Chapter 7
We step outside of our door just as the guys' door is opening. Damn, they look handsome. Sam has on navy blue slacks and a crisp white button-down shirt; the rolled-up sleeves reveal his muscular forearms, and you can barely see his chest hairs peeking out of the top of his shirt.
Pete is wearing black slacks and a red V-neck cotton shirt. I look over at Millie, "Did you two plan this?" Both Pete and her shake their heads no and laugh.
Sam's cologne smells fantastic; I breathe it in as he hugs me.
"You look incredible," he whispers sweetly into my ear.
"You look pretty incredible yourself," I say. "Damn, you smell pretty amazing, too."
He leans back and kisses my forehead. "Thank you."
The four of us walk hand in hand down the corridor. Two women are standing outside their room, and we can hear their discussion even though we're not entirely up to them yet.
"It's like they have fallen off the face of the earth," says the brunette.
"I know. I haven't seen or heard from Lucy since the first night, and now I can't find Kelly, " is the blonde's response.
"Do you think she met back up with that guy from last night?" asks the brunette.
The blonde replies, "I don't think so. While we were at the pool today, Kelly didn't mention that she's hooking up with him again, but she did mention that she had not seen Lucy yet today."
The brunette shakes her head. "Yeah, she said something about Lucy talking to one of the ship's staff at the bar, and she's not seen her since. She also said that she would try to find him after dinner to ask him about Lucy. She was to meet us back here before going to the club, and she never showed up."
"Do you think we should notify someone?" the blonde asks with concern.
"What if they're hooking up with some guys? I don't want to embarrass them," the brunette responds.
"I guess." The blonde doesn't sound convinced.
"I'll tell you what, if we don't see them by breakfast tomorrow, we'll talk to someone on the staff," the brunette reassured the blonde, and they turned towards the elevators.
We kept walking straight ahead.
Sam and I look at each other. Our instincts tell us something is very, very wrong.
"Did you hear that?" I ask Sam, already knowing the answer.
He nods, "Yeah, I did. Two girls are missing. I don't like the sound of that."
"Me either. The woman hasn't seen the one girl since last night. Whether you're hooking up or not, you always check in with your girls, so they don't worry," I replied, unable to hide the concern in my voice.
"I was thinking the same thing." Sam looked down at me with his brows furled.
Millie interrupts our conversation. "What are you two talking about over there? It seems pretty deep; care to share?"
We look at each other, and right away, we know what each other is thinking. Somehow, Millie missed the conversation going on with the two women, and neither one of us wanted to concern her.
I think fast and decide to change the subject. "Have you two talked about excursions for tomorrow?" I ask Pete.
Sam smiles at me knowingly. Our first port of call destination is Cabo San Lucas.
Pete's eyes light up. "We did check it out. We're hoping that you ladies would join us."
Millie and I smile at each other before Millie answers, "That depends on what excursion you two picked."
Pete smirks. "We're hoping to pick one together."
Awww--- maybe Pete's not as annoying as I thought.
"Of course, we'd like to pick something where you two will be in sexy bikinis." He wiggles his eyebrows.
Nope, he's still annoying, but Millie laughs. "We can arrange that."
"Why don't we talk about it at dinner?" Sam says. We all agree and make our way to Cagney's Steakhouse.
Dinner was fabulous. We all ordered New York strip steaks. They were prepared perfectly for each of our preferences. I'm happy with my choice of dress tonight because it hides my food, baby. Conversation flowed easily over dinner. We talked about our options for an excursion and had several excellent choices: sailing, 4x4 ATV tours, whale watching, and kayaking. The decision was unanimous; we decided on kayaking.
While excited about tomorrow, I couldn't stop thinking about what Sam and I overheard earlier. He must be occupied with those thoughts because Pete mentioned the club, and Sam shook his head.
"I would like a nice quiet evening with Cindy if you don't mind."
My heart swells. Millie glances at me and winks, and I feel warmth filling my cheeks.
Pete looks at Millie, "What do you say? Does dancing at the club sound good to you?"
Millie grins. "Hell, yeah!" She looks over her shoulder at me. "Have fun, you two."
I give her a little wave and lean into Sam. "Where to?"
He gives me a smirk. "The Sugarcane Mojito Bar?"
"Sounds perfect."
He kisses the top of my head and moves his arm around my waist, guiding me towards the bar. The Sugarcane Mojito Bar is on the same side of the ship as the steakhouse where we just ate. We took a walk through Tradewinds and the tax-free shops before reaching the bar and getting a table out on the deck. A cocktail waitress comes over, welcomes us, and gives us a Mojito menu. We spend several moments in comfortable silence, looking over the menu.
I speak first, "Damn, I didn't know that there were so many ways to make a Mojito. I can't decide on just one, so I'll get a flight."
Sam nods. "I was thinking the same thing. Between the two of us, we can try all the ones on the menu." His eyes are bright with anticipation.
"I like how you think, Detective."
The waitress returns, and we place our order.
Sam moves his chair closer to me and takes my hand. "This is nice."
I smile. "It is." The wind blows through my long blonde hair.
"I hope that you don't mind my forwardness, but you're the most beautiful woman that I've ever had the pleasure to lay my eyes on, and I am enjoying our time together. I would like to see where this goes after this trip is over." He blushes sweetly and leaves me speechless.
Instead of giving him an answer, I lean in and place my lips on his soft lips. Our first kiss is sweet and gentle. We linger just a moment before pulling away.
"I would love that," I say breathlessly.
The waitress returns with our drinks, and we begin taste-testing our selections.
"So, what are your thoughts about those missing women?" I ask while sipping the raspberry guava Mojito.
He licks the pineapple coconut Mojito from his lips, and a shiver goes down my spine. Damn!
"I don't know." He rubs his chin. "I can't help but think that something is happening. Call it my detective intuition, but I would like to try to look into this, starting with talking to those two ladies."
"Room 8740," I quickly respond.
He looks at me, and a smile spreads across his handsome face. "Impressive!"
I grab another Mojito and grin shyly at him from over the top of the glass.
