he should have survived. Not Potter. Without the dark lord, the world is a no good piece of rubbish! He was right! Mudbloods and blood traitors have to be wiped out. The closest thing to getting him back is to carry on his work and I intend to do just that!

My only thought after George's short speech was: How did he memorise all that? Last night, we had written that whole thing down for him to learn by heart.

Vanessa grinned and moved forward. "Looks like another Weasley has got some sense in him." She did not elaborate but it was enough to let us know that so far the plan had worked.

At that moment, the quafle came flying at me and I realised we were still playing. Catching it quickly, I flew towards the goalpost where Abby was floating midair. She smirked as I got nearer and I glared at her. I threw the quaffle with all my might and let out a whoop when it shot through the hoop. Harry was circling the meadow and was gazing at every tiny detail with watchful eyes. I hoped he found the snitch soon.

After another fifteen minutes, I was hurling towards the goal post with the quaffle when Harry called out,"We won!" In his hand was the snitch. Ron huffed and Vanessa, Abby and George glared at him. We had won by a margin of one hundred and seventy points.
