Chapter Twenty-Two - Already Dangerous Enough
💥
The doctor's mission was supposedly a simple one. A few members of the league were needed to transport one of his experiments to another location. Easy enough, so easy in fact that you insisted Jin send clones of you instead of all of you actually going. What with the league trying to lay low and everyone still healing.
The doctor wasn't informed that it wasn't actually you, Dabi, Atsuhiro, and Shuichi who picked up his experiment, but he didn't need to know either.
From your talk with the doctor later that night you gathered that heroes had attacked the transport. You made up an excuse about not being in the right physical state to face the Number One Hero and having to retreat and the doctor easily accepted it. He was upset that his precious experiment was lost, but apparently, he still had eyes on him so the situation wasn't hopeless.
"The experiment didn't look like a Nomu. Did the doctor tell you anything about him?" You asked Tomura after pulling him into the kitchen to speak away from the doctor's communication device.
"He has a power similar to Master."
"He can steal Quirks?"
"A limited amount. He went to the doctor willingly to gain more power." Tomura paused and seemed to ponder for a few moments, "I want you to watch over him. The doctor put a tracker in his body during the experiments. I can get you his location."
"Is this a mission?"
"Yes."
"And I'm only to observe?"
"Intervene if you must or feel like it. I want to see what he does and if he serves his purpose."
"And what purpose would that be, Tomura?"
Tomura grinned, "To cause some chaos."

Later that day you found yourself on a boat to Nabu Island. The night that Nine - as the doctor and Tomura called him - got out of the transport, there was an attack on the man with a cell regeneration Quirk. Reports said the man's Quirk worked on Type B blood, according to the doctor that wasn't Nine's blood type. The man did, however, have two children - one of which was registered with the same Quirk as his father. The only difference being it worked on all blood types.
So, long story short you were sent ahead to scope out the island if Nine did end up coming for the man's kids. If not, then you'd have a nice couple of days on a remote island at the height of the summer.
There were only a few other people on the transport boat with you, considering Nabu Island was a lesser-known destination. Despite that, you were sure to play up the part of the young tourist with your clothing and overall attitude. Inside of your flowery suitcase was your mask and cape. None of the poor souls around you knew who they were sitting near.
Stepping off of the boat, your stomach immediately dropped. There were heroes on the beach- no, not heroes. Heroes in training. Specifically Class 1-A.
"Are you fucking kidding me?" You asked yourself out loud, wondering what you had done to incur the universe's wrath.
Keeping your head down, you followed the rest of the tourists to the only inn on the island. A rather large place, but holding the same "small town" charm as the rest of Nabu. Thanks to the new money the LoV had come into, there was a suite put down under your name which you gladly took the key for.
Stepping into the room, you sighed, dropped your bag, and flopped onto the bed.
"I hate my life," you groaned loudly, pulling out your phone.
Kind of a Cult
DoubleQuirkedUp: Tomura, I officially hate you for sending me on this mission. I can deal with a lot of shit, but this is where I draw the line
MultiplePersonalities: MUTINY
MultiplePersonalities: lets overthrow him and the government
MultiplePersonalities: What's wrong?
DoubleQuirkedUp: Class 1-A is here. It must be some program UA is doing
LoseMyMarbles: Oh my. That's quite unfortunate
DIYCosplayer: Yeah that really sucks
DoubleQuirkedUp: YOU THINK?!
CultLeader: keep going with the mission. they should make things interesting
HarleyQuinn: Is Izuku there? Or Ochako? Or Tsu? Oh, can you PLEASE get me some blood? Call it a souvenir! (灬 ͡♥ ͜ʖ ͡♥灬)
DoubleQuirkedUp: I'm not getting you blood as a souvenir
HarleyQuinn: Meanie ( T ʖ̯ T)
BurntChickenNugget: they haven't seen your face so youll be fine
You glared at your phone. Dabi knew damn well that they knew what your face looked like. You'd never told him outright what you did when you went out, but he never told you about Hawks either. The two of you could figure each other out easily, and it was biting you in the ass. You went to your private chat with Dabi.
You motherfucker
BurntChickenNugget: you're the one who started a forbidden romance
YOU HAD ONE TOO
BurntChickenNugget: and you figured it out along with my fucked up past. of course i'd figure you out as payback.
BurntChickenNugget: both of us know the risks. Im willing to deal with hawks in the future if/when things go south. what are you gonna do?
You didn't respond to that because he was right. Entering into whatever you had with Katsuki was dangerous from the start. You never thought it would develop the way it did, but now you were stuck being in lo- caring for someone who couldn't feel the same way. You knew every step of the way what could happen. From being arrested to being heartbroken, and you did it anyway. The situations you got into because of your choices were on you and no one else.
You waited to leave your room until the sun was setting. The heroes would probably still have a night watch, but they definitely wouldn't be as active. It would give you a chance to scope out the island before Nine showed up- if he did. Now you were hoping all of your intel and intuition was wrong so you could leave Nabu faster and go somewhere else.
