Chapter 26
Ginny's POV
It had now been three days since we stopped talking to Ron. He now spent all his time with Vanessa and Abby and Harry and I tried our best to steer clear of them. To be honest, Ron was sort of reminding me of how Draco had been before this year and Vanessa and Abby were exactly like Pansy Parkinson.
We spent our time in the library where we'd test each other on charms and transfiguration theory since the N.E.W.Ts were five months away. Harry would test us first and then Hermione would test him before both of them tested me. The Gryffindor Quiditch team had won three matches until now, one of which had been against Slytherin. We had lost one and that was because Ron kept leaving his position to show off in front of Abby and Vanessa. But we had managed to get the lead in the Quiditch Cup.
As the days went by, Christmas drew nearer and before we knew it, the last day before the holidays was upon us. Nobody was taking lessons very seriously, but just to make Hermione happy, Harry and I pretended to be interested in them but when she was not looking, we'd pass notes to each other and we tried hard to hide our smiles when one of us wrote something funny.
We still had our DA meetings, but after a short debate about whether we should be worried about Ron telling Abby and Vanessa about it, but then we had agreed that since Professor McGongall knew about it and so did Kingsley who was the minister of magic, there was nothing to worry about. If Abby and Vanessa did manage to tell the deatheaters, Hogwarts was heavily guarded by incantations and spells and we were sure to know when an attack was coming.
Our last lesson was Potions and Hermione, Harry and I were trying to finish our potion in time. Professor Slughorn was sitting at the front desk, observing us with watchful eyes.
"Hermione, it looks fine," Harry whined. "I think we're done now." He looked up from the grey mixture he had been mixing for the past five minutes and wiped his forehead that was dripping with sweat.
"Yes, I think it looks perfect , Harry." Hermione said stiffly. "Excuse me, I'll go get this graded."
Harry raised his brows, curiously.
"Er, what was that all about?" he asked curiously.!I looked at the front desk and pointed.
Ron and Vanessa were standing there with Abby trailing behind. Professor Slughorn was looking at them, apparently impressed. He was saying appraising words and beaming. "Twenty points to Gryffindor!"
Normally , it would be Hermione who would earn points for Gryffindor during lessons.
"Is Hermione going to The Burrow for Christmas?" Harry asked me.
"She said something about spending it with her parents," I told him."Where are you going to go? Mum told me to invite you over." I was hoping he would come stay with us because I really didn't feel like spending Christmas there without Harry while Ron was there.
"I'll come," said Harry, grinning as we joined Hermione outside the classroom. Hermione's face was set in a firm scowl as we made our way to the Room of Requirement for the last DA meeting before Christmas. Hermione had managed to learn the Frunzio charm but I was still having trouble with it. Harry had taught us a bunch of other new spells but they had all worked out for me. I was determined to master the Frunzio charm today because I knew Harry would be reviewing all that we had learnt over the past few days.
"Okay, I want everyone to work in pairs for this one," said Harry an hour into the meeting."Let's practice the Frunzio charm."
Harry came over to us and asked Hermione to do the spell on me. The feeling had become pretty familiar now, seeing as I would go through this almost everyday when we practiced on our own. I felt like there was no one in the world but me and I was floating on clouds, without a care in the world.
When the spell lifted, everyone was in hysteric laughing fits. I turned and glared at Harry.
"What did she make me do?" I demanded, my arms folded across my chest.
Harry backed away slightly.
"Well, let's just say, now we know how you sound like when you sing Celestina Warback, what you look like when you do the Mexican Hat-dance and what you write in your journal." He cleared his throat. Then he lowered his voice and whispered. "If you like sitting by the lake with me so much, we can do it everyday." I scowled and he straightened up. "Anyway, how about you try the spell now?"
"Oh, sure," I said, determinedly."I've got an idea, Potter. I want to try it on you."
"You sure?" I mean, you could perfect it while you do it on Hermione and once you get it right, you can show me?" Harry stuttered and I smirked.
"No, I'm pretty sure I can do it just fine on you."
"Well, okay, " Harry surrendered."If that's what you want."
I readied my wand and said, "Frunzio." Harry's eyes glazed over for a minute and his mouth hung open.
"I want you to do ten jumping jacks, Harry," I said sweetly. He started doing as he was told but snapped out of it on the fifth jump.
"Nice try, Gin," he smiled. "You're almost there. But next time, try to move your wand a little more after the spell has been cast. Swish it from left to right."
"Okay," I resigned."I will get back at you, Harry. Remember that."
"Hmm. Exactly when will that be?" he smirked.
"At the next DA meeting so everyone here can see just how crazy Harry Potter is."
We made our way to lunch feeling exhilarated and joyful, all in high spirits for the holidays.
After lunch, while Harry and Hermione talked to Luna, I was stopped by a tap on my shoulder. It was Ron. His expression was unreadable.
"Are you going home for Christmas?" he asked me.
"Of course I am. It's a family tradition, or have you forgotten that?" I asked stiffly.
"I haven't forgotten. I just thought you would go with Harry or Hermione," he said.
"They're both family. Harry's coming over to spend Christmas with us."
"And Hermione?" he asked.
"Why do you care?" I spat. "I suppose you'll be off somewhere with them." I jerked my head towards Abby and Vanessa who were making their way to the doors.
"I will be with them, but they'll be at our house with us."
"WHAT?" I retorted."How could you invite them over?"
"They're friends of mine," he shrugged and followed Abby and Vanessa's retreating backs. I turned, ready to tell Harry the new piece of news.
