068. his sister's keeper
"And you're sure Elijah's dead?" Slater asked. "Beyond dead." Damon answered. "Trevor was a good man; he helped me with my dissertation on sexual deviance in the Baroque period. I was schooling for my Psych PhD." Slater said.
Natasha opened her mouth to ask a question, but Rose ended up answering if. "Slater's been in college since '74."
Slater explained, "When I was turned. I have 18 degrees, 3 master's and 4 PhDs." Damon frowned, "The point?" He asked, not wanting to sit and listen to this man inflate his own ego. Slater shrugged, "Exactly, I mean, what is the point? What should I be doing with my eternity? If you have an answer, please enlighten me."
"We need your help. If someone wanted to get in touch with Klaus, how would you hook him up?" Rose asked. "Craigslist." Slater answered. Natasha couldn't help but to laugh at this, believing he wasn't serious.
"Seriously. I respond to a personal ad to get sent to somebody who knows somebody who knows Elijah, who's dead and that's where my connection ends." Slater explained.

"Okay, now I'm leaving." Stefan said, getting to his feet. Caroline blurted, "Wait...!" Stefan shook his head, "No, no, no, Caroline, you have two seconds to come clean."
Lexa and Sienna frowned, not following. It definitely was clear now that Caroline was stalling.. but what exactly was she stalling for?
"What do you mean?" The Forbes asked. "I'd believe the whole innocent act a little bit better if I didn't know how good you were at providing a distraction on demand. Where is Elena?" Stefan asked. "I can't tell you."
"You can't tell me? Are you kidding me?" Stefan asked. "I'm sorry but I...I can't tell you." Caroline sighed.
Lexa now turned to Caroline. "You mean she isn't sick? She lied to me-" The Gilbert blurted before she frowned. "Care. Tell us where she is." She demanded. Stefan scoffed, "Caroline! Elena was kidnapped, she could have been killed and you're seriously not gonna tell me where she is?"
"She's not in any danger. I would not have let her put herself in danger." Caroline responded. "Put herself in danger where? What do you...?" Lexa asked. "She's with Damon, isn't she?" Stefan insisted. "Ew, no!"
"Then where...where is she? Listen, if you're my friend like you've been pretending to be all day, then you'll tell me where she is." Stefan ordered.
Caroline sighed. "Lexa, Stefan, I am your friend but I'm also Elena's friend and I'm sorry but I'm not going to tell you where she is." She insisted. Lexa frowned, before Sienna offered her hand to her girlfriend. The Gilbert took it, siphoning magic from the werewolf. "Fine. We're doing this my way now." She said.
With that, Lexa, Sienna and Stefan got to their feet and left, as Lexa was determined to do a locater spell.

Damon sighed, "Here's what I don't get: Elijah moved around during the day, which means the originals knew the secret of the day ring. Now why would Klaus want to lift the curse of the sun and the moon?" He asked. "To keep the werewolves from lifting it. If a vampire breaks the sun curse then the werewolves are stuck with the curse of the moon forever and vice versa." Slater explained.
"But werewolves are extinct." Rose stated as Natasha snorted, "Not quite. Ever heard of the Lockwoods?" She confessed. "Mystic Falls? God, I've got to visit this place. It sounds awesome." Slater boomed enthusiastically.
"Awesome doesn't even begin to describe it. Can we stop the curse from being broken at all?" Damon asked. "What do you mean?"
"Well, if we make the moonstone useless, would it stop the curse from being broken?" Natasha chirped. "Well, yeah, probably, but why would you want to do that?" Slater asked. "Tell me how."
"You think I'm gonna help you figure out how to do something that will piss off an original? And keeping them from walking in the sun?" Slater asked. "You want to walk in the sun? I can make that happen if you help us." The Salvatore demanded.
Suddenly, the window completely shattered, causing the sunlight to pierce the vampires skin. Rose and Slater screamed out in pain.
Natasha slipped off her leather jacket and threw it over Rose's head, "Cmon, to the carpark." The Petrova ordered, helping Rose out of the cafe while Damon looked for the culprit.
Natasha then carried Rose to the car. "You're gonna be okay." She said softly. "I know." Rose said, holding onto the Petrova.
"Who's behind that?" Damon asked, catching up to the girls. "I don't know. Where is Slater?" Rose asked. "Iowa by now. Who the hell knows?" The Salvatore huffed. "He's not behind this, he's a good guy, he wouldn't betray me."
"Who did it?" Damon asked. "It's Klaus, don't you understand? You don't know this man, we're dead, we're all dead." Rose cried, before burying her face into Natasha. Natasha rubbed Rose's back gently, before she looked up at Damon with a concerned expression.

