"No, because why was that exactly two minutes and 32 seconds?"

Maggie smiled cheekily at the compliment. They noticed. She hadn't thought anyone would notice outside. It was just a little contest with herself. "Thank you, Sarah, for praising my precision."

The two girls had gone inside the house, looking for Maggie when they didn't see her on the porch. They were terrified, to say the least. The stairs cracked and they breathed out a fearful breath.

"Just... relax," Maggie told the blonde. "Breathe."

That's when they heard the shuffling and thumping from upstairs. It sounded like slow footsteps and a crane ( how fitting ) following along as support. Her heavy breathing came closer.

"Shit!" Sarah whispered. She kept a close eye on the stairs. Kiara started breathing loudly because of the anxiety. Maggie stood in front of her and put a hand over her mouth, using her other to put a finger over her own lips. Kiara nodded frantically, but Maggie kept her hand in place.

"It's— it's late, Leon," Mrs. Craine's raw voice rang from the other side of the room. "Too late." She said between coughs. She slowly came closer, to the point where she walked straight past them. Mrs. Crain couldn't see them, though. In fact, she couldn't see anything.

"I can hear you, Leon," Her voice grew full of anger. "I've been waiting all night!" She swung her crane in the direction of the three girls, missing their heads by only an inch.

The girls ran away deeper into the house. Mrs. Crain kept yelling into the air to this so–called Leon, who Maggie assumed was her husband. Kiara stopped at a closed off door. There was a lock, but she was determined to open it. Sarah ran into another room. But since Maggie could hear Mrs. Crain yelling, she knew she hadn't been caught. That was until she became silent.

Kiara and Maggie followed the sounds of metal on walls. In something what looked like a small library, Sarah was ducking from Mrs. Crain's attacks.

Kiara went towards Sarah to lead her out of the room while Maggie took the crane from the old woman. She was stronger than Maggie expected, but she was stronger. Mrs. Crain swung around with her arms in order to keep her crane. She yelled when Maggie got a hold of it and threw it on the ground further away. Then Kiara grabbed her hand and dragged her away. The three girls locked themselves up in the hallway.

Not long after the door started cracking. Something that resembled a fire poker came through the door as if it was nothing. "This way!" Sarah rushed to the other side of the room. "It goes underneath the house!"

Maggie half expected Mrs. Crain to stick her head through the door and say "Here's Johnny!" But she didn't wait to find out if she did. They took the stairs down, seeing only JJ and Pope. They were holding ropes that led into the tunnel. Maggie assumed John B was somewhere down there.

"Guys! Guys!" The three girls panicked.

"What's going on?" Pope asked frantically, he held the rope tightly.

"Mrs. Crain! She's up there!" Kie answered. They stopped once they were on the same level as the boys, catching their breaths. "She tried to kill us with a fire poker. We gotta get the fuck outta here."

Sarah leaned forward on her knees. "We locked her in the parlour, but we gotta go."

Pope and JJ didn't need anything else to understand the urgency of the matter. "Let's go. John B! Get back on, man!" JJ yelled down the well to John B. Everyone grabbed the rope and started pulling together. After all, the more people, the faster it goes.

They counted down and pulled, but something went wrong. Everyone fell down and let go of the rope. There was no weight. The Pogues all circled around the well, yelling for their friend.

John B wasn't visible in the well. It was too far down and too dark. But he yelled. "I found the gold!" His voice echoed so much his friends above couldn't hear him.

"What's he saying?" JJ looked at Maggie, casting his eyes away instantly again.

"JJ! Pope! Maggie! Kie!" John B's voice was clearer this time.

Though the Pogues received this yell in a very different way. They thought he was in danger. Kiara even went as far as drowning, and that he had to get out of there now.

"Hey, John B!" Pope yelled down the well. "Get back on the rope. We're gonna pull you back up, okay, buddy?"

Maggie stopped doing what she was doing when she realised their voices were getting louder. She tried to listen to the banging on the door, but wasn't any. Oh, shit.

