𝒙. don't call me kid
"Hey," John B hung out of the Twinkie's window to talk to the two girls getting out. "Don't worry. You got this."
Kiara pointed at the two arguing boys in the back of the van. "It's not me I'm worried about."
"Good luck." Maggie wiggled her eyebrows.
They turned around and walked to the gate where a security guard sat inside the small building. Kie waved and tried getting the security's attention. "Hello? Excuse me?"
She caught the guard's attention. He came out of his room and stood on the other side of the fence. "Can I help you?" He asked.
"Hi! Um, I actually have a flat tire. I was wondering if maybe you could help me out?" Kiara lied, but the guard only had eyes for Maggie. She knew how to use that to their advantage, so she looked up through her lashes.
The man smiled at the sight. "Yeah."
He walked back. Kiara and Maggie fist bumped each other. "It's too easy." Kie muttered.
"I know right," Maggie chuckled. "Men are all the same."
The man came back with the stuff he'd need to fix the tire and returned. Kiara showed him the way to the car while Maggie walked behind them slowly. Kie leaned against the car. "It's just this one right here. I mean, it must've been a slow leak or something."
"Been sitting in the yard too long?" The guard asked.
"Yeah."
"Yeah, I— I got this." He crouched down next to the tire and Kie thanked him.
Maggie decided to add to that. "You must be a really strong man, huh?" she smirked and leaned against the car opposite of Kie.
"South?" He asked, referring to Maggie's accent.
"Midlands," She saw the guard look up. "Got it?"
He looked up a few minutes later again, after hearing the faint barks of a dog. "Do you hear that?"
Maggie and Kie definitely heard that, but they were never to admit that. They answered at the same time. "Hear what?"
"Oh, Tebow's got somethin'." The guard stood up, the two girls giving each other a look.
"It's probably just a raccoon, maybe. You know?" Kiara made up quickly. "Nothin' to worry about."
"Yeah."
Kiara sneaked around the car, taking the pin out of her hair. The guard turned around, seeing she was gone and asked Maggie where her friend'd gone. He didn't await her answer, stepping towards the sounds of a hissing tire.
"What are you doing?" He asked her perplexed.
Maggie heard Kiara casually reply. "This one looks a little low too."
This time, he didn't believe it anymore. The guard ran towards the barking dog, Maggie and Kie ran the other way, to their own car. Kie got in the driver's seat, Maggie in the passenger's seat.
All they could do now was hope the Pogues would pull it off.
The Pogues pulled it off. How could they not.
Maggie was surprised each time they succeeded in something that should've gotten them caught way before. It was dark when they came back to the wreck.
"Stealing drones makes you hungry." Kie got out of the back of the van.
"What I would do to a beer and shrimp and grits right now." JJ added.
Maggie got out of the passenger's seat. JJ stopped to walk next to her. "It would not be pretty." Pope referred to JJ's comment.
They went inside the Wreck, greeting Mike Carrera at the counter. The Pogues walked along to the back while Kiara made more conversation with her dad. He playfully winked at Maggie as he hugged his daughter, she returned the greeting with a wave.
Kie talked with her dad, asking him to bring her and her friends free food. For a minute, Maggie thought she wouldn't succeed, but then she turned around and said. "Sit down."
"Do I help?" Maggie asked before sitting down. She worked in the restaurant as well, so if Kiara would say yes, she wouldn't find it weird.
"No. It'll just take a sec."
Soon, Kiara and her dad both came back with plates of food. Maggie thought the boys could resemble pigs when they were eating, but she didn't mention anything. They were simply hungry.
When one of Kie's favourite songs came on the radio, she started dancing and dared John B to dance with her. John B pointed at himself, not sure she actually meant him.
JJ saw the opportunity and stood up swiftly, forcing Maggie up as well. He spun her around, then brought her back in. JJ's eyes were on nothing but the brunette in front of him.
He held her close by the arm on her lower back, swaying a little. JJ swirled Maggie around, causing her eye to fall on Pope, staring at Kiara and John B. He looked so lonely just sitting there.
She reached out her hand, taking his hand and pulling him up. JJ had to silently curse her for being such a good friend to him, because this meant their moment was over.
Maggie put her hand over both the boys their shoulders, pulling them down slightly by their heads because they were taller. She loved her buddies.
She just wished she'd waited a little while. Stretched out her moment with JJ.
The next morning came way too soon. Maggie could barely remember anything between dinner and the morning after. They'd gone to the dock with the drone and installed it on the side of Maggie's boat. However, she mentioned it would not be wise to actually go out on the water today, seeing the weather.
She didn't mind, though, she would not want to be caught on the ocean in a storm. Scrap that, she'd not want to be caught outside in a storm. They'd have to wait another day.
JJ would help Pope with bringing his dad's groceries to Figure Eight. John B was going to check out more about the drone and Kiara had to work in the restaurant. So Maggie had to figure something out for herself to do.
She was walking through Figure Eight. She had about two boring hours to kill before they'd meet up to surf. She passed the Cameron house, as usual, on her way to the Carrera residence. However, there was a new car on the driveway.
The car wasn't unfamiliar, but there's millions of copies of the same car, right? Yeah. Maggie stopped in her tracks to check the license plate on the Mitsubishi.
Fuck, fuck, fuck, fuck.
It was the same license plate. She pinched her skin to make sure she wasn't having a nightmare. He'd found her. He'd found her and now she'd have to go back to that... that place.
"You like the car?" The voice with the German accent spoke from behind the car. "I had the leather renewed."
He neared, but Maggie took steps back as he came forward. She held out her hands. "Stay back." She warned.
"You were gone all of a sudden. I didn't even get to say goodbye." He smiled. The man walked forward, grabbing Maggie's hands and putting them back down.
Maggie couldn't resist. Her frightened expression made her turn her head away from the man in front of her. She still couldn't believe he really was here, in the OBX.
"Why are you here, Berger?" She got to the point. Maggie wanted to get out of there as soon as possible, she wanted to ignored Daniel so badly that it became impossible.
Daniel smiled wider, putting a strand of her brown hair behind her ear. "I got a deal," He whispered in her ear, then leaned back again. "The Cameron's offered me this huge deal to do with the Royal Merchant. Honestly, seeing you here, baby, is just a big pro."
Maggie didn't reply. Daniel leaned down to get his face on the same height as her's. He made her look at him. "What's wrong? Are you not happy to see me? After all I did for you?"
A tear rolled down Maggie's cheek. "You never did anything for me."
"Look around you, Magnolia!" Daniel shouted all of a sudden, holding his arms out to show the space around them. "You know everything you know, because of me. You'd have been nothing if it weren't for me," He took her hands in his hands. "I gave you these. They're a gift. Do not waste that."
From the corner of her eye, Maggie could see Ward Cameron walking out of his front door. He seemed to be looking around him, searching for something — or someone. Daniel saw him as well, and stepped back a few steps.
He turned his head, giving Ward a big smile and a pleasant wave. Ward returned the wave, then looked slightly confused to see a Pogue, out of everyone, talking to him.
"Looks like our conversation has to be cut short," Daniel turned back to Maggie. "But we'll catch up."
He walked back to the door. He then stopped in his tracks, and out if his mouth came an excruciating sentence. A sentence that would stay in Maggie's mind forever. He opened his mouth and said,
"It's good to see you're not your dad."
that last scene gave me so much stress it single handedly gave me a writer's block. i might change it in the future but for now its okay.