Elena grabbed her bag and went to leave, but she stopped suddenly as she saw Stefan and Lexa approach her.
"Lena." Lexa spoke, sounding disappointed that she'd been lied to. "Stefan, Lexa... what are you doing here?" Elena asked. "We could ask you the same question." Stefan replied.
"Caroline told you guys." Elena sighed. Stefan shook his head, "No, she kept your secret but it didn't take long for me to figure out what was the important that you'd have to keep it from me." Elena sighed, "I knew that you'd stop me."
Lexa shook her head in frustration, "You know I wouldn't have stopped you. Idiot, I would have come with you! And protected you! Katherine is dangerous, trust me I know first hand." Alexia insisted. Elena frowned, "I don't need to be protected, Lexa!"
"Listen to me, whatever she said to you is a lie. Do not listen to her. She's a liar, Elena." Stefan insisted, as Elena looked to him now. "What if she isn't? You didn't hear what she said." Elena managed to see. "You don't have to worry, I'm not gonna let anything happen to you."
"That's the problem, you won't but you'll die trying- both of you will! How's that any better?" Elena asked, looking from Stefan to Lexa.
"There's nothing you can do, Stefan. I haven't even told you the best part of the story." Katherine's voice could be heard, as she approached the doorway of the tomb. Lexa swallowed thickly, before stepping in front of Elena. "Aw little Lexie, the protector. Don't forget that I beat you up, honey." Katherine spoke up. Lexa frowned, "That will never happen again, believe me." The siphoner hissed.
"Klaus killed my entire family, except for Tasha.. just to get back at us for running. Whatever you do to escape Klaus, he will get his vengeance on your friends, your family and anyone that you've ever loved." Katherine said, before looking from Stefan to the twins.
Stefan shook his head, "No, look at me. No, do not listen to her, okay?" Katherine laughed, "Always the protector but even you must realize that she's doomed. There's nothing you can do to stop it unless of course you have this." Katherine then showed him the moonstone.
"What?"
"Oh no, there it is. It's the ultimate lie, isn't it?" Stefan asked, as Lexa crossed her arms, "You spun this whole thing so that we would have to get the stone from you, didn't you?" She asked.
Katherine shook her head, "I didn't spin anything, Stefan. It's the truth." She said. "No, let me guess. You want to trade that stone for your freedom, you manipulative, psychotic bitch." Stefan growled, taking a step forward.
"My freedom? That's where you're wrong, Stefan. I don't want my freedom because when Klaus shows up to kill us all and he will, I'll be in the tomb, where no vampire will enter because they can't get out. I'll be the safest psychotic bitch in town." The Petrova insisted before retreating back into the tomb.

Natasha sighed, plonking herself on the couch as she took a drink from her glass of bourbon. Rose walked over, and Natasha pat the empty spot beside her, motioning for Rose to join her.
"I'm sorry about today. I didn't know that was gonna happen." Rose sighed. Natasha faced Rose, her expression softened, "I believe you." She replied.
"I wish we could save Elena. I know that you guys want to." Rose trailed off. Natasha shook her head, "I don't really care for Elena. She is whiny and annoying. But Lexa loves her.. and I sort of owe Lexa." Natasha confessed. Rose gave her a confused expression. "I left her to die by the hands of my sister. Luckily, her girlfriend saved her." The Petrova added.
"You know... Damon kind of reminds me of Trevor." Rose said. "Why? Why him?" Natasha asked. Rose shrugged, "Because he always talked a big game, he was always working on an angle but underneath it all, he was the best friend anyone could hope for."
Natasha smiled, before it faltered, "And where did that get him?" Rose frowned, "Dead and my loyalty to him almost got me dead too."
Natasha looked back up at Rose. "Damon is the best friend anyone could hope for. I love him more than anything.. he is like my brother." She said. "I don't... I don't want anything to happen to him." The Petrova sighed.
"If you want to survive, you need to not care about anyone." Rose admitted as Natasha shrugged, "I know. But its hard not to care about him. Ever since I met him, we were always there for eachother." She admitted, before taking another sip of her drink. "You know.. he was the first person I came out to as lesbian, and he made sure to protect me from any harm that could come to me from that information being known.. even though I could protect myself." She explained.
Rose smiled for a moment, before it fell. "It might just be time to turn the switch off on your emotions." She grinned, her face fairly close to Natasha's. The Petrova smirked back, "I will if you will." She said.
Natasha glanced down at Rose's lips, before leaning forward and placed her lips on them. Rose closed her eyes, returning the kiss.