There wasn't any banging on the door.

Did that mean Mrs. Crain had given up or... Maggie walked back slightly to the stairs, leaving her friends yelling behind her. Her eyes widened when she heard the footsteps coming from the stairs. Then they widened more when she saw the shotgun in the old woman's hands.

"Guys! Guys, guys, guys!" She rambled as she ran back to them. "She's here!"

There wasn't even any time for the Pogues to look up at her comment, or a shot rang through the air. Due to the shock the rope fell back down by a few inches. JJ reached out his hand to his friend, helping him back up.

Kiara and Sarah hid around the corner, Pope stayed behind by the well to help John B out and JJ pulled Maggie along behind a wall. Teo more gunshots rang in the direction Sarah and Kie were hiding.

Maggie let out a shriek she didn't know was in her. The blond in front of her put a finger over her lips. He looked into her eyes, trying to silently calm her down. His head shot around the corner, visibly relaxing when he saw John B coming out of the well unharmed.

Maggie ran away from JJ back to the well. "Come on, B!" She pulled John B up by his arms. John B scraped himself off the floor, getting out of the cellar as fast as he could. Another shot went off.

John B was off and Maggie was left in the cellar to find the exit. She hadn't the slightest clue where the exit was. Every side was as dark as the other. She felt a large hand wrap around her bicep, pulling her along through the junk. More bullets flew through the air.

Maggie saw nothing, but she recognised the boy by touch alone. JJ's touch was gentle, even when he was stressing. She was outside before she knew it. The rest of the Pogues were in the Twinkie, encouraging them to get in as fast as they could. The car was already driving away. Even after all the Pogues were outside, the old woman kept shooting. Dumb bitch.

"Why are we always getting shot at?" Pope yelled frantically. JJ grabbed Maggie by her waist with one arm and put her in the car before swinging himself in by the roof.

That was when Maggie saw just how dirty the brunet actually was. He was covered in mud, head to toe. Everyone asked everyone if they were shot. "I think I'd know if I was shot, right?" Kie asked herself more than anyone. Maggie laughed.

"You look... disgusting." Pope looked back from the driver's seat.

"God, you smell like ass." Kie added, a disgusted expression on her face.

Sarah leaned her head back, Maggie doing the same. "What the hell just happened?" The blonde breathed out.

"I don't know." Maggie breathed out as well.

"All time Pogue Hall of Fame, baby!" JJ pumped his fist in the air of excitement, like he hadn't just been almost killed.

"Hell yeah," Kie slapped JJ's shoulder. "That bitch is possessed."

"That bitch can't aim." Sarah added, laughing.

Sarah saying that made Maggie look down. The bitch could most definitely aim. In her arm was a big wound that was dripping blood. The bullet was still inside, and Maggie knew it would have to be the first thing she'd have to do when she got back.

She laughed wryly. "Suppose she can." The Pogues' confusion meant nothing to her. As they saw what she was talking about, Maggie ripped a piece of cloth from her shirt.

"Oh, my God! Are you okay?" Sarah yelled out. She leaned forward.

Maggie took the piece of cloth to wrap her arm up above the wound, so the bleeding would decrease. She took the cloth in her mouth to tighten it. With the piece in her mouth, she spoke. "Oh, yeah— never better."

JJ shuffled over to her side, checking out her wound. "Shit, that looks really bad," He made her look at him. "You sure you're okay. D— do we need to call a doctor, or something?"

"I'm good," JJ cupped her cheeks. It almost felt like it used to be, the way they touched and cared for one another. Maggie's eyes shifted to something in John B's hand. "What you got, muddy boy?" She tried to change the subject.

He wiped away the mud with his finger, a shiny golden bar appearing under it. "No, you didn't!" Sarah was excited again.

"We did it, baby!" John B screamed. And then everyone screamed. Even Maggie, her attention going to the gold, not the bullet. Even JJ, though his attention was still on the girl he so badly wanted to protect from harm. The shot wound was only proof that he was no good at his job.

And that she didn't want to be saved.