Despite the fact that the sun was gone, the island was still warm at night. It allowed you to wear normal clothes - something other than a black long sleeve and jeans - and the comfort of it was nice.
All in all, Nabu was pretty straightforward geography wise. Most of the people lived near the shore, although there were a few houses here or there- either farms or simply solitary people. Aside from the congregated population on the shoreline was a forested area in the back and a bridge to an even smaller island with the ruins of a castle on it.
If Nine were to attack, then the kids he was after wouldn't have very many places to hide. Not if he had a tracking related Quirk either.
"Poor kids," you whispered. They didn't know what was coming for them, living on such a peaceful island. They wouldn't be ready for it. The UA kids might be, but would they be enough?
Approaching the temporary 1-A hero agency, you slowed down when you heard voices outside.
"... so hurry up and make that Quirk your own instead of his. Then we can finally have a real fight. I'll prove it to you once and for all. I'm gonna be the number one hero, and you're gonna be in my dust."
"Yeah. I'll work as hard as I have to until this power is truly mine. And then I'll be the greatest hero in the world!"
"Yeah, whatever. I'm gonna be greater than the greatest." Katsuki's statement made a smile stretch across your lips. It was such a petty comeback, but it was so Katsuki that you couldn't help but smile.
... you missed talking to him.
Letting out a silent sigh, you backed away from your hiding place and turned around, heading back the way you came. You couldn't risk Katsuki or Midoriya seeing you since they knew you best out of the class.
The consequences for your actions were yours alone to deal with. Being heartbroken was one of them.
~*~
The next day you woke up and decided to explore the castle ruins. They were far from the most populated areas on Nabu, and it would be a fun adventure while waiting for Nine's possible arrival.
You spent most of the day on the smaller offshoot of Nabu Island. Having packed lunch before you left the hotel, you ate under one of the stone archways in the shade before continuing your hike around the ruins.
It wasn't exceptionally large, so you finished exploring soon after eating lunch, but you remained on the island all the same. It was safe there, and you had a pair of modified binoculars in your bag so you could observe what was going on on the main island while you relaxed.
The groupchat became filled with pictures of your exploring the ruins, and the rest of the league expressed their jealousy at your vacation. Obviously, it was "an act of stupid favoritism" on Tomura's part. All of them were aware you were on a mission, but the details of it were kept between you and Tomura. The Doctor said that Nine wasn't the League's concern anymore, and while Tomura obviously begged to differ since he sent you, he was also smart enough to know you had to be discreet.
The sun was setting by the time you were ready to head back to the hotel and call it a day. Stretching, you idly watched the shoreline. There seemed to be a new tourist boat coming... exceptionally fast.
Pulling your binoculars from your bag, you watched the boat go full steam ahead- crashing into the docks and tipping over onto its side. On an island where nothing ever happened, how likely was it that such an incident wasn't related to Nine?
Setting your binoculars aside into your bag, you instead pulled out your mask and cape. You always had them on you just in case, but you'd need to get back to the hotel to change out of your tourist clothes at some point.
Making your way down the hillside, you used the binoculars to watch the chaos. It seemed that Nine had friends of his own. They were probably staying on the down-low while he was being experimented on which was why neither the league or doctor knew about them.
Near the harbor was a woman with bright red hair, and a man with a mutant Quirk was at the beach. Further into the city was a man with some sort of fabric Quirk. But where was Nine?
Having crossed the bridge, you focused on the Energy signatures around you. It was a clear path to the hotel, so you hurried there and changed into something more appropriate for Energy the supervillain.
The one with the mutation Quirk was still on the beach facing... Todoroki, Iida, and a few others (you knew the first two's Quirk Cores best thanks to Hosu). In the shopping district were Kirishima and Kaminari, with the villain with the fabric Quirk obviously out of commission due to his low energy signature. Katsuki was on the move, his firework-like Quirk Core flickering across the sky, much clearer than his actual body with how fast he was going.
Curious as to where he was going, you kept your eyes on his signature and started sprinting- thankful the island was so small. It wouldn't take you too long to catch up with him, and considering how he wasn't going toward the other villains, he'd probably found Nine.
Halfway to your destination, a giant, round version of Midoriya popped up in the sky. From it came a young girl's voice, "Somebody protect Deku! Please!"
Now that the alarm was sounded, you'd have to observe and leave the area quickly before you were spotted. Although it sounded like the heroes we would be a bit too busy to notice your presence.
By the time you got to the fight, it was nearly over. Clouds had rapidly gathered over the field Nine, Katsuki, and Midoriya were in, and lightning struck the two heroes before they could react.
"Oh shit!" Hiding in the tree line, you threw your arm out and absorbed some of the energy from the lightning strike. All of it would be too much, but you could at least soften the blow so they wouldn't either die or live with Lichtenberg figures for the rest of their lives.
Nine turned away from the pair, thinking they were finished and faced the kids once again. But Midoriya and Katsuki were stubborn and heroic, and they weakly grabbed onto Nine's ankles as if that would stop him.
Nine turned, and one of his force fields slammed them into the ground so hard they bounced back up into the air. Your mouth opened but no sound came out, your scream of horror lodged in your throat. Any one of Nine's attacks could have easily killed either one of them.