Elena and Alexia were sitting on the porch, in silence. "Lena." Lexa spoke up before Elena cut her off, "I can't talk about it, Lexa-"
Alexia frowned, "You don't have to... just don't shut me out. Elena, please. I thought we decided not to shut eachother out anymore." She said. Elena turned to Lexa, her eyes filled with tears. "I wanted to know the truth and I got it. It's not just me that's in danger. It's Caroline and it's Tyler and Sienna and it's Bonnie and god even you! You're all part of breaking the curse." Elena blurted, as a tear rolled down her cheek.
"I can't blame anyone else anymore because it's not because Stefan came into town or because Stefan and I fell in love. That's not why everyone that I love is in danger. It's because of me, everything is because of me." The girl said before she broke down.
Lexa's expression softened, and she scooted closer before placing her arm around her twin. "It's okay.. it's going to be okay." The siphoner said softly, before kissing the top of Elena's head.

Natasha and Rose were curled up on a couch by the fireplace, under a blanket, both wearing minimal clothing. Natasha had an arm wrapped around Roses waist, and kept sliding her fingers up and down it, gently.
Rose glanced up at Natasha, "It's a lie, you know. There's no switch you can turn off. Sure when you're a newbie but after a couple of hundred years... you just have to pretend." She admitted. Natasha nodded, "I know. I'm pretty sure I recently saw the love of my life with another man. I want to turn it off, but instead I am pretending like I don't care." The Petrova insisted.
"Who was the lucky lady?" Rose asked as Natasha looked away for a moment, before locking eyes with Rose again. "Rebekah Mikealson."
The truth was, Rebekah was in a coffin, Natasha didn't know that. When she had gone to New Orleans to find her, she had found Marcel Gerald and Camille O'Connell in eachothers arms, and from afar it looked like Rebekah. Knowing the history between Rebekah and Marcel, Natasha didn't want to watch the scene she had witnessed, any longer and fled back to Mystic Falls.
Rose blinked in surprise, "I'm surprised you're still even alive. I've heard Klaus has killed a few of her significant others." She admitted. Natasha laughed awkwardly, "I know. We spent most of our time together away from Klaus, because I knew if I put one foot wrong, I would have my heart ripped out."
Rose opened her mouth to speak, but suddenly her phone rang. "Hello?" Rose answered. "Rose?" It was Slater. "Slater? Are you okay?" The vampire asked. "Yes, I took off, I'm sorry, I was frigging freaked." Slater answered. Rose sighed, "No, I'm sorry to involved you." There was a moment of silence before Slater said, "Look, I want no part in any of this but I did some digging."
"Okay, what did you find?"
"You can destroy the curse but you need the moonstone." Slater said, as Natasha's eyes widened in surprise. "How? What do you mean? I don't follow." Rose said. "Can your friend get the moonstone? You need it." She looked at Natasha, who nodded her head affirmatively. "Yes, she can get it. What next?"
"You need a witch. Get the moonstone, a witch should be able to figure out the rest. Good luck, Rose." The call ended, and Rose looked to Natasha. "Well. You have step two right here." She chirped, referring to herself, "Now we need the stone."
Rose grinned proudly, before she leant forward and kissed Natasha. Natasha returned the kiss before Rose pulled away, giving her a smile. "You're incredible." The vampire admitted. Natasha smiled brightly, "Tell me something I don't know." She said chipperly, before she leant forward to kiss Rose once again.
