crush
"Hey, Blubity," A voice beside me chirps, and I look over, raising an eyebrow at my friend, Jacobs, laying next to me. "You talking to any chicks? You know, like a crush or something?" Jacobs asks me, nudging my side as he looks right at me, his expression teasing me. I take a moment to reply, the back of my head resting on my hands as I collect my thoughts. I'm not usually one for teasing, but.. maybe I could try.
"Yeah, I am." I say, returning the others gaze.
"Really?! Shit, who is it?" his eyes widen, and I can tell he's eager to know.
"Not telling." is all I say with a smug look on my face.
"Aww, dammit, Blubity, you're no fun. Can you at least describe her to me? Pretty please?" he pouts. I only sigh and nod.
"Fine. For starters, she's got the best curly, brown hair."
"Only I have the best curly brown hair." Jacobs comments.
"Okay, okay, then second best." I laugh at him, then examine his facial features. He only gets more prettier the more I stare.
"She's got those kinds of eyes that make you drown in thought, you know? It makes you think about how pretty she is. Oh, and makes you wonder what her eye color is even supposed to be." I continue.
Jacobs's face scrunches up, and I can tell he's trying to think of all the people he knows with those kinds of eyes. If only he knew how mesmerizing his eyes were, even if I don't get this close with him often.
"She's got lots of piercings too. It makes her stand out from everyone else. She looks really cool with them."
"Oh, really?" Jacobs asks. I knew that would pique his interest. He loves piercing himself.
"Yeah. On her face, on her ears.. probably has some I don't even know about." I look up at the sky. "She's really a dream."
"You're really cheesy. You make me sick."
"You're not any better, you know."
"Hey, I'm wayyy better!" Jacobs huffed. "I've got the best pick up lines."
"Hit me with one." I challenge.
"Uhh.." he trails off, then shakes his head. "Keep describing her to me."
Oh, how I love this boy. I shake my head, a snicker escaping my lips. "She's got a really nice fashion sense. She likes geometrical shapes a ton. At least, that's what I think."
"Hey, I like geometrical shapes."
"I know, Jacobs." I smile, then continue. "Her personality is amazing. Wild. I don't really know how to describe it."
"First me, now her? Huh, you're like a magnet, dude."
"Guess so. She's kind of irresponsible, but.. she's nice. To me. Very nice. Maybe not around others, but I know she cares about me whenever I'm with her."
"Oooh, sounds like she likes you back."
"You think so?"
"I mean, don't take my word for it." Jacobs puts his hands up for a second.
"I don't think I will." I say, shaking my head. Even if I was actually looking for relationship advice, I wouldn't go to him, knowing how many partners he's had in the past. "She does risky things sometimes. It's a little worrying, but.. I just care about her a lot."
"You care about a lot of people."
"I know I do. It's hard not to."
"You're strange."
"Am I?"
"Keep going, you're getting distracted again."
"Your fault," I nudge him carefully, snickering. "Okay. What else is there? Oh, she's strong. Really strong. She had lots of things happen to her, but she still gets by. I really admire that."
"She seems like a nice person."
"She is. She really is. She doesn't see it, but she is." I close my eyes. My heart is beating so quickly. I guess just speaking about the person I love makes me get so excited. There's a bit of a silence between us, but Jacobs breaks it.
"This is about me, isn't it?" I do a double take. How did he catch on so soon? Maybe I'm just bad at this.
"What makes you think that, Jacobs?" I ask, looking at him, trying to remain calm.. at least, remain looking calm.
"I'm the only person I know- no, actually, I'm the only person who has amazing, curly brown hair. I've also gotten questions about what the hell my eye color is. Everyone's so confused about it.. even me," Jacobs shrugs. "Anyway. I've got lots of piercings, just like her. I do risky stuff that probably worries you. Oh, and you've said I'm strong before. I remember that. Plus, you look like I just caught you red handed, babyy." he winks at me. I roll my eyes.
"What happens if I am talking about you? What would you say?" I ask, staring at him. He gives me a frightened look for a second - one that he usually gives once I stare at him with a more serious look on my face.
"Well..." he hums, and grabs my sweater, pulling me closer. "I'm interested in you too."
What.
WHAT.
Jacobs laughs at me. I can feel my face turning warmer by the second, and before I can even reply, he gives me a peck on my lips before sitting up. Now I'm just laying there, red-faced on the grass like a fool. Damn it, Jacobs.
"You're cute." he says, obviously trying to contain his laughter.
"Yeah, and you're mean." I snicker back, sitting up too.
"Didn't you call me nice earlier?"
"I take that back."
"No you don't."
"You're right, I don't." I shake my head in defeat. Jacobs only pats my back, smiling ever so slightly. Lord, he was so cute.
Jacobs and I stare at the sky for what seems like forever. Maybe I had made this awkward, but for some reason, this didn't seem awkward. It was a comfortable silence between us and the sky. I wondered if we could stay like this forever.
"I meant what I said, by the way." Jacobs blurts again.
"I know."
"So.. you gonna say anything about it?"
"I love you. That's what I'm going to say." Did I really just say that? Barffff, that sounded better in my head. It seems like it got to him though, considering his red face.
"..Fuck you." he says after a minute.
"Huh?" I tilt my head. Man, he was strange.
"Sorry, it slipped. I just.. don't know what to say. I mean, I know what to say. I just.. can't say it."
"It's okay." I stare at Jacobs with a forgiving smile. I want to ease his nerves about this. Even if he was only screwing with me, I want him to know I'll always be by his side. Forever and always.
"Can I kiss you again?" he then asks, seeming shy about it. I've never seen him this hesitant.
I pause, but nod. "..Of course." I awkwardly chuckle. He's not the only one who's flustered here. Hell, I'm probably more flustered than him. It only gets worse as I feel Jacobs's hands gently grab my chin, pulling me towards him carefully as we share yet another kiss. He's so gentle with this, which sort of surprises me, but doesn't at the same time. He's really so, so great, beside the lingering taste of cigarettes on his lips. We can work on that together.
I wonder how he's feeling. Does this feel as good to him as it does for me? How do I taste to him? Am I breathing too hard? Jesus Christ, this is much more intense then I thought it would be. Last time it was only a little peck, but now we're actually sharing this moment together.
"Hey, Earth to Blubity, hellooo?" I suddenly hear Jacobs say, and I snap out of my little trance. I lean back, shaking my head as I clear my throat.
"Sorry."
"Don't apologize. Guess we should stop for the night, yeah? Just so you don't combust." he laughs as he stands up, giving me a hand. I take it and stand up too, keeping my hand in his. It felt oddly nice.
"Let's go home." he says to me, and we start to walk off. Yeah. Let's go home. I need to process this for a minute. Or two. Or three. There are lots of things that I am unsure about right now, but one thing is for certain - I love Jacobs Karl. So much.