With the heroes dealt with, Nine looked to the boy again, but before he could even take another step forward he seemed to collapse in pain.
"Nine!" The woman with red hair ran out from over the hill and grabbed Nine's arm, speaking to him quietly. She straightened up and looked at the kids, her hair sharpening to deadly points, "It would be easier if you didn't struggle."
A flock of hundreds of crows formed a shield between the kids and the woman and Nine. Uraraka ran up from behind and used her Quirk on Bakugou and Midoriya so they could be taken away for medical attention. When the crows left, the kids were gone too.
Melting into the darkness provided by the trees, you retreated- taking the long way back to the hotel where you were sure no one would be. With villains on the island, all the civilians would be kept together so protecting them would be easier.
Pulling out your phone, you frowned when you realized you had no service. It was smart on Nine's part, but inconvenient. That meant no communication with the league... which meant no further orders from Tomura... what you did from that point on was up to you and Tomura's original vague orders - intervene if you had to or felt like it.
Gathering up your most important items - which was really only your phone and your binoculars - you took the rest down to the harbor where there were still several fires raging around the docks. They wouldn't spread beyond the sand, so they weren't important to the heroes. But they were the perfect way to get rid of any evidence of you being on the island. DNA from your brush, skin cells on the clothes, anything damning was thrown into one of the fires and burned beyond recognition. It was kind of sad. You liked the clothes you brought along.
From there, you located Nine and his team in the lighthouse near the beach and the heroes and civilians at the power plant.
With their leader out of commission, the villains wouldn't be making any new moves until he recovered, so you didn't have to worry about them for the time being. The heroes... Katsuki and Midoriya were terribly injured, so you decided you'd see if they were still alive.
The thought of the two of them succumbing to their injuries made you feel nauseous, so you shoved the thought aside and instead thought about what you were going to do. You'd keep the 1-A students alive. After everything they'd been through- all the league had put them through - they deserved this one favor from you. From there... you weren't exactly sure yet.
Hurrying across the island to the power plant, you climbed up the steep hillside, easily tracking down Midoriya and Bakugou's treatment room through their Quirk Cores. There were two other people in there with them, but not 1-A students.
Pushing some of your super strength Quirk into your legs, you leaped up the side of the building and shoved your fingers into the brick outside with a small burst of strength, wincing at the tremors of discomfort it caused. You'd taken to your new Quirk relatively well, but there was still much to learn.
Peeking inside the room, you sighed in relief at the sight of the two kids inside and no one else. Pacing your hands against the window, you quickly pulled enough energy out of them to knock them out.
Sliding open the window, you smoothly slipped inside the room, landing silently on the floor. Observing how everyone was laid out, you quickly came to the conclusion that the young boy had been healing Midoriya and Katsuki. Your eyes narrowed, and you knelt down in front of him.
He was so young, at most nine with his sister being around ten or eleven. Both of them were adorable, and something twisted at your heart at the thought of them suffering so much because of Nine. Nine was going to take the boys Quirk. Such a bright light would be snuffed out.
Let him take it, a dark, vindictive part of you whispered, Why not let him experience what you did? Take him to Nine and form a truce between your two groups. The boy will be okay.
The boy in question grumbled a bit, adjusting in his Quirk created sleep. Biting your lip, you sighed. The boy wouldn't be okay, because if he was anything like you then he'd go down the wrong path. And if he was like Midoriya he could get himself hurt. As far as you were concerned, there were no other passable Quirks out there.
"He doesn't deserve that," you brushed a piece of hair away from the boy's face. What if it was Eri in front of you? You'd never turn her in. You didn't know this boy as well, but he deserved the same chance to thrive.
"E-Energy?" A weak voice came from your left.
"Midoriya," you lowered your voice, turning to face the wide-eyed hero-in-training. You hadn't thought to take any energy from him and Katsuki since they needed it for healing and were already unconscious.
"Don't- don't hurt Katsuma," Midoriya struggled to sit up.
"Stop it, you'll hurt yourself," you placed a hand on his chest and pushed him back down, "I'm not here to snatch him, alright? I'm not working with Nine."
"Then why are you here?"
"To observe, captain's orders," you stood from your crouched position, "I won't hurt the kids or your class. It's not what I'm here for."
If possible, Midoriya's eyes got even wider. The entire class was in a vulnerable position, especially Midoriya and Katsuki, yet you - a well-known villain - had just promised to leave them all alone. Perhaps it would come back to bite you in the ass, but- choices and consequences and all that fun stuff you'd been learning.
"Sleep," you sucked out just enough energy to make him fall back unconscious. Quickly turning to Katsuki, you observed his sleeping face. He looked angry even when he was unconscious. It made you smile.
Walking back over to the window, you found your footholds and slid the glass pane shut. Putting your hand on the glass again, you gave Katsuma and his sister their energy back so he could keep healing the pair.
Well, (Y/n), you thought to yourself as you climbed down, Looks like your about to do another good deed. Let's just hope you don't get punished for this one.
